NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden: 'I don't want to live in a society that does...
#1
Meet the whistleblower for the NSA's PRISM program. This video is about 12 minutes long, but I highly recommend that anybody interested in this scandal take time to watch it. 29-year old Eric Snowden comes across as very credible and very courageous in this video, IMO. He knows that he could be dead or taken prisoner by the CIA or some foreign intelligence agency at any time. If he is telling the truth about what he knows, then he is in serious danger.

This is very bad news for Obama politically. If Snowden disappears, then there will be no end to the talk of conspiracies. If he manages to stay free and/or there are further disclosures in the media, then this story will have a very long shelf life. Snowden is obviously a very intelligent and articulate young man who gave this matter a lot of thought before he decided to go public. I suspect that the truth about PRISM will come out regardless of what happens to Snowden.

It is a lose-lose proposition for Obama and his allies that could lead to chaos within the Democratic Party. Hopefully, the political fortunes RINOS like McCain and Graham will take a hit as well. Maybe this will be the scandal that will finally shake up the political establishment in Washington.

If this guy is speaking the truth, wow! Not only will it become a lose-lose for Obama and the rest of our government, it's a lose-lose for The United States of America.

Let the Eric Snowden character assassination begin.

The fact that all of these records are being saved and the prospect that the feds can decide at any point in the future to mine the data for dirt on political opponents is one of the scariest things about this program. This disclosure coming on the heals of the IRS targeting of Obama's political enemies and the wiretapping of Fox News and the AP should bother every American. Somehow, I don't think that the Democrats who are defending Obama would want a Republican president to have the same power in 2017. I doubt that the timing of Snowden's decision to blow the whistle as a coincidence.

To see Bradley Manning's name mentioned in the same sentence with this guy pisses me off. The cases are totally different, this guy actually cared for whether or not he gave up intel that could hurt us...Manning didn't.

I agree with you all though, takes some balls to publicly go against the CIA and NSA...

I agree with you about Manning. That guy is a little weasel who sat at his desk day after day pretending to listen to music as he was indiscriminately burning CDs containing classified material. I feel the same way about Assange. His actions were never intended to bring about positive change, just to grab attention for himself. Snowden is no anarchist.

I hope that Snowden manages to stay alive for awhile but it sounds like he has some information in his head that would be invaluable to any foreign government that manages to snatch him. Hong Kong seems like a strange place for him to have picked to make his stand.

An "if" but Obama wasted no time launching an investigation of the NSA leak. That suggests to me that the "if" is much smaller than you believe (or are hoping) that it is. If you have not watched the video, then you should take a peek.

Snowden has quite a resume for a 29-year old high school drop-out. It will be interesting to see how the Obama administration decides to smear Snowden, considering that he must have been given a top secret clearance with a polygraph. I am sure that you will be updating us on all of the Obama talking points over the next few days.

Right. If he is telling the truth. If a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump it's ass.

That is extremely unlikely.

Obama's Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, was quoted saying, ""For me, it is literally — not figuratively — literally gut-wrenching to see this happen because of the huge, grave damage it does to our intelligence capabilities."

Does that sound to you like Snowden is just making up stuff? I think that you are engaging in wishful thinking. I am eager to see what you have to say after you receive your talking points.

Every move we make gathered by the NSA and deposited in vast data storage. How bout that? According to some on here this could never happen.

He is a high achieving, highly compensated IT specialist who was subjected to a very thorough background check and a polygraph examination, who was given access to some of this nation's most sensitive classified material. No, it is not likely that he shares your enthusiasm for dope.

It doesn't surprise me that two of you here take up for a person that illegally leaks classified intelligence.

I would think this would be a issue that is bipartisan.

If our government is nosing into millions of American's phone, email and other personal accounts without due cause, then the "classified intelligence" should be leaked and the program scrapped...it sure doesn't make me feel safe. If this is what they think has to be done to keep us safe, then it's time to come up with a better idea.

Their defense for all the data gathering and storage is that nobody has the resources to sit there and listen to all your phone conversations, read all of your emails, and consider whether your life activities en-toto, (financial records, military record, vocational records, medical record, educational record, personal records, political donations, views and associations, everything records) are suspicious, or of interest to the feds.

Well hey, I can't sit down and read everything posted on the internet in one day either. But, if I have a name, or some tiny bit of pertinent info about a subject, event, or person it takes less than 10 seconds to look up more info than I could ever need about he/she/it too. The idea is that it's easily flashed on some federal computer screen in living color and infinite detail at the whim of anyone in these departments. That's the problem here.

For example, if an American citizen is unjustly accused in the very same manner that Tea Partiers have been of late. Government agencies with their replete staffs, can have a field day with them when they plug into the NSA database. The IRS, for example, asked all kinds of weird questions of 501-3C applicants. What are the odds they had already data mined the individuals in question and those weird questions were all set-ups, to see if they could catch folks in some kind of misrepresentation? So, if liberals have an ax to grind with some conservative or a group of conservatives, can they use the power of the federal government to cause grief to their foes? The answer is, of course, ask a Tea Partier. And for the liberals on here to be feeling their cheerios about it because people they hate are suffering is so typically shallow of their type. They can't imagine a day when it will be their turn in the barrel.

If you aren't conversing with terrorists overseas, you are in good shape. I've nothing to hide, so I could care less if they check me out. If wiretapping suspected terrorists keeps America safer, I'm cool with it.

For some reason I'm apprehensive to believe that. The recent IRS business is enough to make anyone be apprehensive, if not, it should be.

Just another day, just another scandal.
This administrion look worse everyday.

Even you, RV, have to admit, that no goverment should do this.
Unless you have completely gone over to the socialist thought, then youd see this is clearly breaking the law.

If conscious voters, didn't need a score card to keep track of all the ever changing and evolving bull coming out of this white house you might have a tiny piece of truth to cling to here. Case in point, Rep Maxine Waters (D) Cal. who no one could doubt supports Obama to the hilt, recently said this about the futuristic ramifications of data mining---

The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life,” said Representative Waters. “That’s going to be very, very powerful,” Waters said. “That database will have information about everything on every individual on ways that it’s never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They’re going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can’t get around it. And he’s [President Obama] been very smart. It’s very powerful what he’s leaving in place.”

You really need to cue her in on all this too because, she's obviously got her cart before her horse relative to data mining and storage of information when contrasted against your more informed view point. Confusednicker:

No, it isn't breaking the law. The President that shall not be named made it completely legal to do what they are doing.

Don't know if he's a pot smoker but, he probably took the wrong approach when he decided to blow his whistle. This guy has a target on his back big enough to see from outer space. I look for him to be apprehended soon and not seen for many years. Once behind a curtain as thick as that, it's sometimes best to stay there. We needed to hear it but, I wish it had been under different circumstances.

It doesn't surprise me that you are blindly defending Obama again for no good reason other than the big "D" by his name. If by taking up for this person, you mean pointing out the illogical partisan conclusions that you immediately jumped to, then I guess I am guilty. This guy is not some idiot who just hung out and smoked your "miracle drug" until he flunked out of high school.

Snowden broke the law and he should be prosecuted for it. I am sympathetic to this guy because he had good reason to believe that blowing the whistle through the proper channels in this corrupt administration would have surely led to the same kind of retribution that other whistleblowers have experienced.

Besides disclosing highly classified information, it also bothers me that Snowden chose to identify himself as the source of the NSA leaks while standing on Chinese soil. He seems like a very intelligent man but his belief that the Chinese will ignore his presence because he is in Hong Kong strikes me as naive. If the Chinese believe that Snowden might be able to give them a directory of all NSA operatives in the world, then I would be expecting company any minute.

Regardless of what happens to Snowden, it is moronic to trust that all of those Obama political hacks who have security clearances will not misuse the data that they are collecting, if they are not already doing so. If they are using it, then it might explain John Roberts surprising swing vote in favor of Obamacare.

This guy knows way too much to allow him to live anywhere else but the US. Behind bars or not.
