Congrats to all you young men. Nothing better than playing the game you love and getting a free education.

Good luck to you all.

Correct. I didn't want to be the one to rain on parades, bc getting to play college football at any level is truly something to be proud of.

Morehead being NCAA 1-AA Non Scholarship is the same as D2, NAIA, D3. Matter of fact, some of our local NAIA schools play these NCAA non scholarship and compete/beat them on a regular basis.

Very big congrats to these kids. Be proud wherever you go.

As others have said, playing football at Morehead (NON scholarship) is like NAIA. Actually less since NAIA gives money. Even D-II gives athletic money.

NAIA Pikeville beat "D-I" Morehead in football last season, 13-10. In basketball, that's HUGE news any time a D-I school gets beat by a D-II, D-III or NAIA program.

For Morehead football, eh. They don't give scholarships. They're gonna get beat by teams like that.

In 2013, Morehead gave up at LEAST 42 points to EVERY "D-I" team it played.

Morehead basketball (full rides, occasionally makes the Big Dance) and Morehead football are worlds apart although they are on the same campus.

That being said, CONGRATS to any kid continuing to following his dream. My former boss is a Morehead grad and he enjoyed his time there. I've known several athletes who have played sports there and liked it.

Not surprised at all. That was a really good football team. I actually would have thought UK would have snagged one of those WKU guys....I don't think the 'Cats are into good football players though.

I think that struggling schools should really study what Collins has done. From being a new school to beating Highlands in the State Championship is a wild journey. Was Collins HC coach of the year?

No he was not.

Most people here are really in the dark. Morehead is d 1 and give a lot of aid to,the better players they recruit. Don't know how pikeville beat them but a season before MSN Beat KSU by a hundred. Year before last if not for a call that MSU would have beat EKU Dont disrespect Morehead as they have great coaches and better facilities than most know
Cksportsfan you are very wrong and not telling the truth. The pioneer league is tough and and just remember. Aid is aid and the best players get that at MSU.

"The 2013 season marks the 21st year for the Pioneer Football League – the nation’s only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference."
" From the league’s inception it has been a proponent of the creation of a non-scholarship football classification within Division I"

Do Morehead football players still get aid? Yes.
But so do Lindsey, Campbellsville, Union, Cumberlands, Georgetown players.

I was wrong. Morehead gave up 42 points (or more) to the last five D-I schools it played in 2013. Not every one. I apologize. Looked at scores wrong.

2013: 3-9 (lost to I-AA EKU 56-24)
2012: 4-7 (lost to EKU 24-17)
2011: 3-8 (did NOT play EKU)
2010: 5-6 (did not play EKU)
2009: 2-8? (does not have score of season-ending Valpo game listed)

As far as beating KSU the year before by a hundred? Morehead played Kentucky Christian in 2011 (NOT 2012) and beat them 67-0. Of course KCU is still a relatively new program and not D-I at all. I think low-level NAIA.

Morehead has NOT played KSU (Kentucky State) recently.

So who's not telling the truth?

Morehead is division 1 in basketball and baseball. Football is a different animal and they are far from D1. It takes nothing away from the kids that signed at Morehead and they should be very proud of the fact that they can continue to play the game of football at the college level. The percentage of kids who play at the college level are few and far between but playing at the D1 level is even greater.

Morehead is a member of Div. 1 FCS like Murray State and Eastern Kentucky. the conference they play in is a non scholarship conference but the conference competes for the Div. 1 FCS National Championship
Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky are members of Div. 1 BCS

you can google division 1 college football teams. If they are not on the list they are not d1. Reguardless of scholarship money, i am not sure what determines the difference. Basketball track and other sports have their own standards for determination

Nothing against any kid that wants to try it at the next level and congrats to any that make it anywhere. That being said -- it might be wise to temper the D-1 chest beating.

MSU is D-1 in name only. MSU is arguably the worst NCAA "D-1" football program in the nation. MSU decided to pull all of the scolly money out of football run it on a shoestring and play in a league with other schools that say they do not give scholarships. Players get financial aid, but it is not called a football scholarship.

Maybe Morehead is going to turn things around. But if an NCAA school is getting whupped by an average NAIA program 1/10th its size, that makes me wonder what else is going on at that NCAA school in other areas. Are they also pretending about the quality of their education. If that's the best effort they can put on the field, then why bother? Just mothball the program, save the money, and play intramural flag football.

The kids that will be playing at Morehead St Division 1-AA worked just as hard as any D1 commit and they deserve this time to be commended for the hard work and effort due them. But let the commentary stand corrected (Haters and Naysayers) will always come out of the woodwork to try to belittle the accomplishments of others ..its just the nature of the human being...what did YOU do and what NAIA program did you star for and what championship rings do YOU wear? SMH congrats to the kids that made it period. At ANY COLLEGE LEVEL....continue with your dreams!!.. anything else said is just jealousy and envy..with your Cain and Able comments!!

Morehead State is a Division 1 FCS program. They are non scholarship but that does not change the fact they are Division 1 FCS. The winner of the Pioneer Football League gets an automatic bid to the Division 1 FCS playoffs as of last year. The same playoffs as Appalachian State, EKU, etc. They are a Division 1 program.

Look, no one should belittle these accomplishments. Congrats to the kids.

But please understand that Appy State and EKU are what was formerly known as Div. 1-AA. Not Division 1.

I'm not trying to usurp what these kids have earned but likewise some here should not be disingenuous and say these are D-1 kids just as signees to a Big 10, SEC,ACC school are.

That said, congrats to anyone who pursues athletic dreams beyond High School.

You are absolutely wrong. There are two subdivisions of Division 1. One is the Football Bowl Subdivision in which the BCS conferences play. The other is the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly 1AA). They are both Division 1 but each is a subdivision. That's why itscalled Division 1 FCS.
#26
All right lets deal in some facts.
D1 FBS schools give 85 scholarships
D1 FCS schools give 63 scholarships

NCAA 2 and NAIA have some full scholarships and partials AND grants/loans

NCAA3 and D1 pioneer schools have grants and loans

Congrats to all Collins kids playing college football. So far they have 2 who are recieving D1 scholarships.

They beat the winningest program of Kentucky in the state title in their 5th? year of existence. Something was done the right way all year that 60+ year programs have never done.
