Morgantown, KY (AP) -- A Louisville man went on a shooting spree late Sunday, killing three relatives before turning a gun on himself.
Wendell Bratcher, 53, was found dead Monday morning at the home of his mother-in-law in Morgantown in Butler County.
State police said Bratcher had first gone to Caneyville in Grayson County. The Grayson Sheriff's Department received a call at 11:45 p.m. CDT Sunday about a double murder and later found Stanley Hayse, 63, and his wife Betty, 61, shot to death at their home.
The Hayses' 9-year-old niece had been at the scene, and police say Bratcher drove her to her mother's house after the shooting. The girl, who is Bratcher's granddaughter, was not harmed, police said.
Bratcher then drove to Morgantown where police said he shot and killed his mother-in-law, 79-year-old Clara Brooks, before shooting himself.
The state police are investigating, but said witnesses told them Bratcher's actions might have been part of an ongoing dispute between Bratcher and his in-laws. Bratcher was also related by marriage to the Hayse couple, police said.
