I know he has faced his fair share of criticism over the years and I myself have been guilty of questioning some decisions he's made. However, the good that Steve Jewell has done as Corbin coach far outweighs the bad. I want to thank him for the past 15 years as a head coach, 10 years as an assistant, and his time as a player.
Coach Jewell has always represented the Redhound nation with the utmost class and dignity. Nobody is a better example of Redhound Pride like Steve Jewell. While some may not like his coaching style or stern discipline, he has always had the kids' best interest at heart. Not only was he a fine coach, he is one of the best teachers in the entire state of Kentucky. He knows life goes further than football. For the 141-55 record, I want to say thank you, Coach Jewell. You will always be a staple in Redhound history.

Classy post. I don't agree 100% with what you said but I do appreciate his allegiance and pride for Redhound nation. He will make a very good asst principal. Best of luck Mr Jewell!

Coach Jewell has dedicated a lot of his time to the program and sacrificed more than most of us could imagine. Like all people and coaches he has his flaws. As a player I have some great memories and not so great ones. His knowledge of the game was so high I think at times he lost focus on the fun of the game. You cant blame him for trying to win though. One of the best football minds ive ever been around. I thank him for his time and dedication and teaching me what being a Redhound meant.

I think Jewells biggest downfall was himself. He really held himself back by not scheduling games he should have and not taking that next step. Corbin should have made it to the title game a lot more than once over the span of the last 15 years. Being in maybe the worst district in the state was a big part of his success, but there is no doubt he won his fair share of ball games.
Something like a 150-40, or somewhere around there. I think he was right around a 750 winning percentage, and only one losing season in his tenure, which was 2012, as well as going a decade without ever losing a district game was pretty good, no matter how strong or weak the district was.

I never cared much for Jewell as a coach.
He had so many opportunities to take Corbin to the next level and just didn't do it.
Great guy and teacher though, and he got the job rightfully so.
I think Corbin will be fine.

Very classy post. Many schools would have been happy with the sucess Steve had at Corbin. I am going to say 2 years from now they will wish he was back on the sidelines!!!

Football is a crazy time consuming sport. Most coaches work 7 days a week during football season for very little money.

It's pretty easy for us fans to show up on Friday night, then Saturday talk about what we would have done differently when things don't work out the way we wanted them to.:argue:

As I said, I've had my fair share of criticisms but I will give credit where credit is due. You can't help the district that you are placed in. To not lose a district game for a decade and only lose 55 games in 15 seasons is about as impressive as it gets. My hat goes off to Coach Jewell.
I've dabled in coaching myself and you certainly have a lot to deal with. I can only imagine the pressure from the inside out at a job such as Corbin. I view this similar to Tubby Smith's time at UK. If you look at the big picture, it was a great time but there are a few questionable things that could've made it better. I think we should take the time to appreciate what Coach Jewell has given even if we didn't always agree with his philosophies. It was a perfect time to ride off into the sunset and he's been rewarded with a great position where he can remain close to the program.

this post speaks for it's self only 9 people took the time to even comment and not all of them even supported his coaching, this should show what the community really thought of him as a coach. the pink issue, losing good kids to other schools or not even playing, having 2 state middle school championship teams and not winning a district since moving to 3a and with Lexington Catholic and other top teams entering 3a in the new realignment he knew it was time to get out of dodge cause it wasn't going to get any better.
