A.J. Youngman

Seen were Michigan State was recruiting him. Anybody seen him play or heard anything about him? Only an 8th grader. Izzo said this was only the 4th 8th grader he has recruited.
#2
Not all that
#3
Team has only won a couple of games and his Dad is the coach!
#4
Where does he pal?
#5
Play?
#6
Thomas Nelson High
#7
Only seen old highlights. Not really sure what to make of him. But I would assume Izzo is a better judge of talent than I.
#8
The other three that Izzo recruited as 8th graders were, Chris Webber, Shane Battier, and Jabari Parker.
#9
Izzo never has been known for his recruiting, about like Tubby Smith's days at UK. I haven't seen this kid play, but judging by the scores either his team is completely terrible and he is the one bright spot or he is way overhyped. Putting him in the same sentence as Webber, Battier, and Parker... Pretty legit company.

Look at the roster of the team - no seniors only 3 juniors and its a new school - one player (a junior) is commited to Bradley --- Now imagine if this kid played soley on the 8th grade team --- Doubt if he will choose Michigan St, but he is the real deal --- I personally hope he picks Tennessee

The HS recruited his dad to coach there - signed for 5 years by the time he is a JR they should be a state title contender

Are we judging by Calipari standards or normal coach standards? Because he didn't make it to as many Final Fours as he has by getting no talent. Talent wise MSU is probably 3rd in the Big Ten. That is enough for me to assume he has an idea of what he is doing.

I would guess they are ties there, seen kid play in summer, with elite ky. Not even close to there best player.

0 for 3 does he still want to recruit him.

He played for his dad at Greenup County last year as a 7th grader. He could shoot but was a liability on the floor because of lack of physical maturity.

He's a good player. Not the greatest player I have seen. No where near what OJ Mayo was at that age. Similar to Kyle Skaggs of Russsell.

Wait: Thomas Nelson has a D-I junior?

Is it the Canadian kid who transferred in (and may not stick around)?
#17
If Thomas Nelson has 2 D1 kids there is no reason they should be totally irrelevant and won 3-4 games against pitiful competition.
#18
The junior d-1 kid isn't eligible this year, just attends school will be eligible next year.
#19
Seen him play at Greenup. Could shoot the 3 then trip over his shadow. Let them have him.
#20
Seen him play about 3 weeks back, he is a stationary shooter, can not create his own shot. Probably if his dad was not the coach and playing on a team that this is their 1st year of varsity competition, he would not be playing very much. I don't think he would even make Ballard's roster. Definitely not a D-1 prospect at this time.
#21
The kid has scored 36 on two different occasions and 35 at Bardstown, I highly doubt that he wouldn't get much varsity time if his dad wasn't the coach. I am going to guess that he is the only kid in the state outside of Brent Bach to score over 35 on three different occasions and he doesn't shoot very much.

Looks like with all these posts someone close to Aj started this.. Not a bad player just not as good as one thinks.
#23
For this reason dads or moms shouldn't coach siblings.

Totally agree, it's difficult enough coaching your own kids. Not sure how anyone would coach their brother or sister.:ChairHit:

Here's your sign.

I'm far from someone close to him. Hadn't even heard of the kid until the day I started this thread.

Competition could be a little suspect and look as the year has progressed at the production. Still say at a Ballard, or Trinity only a freshman player. I do wish him the best and hope he continues to work on his game and improve.

Would not surprise me to see them back home in the Peoria, Illinois area after this season once AJ is able to play varsity sports there (must be in 9th grade or above to play varsity sports). It is the reason they came to Greenup County and the state of Kentucky a couple years ago. Youngman coached at 9 schools in 17 years in the Peoria/Northern Illinois area prior to coming to Kentucky. AJ is a great kid, very good fundamentals and can really shoot it with space, but he needs to work on his physical condition and quickness/shot creation. Hard to project where a kid this young could end up but imo he isn't near this level right now. I do wish him the best though and hope he develops into something special.
#29
Not bashing him either but I know when I saw him play he had possibly 3 places he would ever shoot from. He was a good shot when on those spots but I agree that with father coaching a lot of plays could be designed for him. I still can't see where his footwork could get that much better in 1 year.

I have played with AJ and he isn't D1 yet but he has alot of potential he's only a freshman
