NKY 2014 Players to Watch
#1
Needed to be started so I thought I'd do the Honors-

Ryle-
Logan Ross 6'2" 260 -C- 3 year starter and already received D-1 FBS looks as a Junior

Tucker Teepen 6'4" 240 -OT- starter and the kid has grown every year would not be surprised if he was a lot bigger by next August.

Tristen Hall 6'1" 260 -OG- big body will be a returning Starter to anchor a strong line.

Collin England 6'2" 170 -ATH- we will see how the new coach uses Colin but he could be an All State WR/TE with a good QB.

Ryan Woolf- 6' 170- MLB/FB - he made the 1st team all NKY team as a JR over a group if stellar LBs from other schools. That's says a lot

John Meiman- 5'9" 180- LB - 3.yesr varisty starter

Jon Belk- 5'10- 150- LB/DE- 3 year starter. Probably the most aggressive player I've watched in High School football. Not afraid to sacrifice his body to make even the smallest play. Fun to watch.

Lex McGregor- 5'6" -RB- I believe he would of thrived in the Warner offense he is one hell of a running back but it will depend how he is used in a new system.

Alex Brownell- 6'1" 210 -ATH- he's played every postion but CB on Defense and all the skill positions on Offense. He will be heathy next season and I would expect a big year.

Grant Arnwine- 6'4" 170- WR- I hope the new offensive cooridnator can figure out how to get this guy the ball. It's common sense to throw to him against DBS averaging 5'9" in height. Example- Fussinger for Cooper this past year.

Hodge will be a big time player!

Dixie Student-Athletes to watch for '14:

Seniors

Luke Caple DB
Ethan Harrison OLB
Andrew Hedger TE/DE
Branden Johnson OT/DT
Colson Machlitt DE/FB
Drew Moore QB
Ben Owens LB/FB
Luke Zajac LB/RB

Juniors

Ethan Schulte DB/K
Gunther Faeth DB/P
Michael Penick DB/RB
Noah Caple LB/TE
Keegan Barmore DL/FB

Dixie will have good depth at the skilled positions. Going to be difficult to maintain or improve upon their graduating lineman.

There's a good group of underclassmen which will provide depth and may surprise a few upperclassmen for varsity playing time!

Wilson from Campbell Cty should be the next NKY QB to get big looks as well. He's what 6'8" and is actually the listed height not like pike who was maybe 6'4.5" AD was listed as 6'6" on every site across the country.

Frame for a college coach to work with..

Agreed but don't you think they will use him in multiple roles and put the Soph in a lot. I have been hearing about him for a few years now similar to what I was told about Towles.
#6
I was impressed with WR Jenson Feggins from Highlands. He should have a big senior season.

From Cov Cath...

On Offense:
Adam Wagner - Sr QB. Didn't get a chance to show what he could do this year with the injury. He is dynamic.

Ben Dressman- Jr QB/ Athlete. Will be interested in seeing how CCH keeps Wagner and Dressman on the field at the same time. I think they could use Ben in much the same way as they did his older brother- make him a threat to touch the ball at multiple positions.

Ben Darlington- Jr RB. Got a ton of experience this year with Bir's injury. Tough, fast, hard hitting north and south runner- excellent blocker as well

Sam Murrer- Sr OT. May have been the best lineman on the team this year as a Jr.

Logan McDowell and Lee McLure- Both Sr WR's. Both have tremendous quickness and hands.

Ryan McGinness- Jr WR- terrific athlete who will get touches in multiple ways much like Logan and Lee - via Jet Sweeps etc.

Haven't talked about VonHandorf (So) If he plays I expect he will see the field in some fashion- just too good an athlete with the ball in his hands.

On Defense:
Cam Pitzer - Jr LB. had a breakout year as a Soph. Ball hawk

Alex Wagner- Sr Safety. Twin brother of Adam. He was a stud this year- I see no reason to think he won't be a stud next year.

Ben Zumdick- Sr Safety- same as Wagner. Was leading the team in tackles until he got hurt very late in the season.

The entire D- Line. This group was filled with young talent this year and every one of these guys started or played starters minutes all year. This line was an unexpected strength to me this year. I expect this to be a real strength of the defense next year and one of the better d lines in the state.
Bailey- Sr
Brooks- Sr
Fortsch - Sr ( also a damn fine punter)
Stiens- Jr
Thorson- Jr

Another kid to watch is Soph LB Alex Shelton- he has a non stop motor and will be on the field.

Should be a good year for CCH. Can't wait.

From Simon Kenton:
Dillon Powell RB Jr
Barry Deaton LB Sr
Chris Hicks Lb Sr
Quinton Marksberry DL Sr
Christian Olmstead OL Sr
Grant Vercheck TE Sr
Logan Winkler WR Sr

Look for Tucker Mueller DL Jr to turn some heads as well.

Breandon Johnson from Holmes will return for his Sr season. 6'2'' 320 lb monster with quick feet and the strength to fight off double and triple teams all day.

If this is #75 (I believe), then yes he is. Too bad that he is at Holmes. If he played for CovCath or Highlands where he would get some exposure, he would be one of the TOP recruits in the area. Great motor for a kid that size. I really enjoyed watching him play Highlands last year.

yea...Cov Cath and Highlands have just been churning out the big time recruits the past few years. Can you name 1 D1 player from Cov Cath in the past 5 years?

Paul Ritter, Bradley Way, and Max Halpin are three that come to mind. I thought Blake Bir was playing as well.
#13
Off the top of my head-
Max Halpin- WKU
Troy Timmerman- Air Force
This year, I'm guessing Sam Burchell will probably go to a D1 school after it's all said and done.
But really, whether a kid goes D1, D2 or D3, who cares? They are all getting help with a college education
#14
Also I think Heflin and Racke will have a great season for SK.

Is he really six-foot eight? I understand kids have a growth spurt, but I think the basketball program lists him at 6 foot 5. I'm sure he'll be a fine quarterback, but I was a real fan of Avery. He was savvy with the ball and could run real hard. I guess only time will tell if Wilson can carry that kind of field leadership.

Avery was fun to watch and a "true grit" old time footballer. He will be hard to replace. Will he be playing at the next level?

My question about Wilson is will he even play football after the success that he had on the hardwood this year?
#19
l believe Arnwine is almost 6ft 5in, He and England are closer to 190 - 195 lbs. Seen them both at track and they look huge. Bateman is no slouch either. All three have gotten much bigger.

Just curious how you know Wilson is not playing football this year?
#22
Alec Hazerez from Bellvue is pound for pound one of the best players in NKY. Plays DL and RB. Needs to keep his composure better but is a tough SOB.
#23
Wilson from Campbell County has informed the coaches that he will not play to concentrate on basketball.

Dixie Heights Seniors led their team to a 9-1 regular season and 6A District 6 Championship! So they've done well. And their journey continues...
