Asbury's Laura Carroll named CoSIDA academic all american


TOWSON, Md. – Asbury senior guard Laura Carroll has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American College Division 1st Team selection, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® basketball teams comprise student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Carroll is only the 2nd 1st Team selection in Asbury history and the first women's basketball player selected to any of the three teams.
An elementary education major from Paintsville, Ky., Carroll owns a 3.99 G.P.A. The all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,599 points, she is ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division II free throw percentage (.942). A three-time All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree, she is also ranks 36th in the nation in scoring with a 16.4 average.
Carroll, who ranks second on Asbury’s all-time assists list with 404, helped the Eagles win their first KIAC title in 2012. She has helped Asbury to their first 20-win season this year, posting a 20-9 record overall and a 9-5 mark in conference.
Asbury wraps up their regular season with a home game against Midway at 6 pm on Tuesday, February 19. Carroll and four other seniors will be honored before the game. The Eagles will host a KIAC Tournament quarterfinal game on Saturday, February 23 at 5 pm.
