I came across this video on youtube and it reminds me of how great this team was. It's a great video about what mountain football means to so many of us. This is a great group of young men who loved to play the game and was on a mission. They were fun to watch

For some reason you will have to watch it from a stationary computer.

Some good Bell, rock, and Whitley teams. Too bad they ran into a semi truck named highlands

Awesome video. Been a while since I've seen this.
Just to think, Gerad Parker set the National Career Receiving record playing WR in a Wishbone Belly Offense.

Very good Lawrence County team... remember them dismantling a bit of a down Belfry team at Death Valley. One of the best offenses to come out of EKY in some time. Very good running game and an accurate QB who knew to simply get the ball in Gerard Parker's hands and watch him work.
That roster had a a great array of talent. Off the top of my head (I could be off) Hostetter went to Tennessee, Dante went to Miami (OH), West went to Marshall, Parker to UK, and I believe the QB went to WKU.
Maybe not the best rushing offense we have seen in the mountains, but a darn good one and with Parker the had an offense that was nearly unstoppable...Highlands just was a buzzsaw

The QB in 96 and 97 went to WKU, that was Jason Michael. He was the QB of the WKU 2002 1-AA Natty Champ team.
The QB in this film was Alan Short, who took over in the 98 and 99 seasons. Alan is currently the OC at Lawrence County and had a very good career at Campbellsville University starting at QB 2-3 years in his time there on some very good teams.

Who is now offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.

Not only the best there was but not seen a Rushing Offense to come close since. And not like one we will see for quite some time.

I remember watching this Lawrence County team come over to Perry Central and they dropped 77 points on us. Very potent offense, this was a fun team to watch, but not to play.

they were one of the most awesome offensive teams I've seen play and fun to watch for sure. too bad their defense wasn't quite as good.

I watched about 2 1/2 minutes, and I just wanted to make a note that both LC, and whoever is rocking "W" helmets like Wisconsin's, uniforms look incredible. That looks so much better than that crap where teams take the field looking like the grill of a Chevy or a damn color wheel. Simple, rugged, tough looking uniforms... I love it.
And all their freaking socks/shoes match and don't have super heroes on them too!

lol Awesome post.
However, you must not have noticed Whitley's pants in that video. Let me see if I can explain them, but I remember Whitley County, Lincoln County, North Hardin and Meade County around that time who all had the same pants.
But...one side of the pants had an oversized 2-3 color stripe that basically wrapped around one side from mid quad to mid hamstring, then down to the bottom and wrapped across both knee pad areas (the other side of the pant was solid except for the knee pad).
Different day and time. Like every generation, what youth see on TV, they want to be..sports or any other form of entertainment. Believe it or not, uniform looks have a lot to do in this day in age with some kids coming out or not.
Also...Lawrence County had what some considered and still would consider a little tacky...but, many of them wore the infamous Dr. Zeuss socks. Half their team had red face masks and half of them had black. lol Classic.
