Just curious to hear what everyone thinks about the Breds in the 2014 season. Obviously need to replace QB Mac Franzen, but main ball carrier is back along with quite a few receivers though they will miss the big man on the outside. What will they look like defensively? I believe that the coming year senior group is not large number wise, so they will need some younger guys to step up next year. What are everyones thoughts?

I think NCC will be loaded again next year. They return 3 starters on the oline and they had a group of guys who saw considerable playing time that didn't start. They have quite a few skill guys returning at wr and running back but qb will be the question mark. Defensively, all of their d tackles and backups return, as well as the secondary. I look for a couple of freshman to make considerable contributions on defense. This team mirrors last years team in terms of talent. They don't have that big "stud" everyone is use to seeing, but they will play together as a team.

2014 Breds return a very nice group of players, including starters:
Jr. Maleek Lawrence OL/DL
Jr. Luke Kues WR/DE
Jr. Jake Smith RB/DB
Jr. Kobe Tallon WB/LB
Sr. Nate Enslen WR/DB
Sr. Colin Hoover OL/DL
Sr. Brandon Gray WR/DB
Sr. Logan Neff OL/DL
Sr. Jacob Wieland OL/DL
QB will either be Jr. Erik Anderson, Sr. Grant Schilling, and even heard basketball & baseball standout, Zach Pangallo might come out for his Sr. year. He was starting QB on the Frosh team.
NewCath will play the same non-district schedule as last year, 1A Beechwood, 4A Ashland, 5A Cooper, 6A Dixie, 6A Campbell Co. & 6A Simon Kenton.
This team will be back in BG again next year, mark it down.

^That would be great if Zach decided to play. I've heard rumblings that Clint Bartels is also considering a return, he would make a great addition to wr and db. Hands down, Erik will be the qb next year.

Best get there next year because there is a storm brewing to the West that may turn its path toward 2A

What in the world is with you ?!?

In the first place, it IS the correct thread ("Ncc 2014"). In the second, Somerset never kicked my butt. Nor did they kick Prestonsburg's butt. Don't believe me - ask the Jumper fans...the Blackcat/Jumper game could've gone either way.
:eyeroll:
But absolutely, NewCath will be a top contender for the 2A east semi-state.

Don't like it do you? You told me the same thing in a different thread, so I thought fair was fair. I won't answer for the Somerset fans but you did get beat....right?

Dude... I was on subject in this thread in my post (even if it was a simple attempt at humor). You posted "Don't be shocked when NCC is back in the finals" in the "Prestonsburg 2014" thread. What you said had no relation to the thread subject and as such, didn't belong. Hahaha...if you had said something rude but on subject like "P-burg sucks", I wouldn't have called you on it. You can take whatever opinion you want.

And losing a game by a one score does not equal "get your butt kicked". Getting your butt "kicked" is where the opponent is playing the JV team in the 2nd half. That never happened to the Blackcats this year.

I didn't mean to get under your skin, but I can see how what I originally wrote could be taken as flippant. My apologies to you, too..

Any updates on the Breds now that the spring is quickly approaching? Do they have spring football at NCC? Is Pangallo going to play football? Are all of the coaches returning next year? How many kids will they have on the team? Will there be a frosh team next year?
02-11-2014, 08:28 PM
Boys on the hill are looking good. They've been conditioning since beginning of January. All coaches are back, except Bob Schneider, who retired at the end of last season. They are adding another coach, NCC alumnus Patrick Kallendorf. I'm sure they will have a Freshmen team, the junior high team had A lot of 8th graders last season. No word on Pangallo yet. They have done big players that will be sophomores this season, that are sure to help out the team.

I saw NCC on film and they were impressive !
02-12-2014, 01:48 PM
You can expect a tough hard nose football team that will be battle tested and prepared come playoff time. Each year you hear stories of how they will be down this year. The rest of 2A is still waiting. Do they belong in 2A? That's a whole different thread.
02-12-2014, 02:43 PM
As of now the way things look, NCC will be in 2A again this coming season.

People who follow the program are excited about what they have coming back. More experience at the o-line and some good athletes at the skilled spots. Good Luck Breds.

Well, I for one believe for the Breds to have a chance, Brandon gray needs to be moved to QB. I realize the senior to be is not very tall, but what he lacks in size he makes up for with heart and smarts. Hands down the smartest football player NCC has. Probably should have been put there lst season and franzen stay at WR. The junior class is far more talented than the senior class, but some if these seniors have played a lot of ball. The Oline should be a strong point in 14, was a very disappointing group in 13. Wieland and Lawrence will dominate Opposing Dlines. Linebackers will be much improved as a group with some of the sophomores to be, talon could be the next sutkamp there. C. Sutkamp and S. Pangallo could be studs at LB. Keus and Lawrence should be studs on the Dline. If smith grows up and wants to put the hard work in, he could be the leading rusher in NKY. Nate Enslen should not see a ball thrown his way on D, if they do, he will be NCC's version of the Gallatin DB, McCoy.
Caldwell and desalles should be the favs with NCC a close 3rd.

I thought Pangallo was coming back to play QB? Who do they have to play wide out? Smith needs to grow up, what does that mean? Where does John Harris fit in the picture? What kind of numbers will the Breds have? No mention of Hoover or Neff, did they not play quite a bit last year? Who are some players from the frosh team?
02-13-2014, 06:21 PM
Don't see Pangallo coming back, he's got too much invested in baseball to risk anything. Harris seems to be a good/ smart player. He needs to add a little size and strength, but what football player doesn't? Spencer Pangallo, Curtis Sudkamp and Cole Carmack should all be solid contributors as sophomores, where they play is anyone's guess, but they will be on the field. S Pangallo could be extremely effective at tight end if that's where the coach's decide to put him. The oline should be solid with 3 starters returning in Hoover, Wieland and Neff. There is plenty of talented underclassman to fill in the other positions, so that should be fun to watch.
02-13-2014, 08:15 PM
Truth be told, who knows where j. Harris fits in. I personally think he should have been in the rotation at rb and lb last season. He's a lot like Brandon gray, not real big but he is a very good football player. Harris should have seen time last season on both sides of the ball. If gray is your smartest, Harris is right behind him. Don't hold your breath for z. Pangallo, I put it at about 5% he comes back.

Mantax, your post presents many questions. I'd be interested in your thoughts on who you think fits where and why?

Really have no thoughts on who I think fits where and why. Just interested in hearing what those in the know have to say and what we are to look forward to in the coming year.

NCC will probably do what they done for a while. Play a brutal schedule for a 2A school, possibly/probably go into district play with a sub .500 record, waltz thru there district and first 3 rounds of the playoffs, and then have 2 games between them and a title.

No thoughts? You had quite a bit to say about Lyon and Sudkamp, as well as, many of the other underclassmen. It's just odd that you solicit insight from a person in the "know", then question the answer. It's your thread, stop beating around the bush!

Come on Strawberry. I have no connection to the program unlike you and some others might and frankly do not know much about the kids that play except for the few that I read about here and in the paper. Figured there may be some on here that could provide some objective opinions. If you and others do not want to share with the rest of us, then that is up to you.
02-14-2014, 10:06 AM
No big deal. I just thought by how you approached some of the topics that you were in the "know", and I was hoping for you too share.
