Whitley has folded. Nelson is terrible and lose like this to them? They must have give up. 21 points in a game is terrible. How do you just score 21 points in a game?

Sure hope she makes it back by District time!:disappoint:

They have 3 players out, 2 starters, and from what I hear (I wasnt there) another player is now out, which could be the biggest blow yet.
Any team would struggle.

I hate to see the wheels come off what was a very fine Whitley team.

Coach Anderson deserves better in his last year. Hopefully some of the girls can come back and they can make a run in the tournaments.

Whitley has been playing without 4 of their top six players, they got one back but in a very limited role, playing at only about 70%. Started a 7th grader Friday, and a 7th grader who is not even a point on the 7th grade team, she played the "4". Don't know what happened, but it is a wee bit aggravating to see one fool say "I told you so" when they have continued to play and win in his stars absense.

I think he'd like Whitley to lose so he can do the "I tried to tell you" posts.
The fact is though that Whitley was still a good team without Craig. They are falling apart without Powers and Smith. That's who makes them go.

Sorry, But I have to disagree with you. The girls deserve better, but old LA (Letdown Again) Anderson is getting his just desert.
Is there any way for the kids to win and the Coach to lose?

Why is that when you win it's the players, and when you lose it's the coach? If you have a group as talented as the Whitley team is supposed to be, they should have enough experience among them to rise above what a coach can do from the sideline. Real players, step up and become leaders on the floor!

Let's see: 10 2's and 1 free throw= 21. 9 2's and 1 three= 21. 5 2's + 3 3's + 2 free throws=21. Get how the scored 21 now? Basic math....:biglmao:

Glad to see Wizzard and Gut still have some blood and still alive. HDE must be bored or trying to take away from some of the losses Harlan County has suffered lately. Bottom line is Whitley is playing without players and they suck. 21 points is a disgrace.
02-12-2013, 04:39 PM
Nelson County does not suck, in fact they are third or fourth in their region. They have a very talanted post player who is being recruited by several colleges.
Whitley is without 4 of their top six options offensively, obviously you are not familiar with the Whitley team. They are struggling without 4 of their top six players but I would venture to say that any team in the region would not even be competing without their top players out.

Whitley is 7-4 since the Craig was injured, then they lost Jones, then they lost Powers, and then they lost, Smith. The loss of those players cost the Lady Colonels close to 85% of their offensive output and 65% of their rebounding, and they still have a winning record and in fact should have had one more win, but for missed free throws with no time on the clock.
Right now I would say that Whitley is doing some things that very few teams could do if they lost those types of numbers.

All bickering aside, any team would lose having the players out that Whitley does.
To be honest, Whitley is pretty much playing there JV team, and thats 100% true.
However, the more important question is when will these girls be back.
Powers, starting PG is done for the year with an ACL
Jones, backup SG, is out with a broken foot or wrist, i cant remember.
Craig is out, but shouldnt she be back within the next week?
Smith is injured, and im still not sure what happened there, but isnt she suppose to return pretty soon?
Best part is, this team only has two seniors, one being Powers who is done now anyways, and another who doesnt start, LA is done this year and its the prime time to bring a good coach in who cant take this team and win region as they should be the favorites next year, and this season isnt exactly lost yet. They played Corbin (who many think are a top 3-4 team in the region to a double overtime loss while Corbin had everyone and Whitley was without there players.

Cant disagree there. Without these players, they have no shot at region, but then again, i would imagine any team in this region losing 3 players would be done for good.

I picked Whitley to win last spring and I think they had a great chance without all the injuries. Powers is a big loss. Bigger than most realize.
My guess is Bell and Corbin will be the favorites next year with Whitley third.

I just dont see it.
Whitley will still be better than Corbin IMO, and Bell struggles to much without Morris, as they lost to Bville last night with her being limited.
I got laughed at when I said Powers and Smith was the best 1-2 combo in the region, because a lot of people didnt know how good Powers really was.
Shes a hard one to replace, and it will show.

At Whitley Rock boys game last night and I'm sure I heard Powers say she had a brace and was practicing today!

My little cousin, whos still in high school thought she may go ahead and play on the tore ACL since its her senior year.
It takes a lot of guts to do something like that. You could permanantly damage that thing, but shes a tough little thing. Has been ever since she was at Poplar Creek.`
I got word today after asking around that they expect Craig back next week for the district tourney, and Smith should be back in no time. She was just sick, no injury.
I hope they can get all the girls back.

I would think the list would look something like this:
(in no particular order)
Jerry Overbey
Donnie Jones
David Estes
Amanda Brimm (extreme long shot)
Matt Anderson
Eddie Mahan
Chris Baker (joking)
and of course the canidate to be named later.....LOL
Of course there could be a combo of two or three of the members of the list....or one completely out of left field.
Bottom line I think you will just have to wait and see but you may not have to wait too long. Two or three weeks at the outside.

Whoever Brandon Anderson and John Siler decide on. That is how both basketball programs have been running for years!!

Cant say i disagree.
Not to many of todays faithful care to much for the Andersons or Siler. Siler showed his great coaching skills when he completely failed at the middle school level.
I hope they go outside of the district.

Ill be honest with you, your list isnt too far off if Whitley picks a coach like i think there going to. Obviously, there are MUCH better coaches out there, but to be honest, they'll prolly pick someone already on the list.
Overbey might be successful as the girls coach, he always wanted it and we all know he'll never succeed as the boys coach.
Donnie Jones is almost running out of daughters and nieces to coach. If someone already with the school takes it, then he'll still be an assistant IMO, but im kind of hoping they go with a fresh face.
David Estes wants nothing to do with the high school team. The middle school team is a different story, and hes been successful there, wouldnt be surprised to see Love take it, great mind from an athletic family, might be a good choice.
Brimm- No way.
Anderson- No way.
Eddie Mahan- No way.
Chris Baker...........Just no.
I hope they make a quick move so we know what we got. I expect a new coach within a couple of month, maybe a few.
Lets hope they dont take the "safe pick" or play favorites. There are some coaches who could take next years team a very long way.

I agree completely about Siler. However, The powers to be in Whitley continue to allow those 2 to completely destroy the boys basketball program. Just look at the last hire. Completely, picked by those 2 guys.
