I agree with baseball dad..I would think Estill would be higher than 10th. They have a good coach and bring back some good talent.

Very true, but, they lost some good expierenced players. They also lost their top rebounders. We'll have to see though.

Ill agree with JBS being....1 they have proven something...why is everone so high on Powell? What have they done...? I saw them lay this summer and they didnt look very good at all.....id say PCC # 2 and Lee # 3....rest of teams filling out top ten id say be a toss up.
09-21-2006, 03:03 PM
I would say JBS #1 because they did return everyone. PCC and Lee will be good and be in the top 4 but how can anyone not list Hazard at least #2. They got back the best player in the 14th in Justin Hicks, the best defender in the 14th in Matt Williams, and the best rebounder and intimidator in Michael Campbell. They have a great bunch of young kids and had a wonderful summer. To least teams like LCC and Powell in front of any 4 of these teams in a joke and unless JBS can be the team everyone is expecting them to be look for the regional crown to come back to the city of Hazard either by Hazard or PCC. You may not like it but that is just the way it is.

When you seen them play this summer they didnt even have all of their players do to the baseball team winning the 14th region championship. They had 5 players out 3 of which are starters. Thats why they didnt look very good. They have improved alot since the summer ended.

One player cant win games. He might be a great player but thats just one player. He cant do it all himself.

Good4Three Wrote:One player cant win games. He might be a great player but thats just one player. He cant do it all himself.Who said anything about only having one player? I mentioned 3 from Hazard, JBS has 5, Perry has a boatload. Powell just has a bunch of seniors who couldn't beat anyone as juniors and they won't beat anyone as seniors either. The 3 teams mentioned above are all better than they were a year ago which and Powell could do nothing with them last year with the same kids. Let this group of players do something before you start mentioning them in the upper class of the 14th. The others mentioned are all battle tested and can stake claim to some sort of accomplishment whereas these young men from Powell have done nothing.

Why dont u calm down bud, lets just wait and let the records do the talkin later on this year.

i agree with 56th batboi, powell will show all of you up who thinks that they dont have a chance. They have improved and have shown alot of commitment over the summer and they have a new coach behind them as well. There not going to let there senior year slip away from them....enough said.

Yea :wenumber1

i agree with the 8-ball...and a new coach while im not saying he isnt a good coach I dount very seriously that he will get out of them what two expierenced coaches in Coldiron and Baker couldnt. They were very average last year and will be the same this year...how in the world do they let it get to the point were they have that many seniors....sounds like some cuts need to be made to me
09-22-2006, 12:07 AM
we have that many seniors because every single one of them get out there and work for there spot on the team

They trust Lively more than they did Coldiron and Baker. They were average last year because they didnt have that much expierence, and some games against very good teams they were up in the 4th quarter by 15 or more points but couldnt hold on to win because lack of expierence. If cuts were neccesary then they should have cut some players their freshman year instead of their senior year.

I think 8 ball knows Powell County will be good this year. He probably plays for some no good team and cant stand it because Powell and every single player on the team is better than him.
09-22-2006, 05:26 PM
I think that it wasnt all the inexperence even though that that probally had some to do with it, but the coach had a major role in the recodrs last year for powell. now having a coach that they respect and know that he respects him, things will start to stand out. But i agree with Good4Three when it come to having so many seniors, they should have been cut there freshman year, now theyve earned there spot on the team. no one is givin a spot with out some hard work and dedication.

I am glad the Powell fans are so excited about their team this year. I hope you find some happiness in your season. I wish I could still play ball. That is a funny one. Coach Lively will do you good job and you will love his excitement but a coach is only as good as his talent. Everyone knows that and having said that, Powell will do good to ever crack the Top 8 in the region at anytime. There are 4 teams in the 54th, 2 in the 53rd, and then there is Lee. All are better than Powell and maybe even a couple more. Enjoy the pre-season. You may not be all that "giddy" once the Pirates take the floor.
09-25-2006, 02:00 PM
There is no doubt in my mind that Powell will be in the top ten this upcoming season. They had alot of close games last year, one in particular with Perry Central, in which they only lost by one point.
09-25-2006, 02:23 PM
If being in the top 10 of your region is a success for you, and you are one of the biggest schools in that region, then enjoy the season. You are a very easy person to please. And if that was the goal, why push Coldiron out. He did that most seasons and got them to the Sweet 16.
