Southwestern blows out Pulaski
#1
It's time to clean house at PC, uncle ball was bad, daddy ball is worse. This is the worst coaching staff in the 12th region possibly the state.
#2
last year for coach gover I am afraid. I was told this by several pretty good sources last night. I know he was asked to resign last year and he wouldnt. I aint sure what exactly happened to why they just didnt fire him. Some kids have quit the team this year as well
#3
Big w
Congrats
#4
Who quit? Could they be helping? Just curious
#5
Congrats!
#6
One that quit was a starter and another that quit was usually 6th or 7th man off the bench...both players brought a lot of hustle and energy to the game! This program is a joke and has been for the past 4 years! DEFINITELY TIME FOR A CHANGE! Way too much of a family affair!
#7
As a former player under coach Gover I agree he's defiantly gotta go. He needs to go he doesn't have any respect for his players and the players have no respect for him. The team this year has no team chemistry. I would LOVE to see the Fraley clan return to PC next year!

They didn't fire him because his mother-in-law made political threats to the superintendent and the family had support from Lake Cumberland Shell. Politics at it's finest. These are facts.

I heard the same thing jim. I've heard from sources that he's on his way out.
#10
Seems to me like all the teams in somerset are always having problems, changing around a lot. What's the deal anyway
#11
Way to go Warriors. Nothing like going into PC and thumping them Maroons. Two teams going in opposite directions.
#12
Im just not seeing it as being the coaches fault. I see the kids all playing hard for him and he is a good x and o coach. Sometimes the talents just not there. They lost one of the best point guards in the state last year who carried them to alot of wins and they lost a few other decent players as well. Hard to replace that.Give it some time Maroon nation!
#13
It goes alot deeper than that woody hayes. trouble been brewing for a long time
#14
PC may have had alot of talent over the last 4 years but what did that get them, beat in the first round of the region every year. The coaching staff is terrible and has to take the blame for that when you have talent. PC teams are never prepared for the big games, they beat the teams they should and never win anything close! It was bad the first time Gover was coach at PC he never won anything and had a lot of talent. Round 2 wasnt any better. Time for a CHANGE. Politics or not its TIME FOR A CHANGE! The players deserve better than that!
#15
I could not imagine Pulaski basketball without the Govers and all their contributions both on and off the court. I thought they had been successful but then again.. I am a football fan!
#16
How much time does he need woody hayes? He lost 1st round region 2 years in a row with the best team in region. All he can do is win district. Defiantly time for a change at pulaski county.

Not so fast. SW is just a top team this year while Pulaski has lost some nice talent from prev years.

Let's also not forget that these football players you speak up didn't start until December. Never got in basketball mode after coming off the best year in school history.

Overall, just a tough year with less talent then usual and very late start. Pulaski came into the year relying on a heavy dose of football players. A few injuries here and there and a few quitting has left them short handed.

On another note. What a poor thread.
#18
I dont know if it had anything to do with it or not but pulaski started off 5-0 without the football players ready to go. Been down hill ever since for the most part. not get along maybe? idk

Pulaski will be fine come tourney time.

if it's a poor thread don't post or read. I have talked with several former players, none of them like the head coach or his brother, they are there to promote their own, period. They started their nephew as a freshmen at point guard over the Eastham kid who at the time was much better. Round 2, he's starting his son as a freshmen at point guard over Riley Hall who is one of the top point guards in the region.
#21
You got it jim. Probably the truest post on the thread.
#22
I think it worked out pretty good Jim. The point guard which you speak of turned out to be the school's all-time leading scorer. Not a bad coaches decision if you ask me.
#23
I remember that Gover kid from when my son played basketball....I guess he is the "nephew" you are talking about. As I remember, he could shoot the lights out. You couldn't leave him unguarded at all or he would smoke you from three point range. He was sort of little when he was a freshman compared to everyone else, but, he could play ball. I lost track of him when my son quit playing basketball after his freshman year. Did he go to college and play basketball?
#24
Every kid deserves to play for
a state championship but fact of the matter is not too many coaches in the state can brag about having won a state championship. Its just not that easy. Have to have the right mix of talent chemistry and a little luck along the way. Everyone thought the Broncos would walk away with the Superbowl didn't they? Just sayin sometimes the best team doesn't always get the prize.
#25
All I can say it congrats to SW their program is going to be a regional contender for the next several years. As for PC their program is about to hit rock bottom because for a 5A school there sure is a lot of talent walking the halls because they don't want to play daddy/uncle ball. It's a shame the amount of players that have quit and transferred to get away from pc's program. And woody Hayes you are correct about winning a state title but it has to start with the coaches. I have watched a lot of teams that didn't have a lot of talent win a lot of games simply because the coaching staff gets the most out of the kids they have. Have to say that is definitely not the case at PC. That is unless your last name is Gover.
#26
Well woody I was actually on the team with Taylor and kody and there was team chemistry but Al Gover would always try to break it up. I don't believe I've ever heard the man say anything positive to his players or try to get you up for a game, never. I gaurntee if you ask half of his past players to his current players if they like the man you will get a NO. And if your players don't like you then they won't play as hard as they should and that's what hurt Taylor, Kody, and Goins. Your right about luck you do need some to win a state championship or region but bad luck don't strike twice especially in the first round.
#27
If you're a player and choose not to play your hardest because you don't like the coach, you should quit the game. Period. You're not in it for the right reasons, in any sport. That's a very selfish comment to make. THAT would be your team chemistry killer.

I couldn't care less about Coach Gover staying or going. However, I do know that Taylor Gover was the ONLY one on that team that would put the ball in the basket at will on offense AND play lock-down defense. The other players were very 1-dimensional, but were great players at what they did. They would either put their focus on being great scorers on offense while mediocre on defense or playing great on defense while having a mediocre game on offense most of the time. The effort exerted by Gover as a player was never questioned in my mind game in and game out, but it was questioned with some of the others. I don't buy the "uncle-ball" (or daddy-ball) excuses some like to throw out because they're among the best 5-8 players to put on the floor.
#28
Wildcat 18 you obviously haven't consistently watched PC basketball! And you obviously have no clue how deep the problems run at PC. Like I said before when you have tons of talent walking the halls and kids that transfer because of who the coaches are there are problems!

First off, Hall is a football player. They didn't begin until the season had already started.. That's a tough spot for a coach, tough to have Hall out there running the team when he's been in limited action.

Secondly, I don't see Hall as a natural point, more of a two guard. Gover is a nice player who should and needs to be on the court.

I will listen to your opinion but put no value on it. You knowledge goes to middle school only. If you think gover was a better defender than Johnson, Gains, or Burton you went to even fewer games than I thought. If you know so much PC basketball, can you tell me how many players have left the program in the last 5 years? I can, this year alone 8 kids that were on the team in June are now gone, and it's that way every year. At some point some of you have to realize there is a problem. Have you had any discussions with former players or players playing now? I have, there is only so much negativity a kid can take, they need some positive every now and then. I feel silly telling you this with all your coaching experience. Bottom line is PC needs a new coach, I've seen it for 9 years now that's 8 to many.
