Chester McCoy hired as new Magoffin County Head Football Coach
#1
Chester McCoy was announced today as the new head football coach at Magoffin County High School. According to what I heard from some people in the "know", the administration negotiated with Chester for almost a week and a half!!! It sounds very promising for the Magoffin County Athletics Program that new principal Tony Skaggs has been so pivotal in going the extra mile to make sure Magoffin County has a very qualified coach. Congrats Coach McCoy and good luck for the up-coming year.

Coach McCoy is the former defensive coordinator for Johnson Central, he came to Johnson Central from Sheldon Clark in either 2000 or 2001 and left in 2004 for a job at the prison in Martin County. Coach McCoy is a class act and a very knowledgable(sp?) football person.

I think they said he has 11 years coaching experience. None as a head coach. He was Defensive Coordinator at Sheldon Clark and Johnson Central. Coached on two undefeated teams and a couple of Regional Champions. Wanted back into coaching after being a Teacher at the Federal Prison. Apparently Principal Skaggs put a full court press on him and got him to come to Salyersville. Mr. Skaggs and the administration has told him he has complete control over the entire progam. Expect some type of feeder/elementary teams soon. Big chore is going to be putting together a staff. Only has a short time to do it. Apparently the admiistration is saying they want to help him with his staffing needs as well.

Sounds like the Admin. is saying all the right things, but it will take action. Good luck to the team and the new coach.

Grayson Smith is already on board, Alot of people will be disapointed with that move.
He could be your O-coordinator.

Coach McCoy is a great hire for MC given some time and he can have a good program in Magoffin County

Mark it down...Coach McCoy will bring MCHS from a laughing stock in the district to a contender...in a few years the district title could go through Salyersville

Arent they in the district with belfry and prestonsburg

Coach McCoy will have a very intimidating factor towards his players, if anyone has seen him, he's a beast. Knows his football very well, I've had many conversations with him about the game over at Total Body Fitness in Paintsville. An outstanding guy and a class act all the way. Congrats Coach!!!

Congrats Coach McCoy. MC hired the right man for the job. MC may have trouble winning that District. BUT, MC will have a respectable football program in the next few years. I mean in a couple of years teams won't be marking down a W on their schedules when they play MC. Good Luck Coach.:afc:

You have to wish them good luck. It's good for the game here in E.Ky. I hate to see any team get beat bad all the time. And you have to admire the players that come out and play on those teams year after year, they don't have the "State Championships" and "Regional Championships" to hang their hats on and get the PR. I'm not cutting down the schools that have those success's. They've worked hard for them. Good Luck Hornets.

Sounds like a good hire, but it will take time to build a program into a contender in the same district with Belfry and Prestonsburg.
Hopefully, the seeds of a program have been planted.

Good luck Coach McCoy!!!

I'm not saying immediately
#21
NO WAY PAL...BELFRY! Did you happen to forget that team?
#22
It will be about a while before they get to the same level as Belfry and Prestonsburg and Sheldon Clark ! Due to that they work with there players at a very young age and thats makes them where there at today !

Make no mistake about it, everyone in Magoffin County knows how tough it is going to be. But it appears that for once in a long time, everyone is on the same page with wanting a competitive program.

I spoke with a search commitee member tonight and he said that Coach McCoy was the main man from interview one. McCoy with time could get this team to the playoffs. Can they be contenders in the district? Only time will tell but I do believe he will get this program to the playoffs in the near future. Not this yr. or the next but hopefully in his 3rd yr. he can get this team to make some noise. Congrads Coach McCoy give'em hell.

Magoffin will improve on down the road with this guy, They have no where to go but up. Along time comming to reach a Pburg or Sheldon Clark status. They will never meet a Belfry status. You got Pike Central with coach Macnamee who will turn that around. I look for Magoffin to get better but this season could easily be 0-10. The district their in I don't forsee any playoff hopes even in 4 years. This coach was a freat hire and he will make them better but tough District no matter how good you are the big 3 will always be better.

Congrats to Coach McCoy. Great guy and knows the game. I wish him all the best.

man if this is the guy i know of he is a biggin kinda looks like stone cold
they got them a goodone, great hire

The discipline will never come over there. Try it and half will quit in the first week.
Youve got half and I do mean half the kids who won't play if Graysons back.
I know of 4 0r 5 who told me last week they won't play if he's back.
Look for 0-10 this season, Even losing to Betsy lane. Walking on water just don't happen anymore. Be no storybook ending here. No matter how much they improve Belfry , Pburg, Sheldon clark will crush them.

Riddick, ive known chester mccoy since i was probably 4 or 5 years old. he is a heckuva guy and a heckuva coach. and he is BIG. believe me, if they wont play, then they are missing out on one heckuva experience in playing for coach mccoy...
