I am writing this to set the record straight regarding Jerry Lucas and the rumors regarding him leaving Collins for Raceland or Russell. Coach Lucas has never applied nor did he intend to apply for the Russell job. He was contacted by me regarding the Raceland job after Coach Maynard resigned. Even though he slept on the opportunity to coach at Raceland, he decided that he was happy where he is and was staying at Collins. So, just for the record, I am the only person that Jerry spoke to and he declined to apply for Raceland. Also, he NEVER applied for the Russell position and he was never offended that Coach Maynard was Russell's number 1 choice. The Lucas family would like the record straight that he has never applied for another job and is happy at MLC. Plus, even though I called him and asked him to apply for Raceland's position, I am not in a position to hire anyone.

I know for a fact that the Lucas are not out hunting for a job. He still has work to do at Collins HS. We want more championships. With the results he has achieved at Collins, I can't blame anyone not to come calling but I know coach Lucas is not going to go calling.
