Three Mid-South Conference teams make it. Seems Lindsey Wilson might have got snubbed.

Heres the story.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the teams and pairings for the 2013 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS). Sixteen teams will play at eight FCS First Round sites on Nov. 23. The quarterfinal pairings, to be played on Nov. 30, will be announced on Nov. 24.

Top-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) and No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) enter the FCS as the NAIA’s only unbeaten teams – both at 10-0. The Patriots secured its first 10-0 season since 1988 and a seventh all-time playoff berth with a 56-14 win at Bluefield (Va.) in their regular-season finale. Grand View, who is making only its second FCS appearance, is 10-0 for the first time in program history. The Mid-States Football Association Midwest League champion Vikings played arguably one of the toughest schedules this season, featuring five ranked teams and one NCAA Division I FCS opponent. Cumberlands hosts St. Ambrose (Iowa), while Grand View kicks off FCS action against Ottawa (Kan.)

Six-time national champion Carroll (Mont.) – the most decorated among the qualifiers with 39 victories and 21 appearances – returns to the field after a one-year hiatus. The Fighting Saints are 15-5 in first round games, including a string of 12-straight victories. Carroll’s last first-round loss came against Frontier Conference rival Montana Tech, 49-28, in 1996. The Fighting Saints earned their most recent national title in 2010 with a 10-7 victory against former NAIA-member Sioux Falls (S.D.). Carroll is scheduled to host familiar foe Georgetown (Ky.) in the first round. The two teams have split their previous four FCS meetings with Carroll winning the most recent matchup, 35-3, in 2011.

In addition to Carroll, Baker (Kan.), Benedictine (Kan.), Georgetown, Missouri Valley, Northwestern (Iowa), Saint Francis (Ind.) and St. Ambrose (Iowa) have made at least 10 appearances in the FCS.

There are two newcomers to the field: Faulkner (Ala.) and Sterling (Kan.). The Eagles, who enter the playoffs with a 9-2 record, claimed one of the FCS’s nine at-large positions after finishing the regular season as the co-champion of the Mid-South Conference West Division. Sterling (9-2) received the an automatic berth after winning its first-ever Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.

Rocky Mountain (Mont.), who received an at-large berth, is making its first appearance since 1999, snapping a streak of 13-straight seasons without participating in the postseason – the largest drought among the qualifiers.

For the sixth-consecutive season, the Rome-Floyd County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host the 58th annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship on Dec. 21 at Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga. The event will kick off at 4:30 p.m. EST.

If Gtown can overcome that whopper of a trip that could be the best game in the first round. Faulkner will have a very tough one to win. Anyone know anything about St. Ambrose? Anyone following Cumberlands football know what happened to the Cobb kid? He's a beast but i've noticed he's only played 6 games this season, is he injured?

Congrats Cumberlands. Go Patriots.

Cobb has been injured all season. I think he hurt his ankle the first game of the season. He reinjured the same foot against Reinhardt. He has not been 100% all year.

That's really unfortunate, that kid is an absolute beast! Jordan, Deed and Lewis have all been workhorses in his steed though.

After looking into Saint Ambrose, I think the Pats will have a tough game. St. A has destroyed some pretty good teams and their 3 losses were all pretty tightly contested. Should be a great game.

I wish LWC could've gotten in too. They had a good year and even beat Faulkner and almost beat Cumberlands.

IMO this really is the best 4 teams in the NAIA. Both of these games will be good ones. Carroll is the only one remaining that has won a title.
#13
All year long UC, Grandview, and Morningside have been top 5 teams and have played very well. It doesnt surprise me they are still in it. Carroll doesnt surprise me either. They have always been tough.

Patriots are headed to Rome, Ga. For the NAIA title game Dec. 21. Overtime winner today over Carroll College 34-27.

Cumberlands will face Grandview in the national title game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (Complete Schedule) Cumberlands (Ky.) and Grand View (Iowa) continue to make program history as the two sides punched tickets to the 58th annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship with semifinal victories today in the 2013 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS). Cumberlands won an overtime thriller against Carroll (Mont.), 34-27, while Grand View rolled to a 35-0 win against defending national runner-up Morningside (Iowa).

Both Cumberlands and Grand View will be playing in their first-ever championship game, when the two sides square off in Rome, Ga., on Dec. 21.

Since 2000, the semifinal home teams are 23-5. Only three visiting teams have won in the semifinals since 2004, including 2012 national champion Marian’s (Ind.) 20-17 victory at Missouri Valley a year ago.

Much as they have all season, Cumberlands relied on its NAIA-best rushing attack to down six-time national champion Carroll in overtime. Quarterback Aaron Craig led a ground game that tallied 287 yards on the afternoon with 165 yards and two touchdowns on 27 attempts. However, arguably Craig’s most important score of the afternoon came in the overtime when he connected with Iquan Deed for a 12-yard touchdown pass, which turned out to be the game-winner.

For Carroll, running back Dustin Rinker had another tremendous performance with a season-high 237 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries. The Fighting Saints held a 499 to 385 advantage in total yards. With the loss, Carroll falls to 12-2 on the season and 1-3 all-time on the road in the FCS semifinals.

In the first all-Iowa FCS semifinal in NAIA history, Grand View was dominant on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Vikings eclipsed 430 yards of total offense for the third-straight game with 455 yards (293 passing and 162 rushing). Despite single-digit temperatures, quarterback Derek Fulton completed 18-of-27 attempts for 293 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Brady Roland was his primary target with seven catches for 146 yards and both of the previously mentioned touchdowns.

Defensively, Grand View held Morningside to 186 yards of total offense – 390 yards below its season average – including 70 from the passing game. The shutout is the first time Morningside has been held scoreless since the Mustangs lost 24-0 against former-member Sioux Falls (S.D.) on Oct. 14, 2006.

For the sixth-consecutive season, the Rome-Floyd County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host the 58th annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship on Dec. 21 at Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga. The event, which will be streamed live on ESPN3.com, will kick off at 4:30 p.m. EST.
