It's all starting to come together in 1A
#1
I had a little time, imagine that, last night and got to looking into things around 1a. I was wondering how things were beginning to shape up. What I decided to do was take the teams listed in the latest version of the KHSAA coaches poll and compare their games to one another using the Litkenhous Ratings. This is what I came up with:

****For those who don't know the higher the number in the Litkenhous Rating, the better the team.

Sorry, it compressed the margins again. I really don't like the way it does that when you send.

Here are some key notes to keep in mind about this:

Here are the teams that have played opponents with a 90 point rating or higher and the results.

Mayfield, has played 5 teams with 90 or greater and has won all 5. The highest is 117.8.

Russellville, has played 1 team with 90 or greater at 100.9. They won that game.

Pikeville, has played 1 team with 90 or greater at 112.2. They lost that game

Beechwood, has played 2 teams with 90 or greater. They lost both games. The highest was 116.5.

Hazard, has played 2 teams with a 90 or greater. They won one and lost one. The highest was 91.6.

Williamsburg has played 2 teams with 90 or greater. They lost both games. The highest was 107.4.

Frankfort has played 2 teams with 90 or greater. They lost both games. The highest was 110.2.

Bellevue has played 1 team with 90 or greater. They lost that game to a 91.6.

Granted this is not a fullproof system, but by the end of the season you can almost write it down as correct. They currently have McCracken Co ranked ahead of Mayfield even though they lost to Mayfield. I know that is supposed to go by the body of work. The problem I got with that though, is that we also shared a common opponent. We beat that opponent and they didn't. The other 2 teams they played were Bullitt Central, who they blew out and a Tn team that won't even count for this ranking. We on the other hand have not played anyone below a 90 and have won all the games, so I am not quiet sure how that works.

Sorry but its Mayfield Beechwood Hazard or Pikeville these 4 teams 2 of them will play for the title Class A football overall is very weak outside these 4 teams.
#4

All that tell me who Williamsburg has to beat in the east to go to bowling green Confusednicker:

Pikeville may have something to say about that as well.... Williamsburg has got to get over the Hazard hump before they can talk garbage about going to state...
#9
I think Lawrence County is 4-1, not 2-3.
#10
Sorry about that Ramcat. You are correct, my numbers are running together. The lit rating is correct though.

55 I enjoy your pesentation, however would you post the won lost records of the teams the A schools have lost to. Where I am coming from is, Williamsburg has lost two games to two teams that are unbeaten, I don't think anyone can say how good these two teams are. Wayne or North Laurel.
#13
Wayne is 5-0 and has a lit rating of 107.4. North Laurel is 4/0 and has a rating of 99.3.
#14
Wayne and North Laurel are very solid teams.
#15
I just dont see Wburg as a definite threat. They have shown no ability to stopping a wolid team's offense.
#16
If they can keep a good team from blasting them, I will call them a contender. I honestly believe that Coal Grove or Ashland would beat Wburg.

I have never blamed the officials I don't think I will. I don't make excuses, I don't think I will do that either. That being said there are reasons that sometimes have a devistating effect on the way the game was played and the final score. Teams that are class A playing up aganst a quality team can and often win. however they cannot make mistakes. they have to be as sharp as a razor,, In the North Laurel game Williamsburg had three calls that in my opinion destroyed their chances. The officials were exately right on all three calls. The first was the one that hurt them the worst. Early in the second quarter the score was NL14 Wburg 7 Williamsburg had moved the the ball well they were on the NL 7or 8 yard line 1 and 10 Sizemore came up with blood on his arm, he was replaced we fumbled game over.
the other two calls the score was the same 3 down and 4 we were drawn offrsides in NL territory two times good NL coachin.
In the Wayne Co game Sizemore went down early he corageosly in pain played the rest of the game
#20
I will say the same thing i have always said. Championship caliber football teams do one of two things. Either they dont put themselves into a situation to let a bad or wrong call depict the outcome of a game or thu simply fond a way to rise above it and use it as fuel. I know sometimes it is unavoidable to feel cheated or set back intentionally. But champions wont let that stop them on their way to victory.

Thats why I was so proud of the Rams in the win against Coal Grove. The last 3 Raceland teams would tucked their tails and hung their heads with Beech's ejection. This squad found away to rise above it and still come ot in the win column.

Dawson-Bryant High School. Coal Grove Ohio. They were one of the biggest HS lines i have seen, maybe ever. Had one guy better than 6'6" and looked to be about 300. He lined up at the wing for the most part. With his carbon copy in front of him at tackle. Google raceland rams ihigh and watch some of that game.

Raceland's line goes 6'2 280(LT), 6'1 290(RG), 6'0 280©, 6'4 290(LG), 6'5 260 (RT)
Thats the starters. All 3 of the others in the rotation are 6'1-6'4 and go between 280-340. That Coal Grove team was just as big or bigger at each line position and not just big, Strong. They game was gritty and rough. It will pay dividends against Fairview and into te playoffs.

The thing we have to go along with that size and stregth, is footwork and over all speed. Risner may be the most explosive defensive linemen in the area, cery possibly in the entire Eastern side of the Bracket. Def the best Raceland has seen since Robbie Logan.
#24
Btw I didnt mean the biggest HS line EVER. I meant the biggest hs kine i have ever seen. And Racelands line in 08 avg was about 6'3 250. Fairview and Racelands line are large. We will get a good picture on where Raceland stands in reference to them Friday.

IMO those big lineman don't mean anything if they don't have any speed and can't move real good. Graves County's line was huge but they couldn't handle the speed of Mayfield's D-line. Same thing could be said about the state championship game last year.
#26
I agree with 55 the class A picture is shaping up... Mayfield has a good and powerful class A team and will go to BG. I also believe the road to BG from the East goes through Williamsburg. The big game in KY class A football will be Williamsburg Hazard IMO
#27
That would be alright with me. If we can get to BG, we have a real good record against teams wearing orange.

Great work 55

Are you bringing in the water truck this afternoon or waiting? Creek looks a little low

I can't bring it until tomorrow. They want it fresh. I think this week we will only give it to the jv though. We don't want to get the varsity too hyped up and then they only get to play 1 or 2 quarters. They wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Maybe we can get Williamsburg to bring them boys over here so we can play our varsity for a second half tomorrow.
