Powell Co vs West Carter thoughts, predictions and bets.
#1
I'm starting a new thread for this discussion. Keep it civil and discuss the game.

West seems a little down this year so It could be a close game. I'll take West by a TD.

idk ...powell is not that great this year...but there running bak is ok now ..there qb is back and there line has got a new coach ...they well be better line wise ..and they have prac pretty good on there bye week..so i say powell might win ...that is only if west dont play A game
#4
Ok West is really sucking...and when they are up on a team 16-0 at half and come back to let them score 31 points in the 4th quarter to lose...I'm gonna take Powell. Every body is back this week...#11 qb/linebacker, and #8 tight end/lineback. I'm taking Powell on this one by 2 TD's.
#5
West Carter in this one.
#6
powell by a td
#7
play to our potential and be perfect and have the heart and we will win, powell is going to win
#8
Powell Is just now getting all of their starters back and healthy so i think powell will take this one 22-16.-
#9
I think Powell will win 42-0 due to the return of #11 at quarterback.
#10
if the games at powell west will lose due to the home feild cheating....im sorry i mean advantage...or is that the same thing:rockon:

Please keep this thread about the game. Not the officials.

I coached at Powell a couple of years ago, We were 10 points away from being 7-3.
16 points away from being 8-2. The only 2 games we didn't have a chance of winning were Russell and Flemming. Coach Jones and I still talk weekly and the man gives his all to the football team. Powell has a couple of really good linemen in Shriner and Elam.
I've coached at 4 different highschools and Shriner is as good as I've coached. I will beg to differ about the line will be better with new line coach statement. The o-line I had only lost the battle up front in 2 games my last year at Powell. Look at the films.
Even against Russell, We held our own on the l.o.s. Until they get coach Jones some experieced help at position coaching and give the guy the all around things he needs to have to build a program I dont forsee a big improvement right now. If they get behind him, Give him what he needs, Experienced coaches, Support, Yes I do believe he can start the building process of a program that has never had even had the foundation layed. Coach and I are working right now on getting a line coach back for next season and believe me you'll be ready to play. It'll be hell but you'll ready for the war in the trenches and noone will intimidate you. Powell can win Friday in a close game. You'll lose big or win close. Powell county 24 and West Carter 22

Yes I still say Powell has a better overall record than Montgomery lol

Just asking an honest question. I was there for all 3 games and the scores were: 03 was 50-12, 04 was 48-22 and 05 was 42-12. How did Powell control the LOS in these games? I am trying to get your honest opinion on this.
#15
Sorry to disagree quickstep..but i dont think that the outcome of the game is going to be by 42 points just because of the return of #11,although i do believe that powell is going to prevail in this one..28-21.As long as everything is clicking and everyone is focused..Powell SHOULD be the victor.
#16
I was there in the 48-22 game, Was my last season. To us scoring 28 on Russell was a moral victory. We didnt control the l.o.s but I felt my line gave everything they had and never let up. Russell was great, Had the Gross kid playing tailback. Russell exploded on us early but we never got our heads down that game. When I graded my linemen I was really surprised how well they played that game. Im not saying we won the battle with the line, I'm just saying I felt we never backed down and held our own on the line.

Ok I understand. In the earlier post you said you controlled the LOS. I see that you are saying that your boys never gave up. And that's really all you can ask for from a team. That team with Gross was tough. Heck Gross was tough all by his self. Was that game in 04 in the rain?

I believe so, Gross broke one for round 60 on the first play. How would you rate Gross in the top backs ever from Russell? Gross had a natural field vision, He could always find the lane through traffic. We were down 28-0 early. That year we really felt we would be in the playoffs. The Powell/Morgan game was a 7-7 tie going into the 4th.
We held them on the 2 yardline 4 in a row. We ended up getting a punt blocked for a morgan td that cost us that game. We had East beat right up till the end of the game as well. West started off 3-0 that season , We played them game 4 and beat them 20-12 at West. We had that monster qb that year, Big Stew, He was like 6-5 230. Im telling you if coach Jones sees all this smack being taked by Powell players, He will take care of it. #11 knows better than to get on here talkin all that stuff to West or Russell. Coach Jones wont tolerate it.

As far as Gross goes I believe that he is the premier back to ever come out of Russell. If he was a bit bigger he would have went D-1 easy. I saw him the other day and he looked like he has out on about 15 lbs of muscle and says he feels great. I believe that he is either 2 or 3 on the depth chart at Georgetown.

As far as the smack talking on here. I'm sure if Ivan got word of any of his boys doing that he would deal with it. I'm sure Coach Jones will do it as well. I'm looking forward to seeing #5 the RB from Powell to see just how good he is.

I have a son that played a bit in that game and played the first half in last years game. Sadly football is over for him he dicided to go to NKU and get an education.

I don't know anything about 5. This is his first year I do know. Their center 78 John Shriner started for us as a soph. He's an exceptional lineman. If you go to the game check out their big left tackle, Harlan Elam, He's a man child, bout 6-3 300lbs.
These 2 really stand out on the line. They got a solid te in Sebey, Heplays basketball as well. Coach Jones had a very good tailback in Blackford who started last year but transfered to Clark.Coach really bragged on Rice at qb also. Powell is very shallow at skill positions this year and don't have alot of speed. Coach is doing the best with what he has. I think the o-line as a whole could be much better, They really do have a couple of really good linemen.

I think that Powell will win this one

I'll definately be at the game I only live about 2 miles from the stadium. Elam should match up well with our right tackle/man child Seth Harvey. He's a 6-5" 330lb sophomore. :yikes:

Sorry to side track the thread. Getum choppin if you would like to rehash some of the games send me a PM. Thanks.

You are correct.#5 is in his first year of football in highscool. He is very quick on the field. Shriner is a HARD hitting lineman/LB..i know from experience. Harlan is a very big kid for his age and has alot of potential.Hopefully we will see him at the next level in a few years. As for blackford, he could have been a standout at PCHS, but personal/family reason's kept him from playing. Due to the return of more experienced players this weekend..Powell should see a victory friday night!!!:redboxer:

Getum-Choppin, welcome to the site. Really enjoyed reading yours and Midee1 posts. Agree on Shriner he is a hoss. Blackford that transfered to Clark Co..is he playing ball there?

Best of luck to Powell Co and hope you bring home the win.
#25
i think that powell will take this one
#26
I cant say but Powell could get a pleasant surprise friday night. If it happens it will be good for Powell for friday and the rest of the season. If it happens you will know what Im talking about friday. We will just have to wait and see but it is big.
#27
this will be a great game and i think that Powell will have a tough time but they will come out on top...this will be a very close game
#28
I Agree...When We Played At Powell Two Years Ago We Couldnt Get Ahead For All The Flags Thrown On Us...It Was INSANE!!

If im positive..Blackford is not playing football at GRC.Reason being maybe from a very good source that he was supposed to move back to Powell, during that time practice had started for both teams so he decided to sit out this season.

This will be a very close game. After watching the Rowan vs. West Carter game i see a good game in West this friday night against Powell. But imo its goin to come down to who wants it the most in practice this week and who works harder, not who's coming back for powell because i'm pretty sure that powell will take the same starting line-up that they've had all year, no qb changes or anything, just my opinion.Powell is goin to have to step it up this week in practice for there is no guarentee in a win even though West looks weaker than previous years.
