Regional Recruiting Rankings as of 1/21

Back in November a few of us started talking about tracking the progress of the recent transitions with UK, UT, UC, and WKU due to head coach changes.

Here's a list of the regional notables. I chose Rivals because they rank up to 100+ vs. ESPN which only ranks a top 40.

Kentucky

UK - 45th
UL - 65th
WKU - 86th

Ohio

OSU - 4th
UC - 97th
Miami(OH) - 103rd

Indiana

IU - 48th
Purdue - 72nd
ND - 2nd

West Virginia

WVU - 22nd

Tenn.

UT -31st

So amongst the above group ND, OSU, WVU, UT, and UK are top 5 in the region.

As for the new HC hires in the region- Jones at UT, Stoops at UK, Petrino at WKU, Tuberville at UC...first thru fourth!

Please share your thoughts and predictions as to how this list may change in the weeks ahead.

This is tough year to see how good these new coaches will be at recruiting, since they haven't had a whole year to recruit at that school. Of all the new hires, I think Stoops has jumped out to the best start

other than the sun rising and setting, i don't see anything new. if wvu has another rough season like this past one, then holgerson (sp?) will be looking for a new job

We have changes...here's the latest:

-UK has dropped 11 spots to 56th

-UofL has moved up two spots to 62nd

-WKU has dropped three slots to 89th

-UC has moved up two spots to 95th

As of 1/28 here's the latest...oh how they've changed in one week due to decommits and new additions.

Kentucky

UK - 45th to 65th to now 52nd (anticipate this rank to improve)
UL - 65th holding steady
WKU - 86th holding steady

Ohio

OSU - 4th holding steady
UC - 97th moved up two to 95th
Miami(OH) - 103rd moved up to 99th

Indiana

IU - 48th to 49th
Purdue - 72nd to 57th
ND - 2nd holding steady

West Virginia

WVU - 22nd to 24th

Tenn.

UT -31st to 41st

Come Feb. 7th expect this list to change quite a bit...should be interesting to see how things turn out. National Signing Day is Feb. 6th!

These rankings are changing on a daily basis so I'll hold off on a report until the weekend. One overwhelming point of concern for me is that of all the SEC schools only Arkansas is behind UK. Second to last in recruiting in the SEC isn't going to cut it. UK will need to improve substantially in recruiting to get out of the SEC cellar. UT has dropped into the 40s after holding the 31st slot. We may pass them up.

Yes, the Cats are in transition this year. Stoops Troops need to have a solid first year on the field to prove their worthy of attracting more 4 star athletes. I'm going to remain optimistic and hope Downtowns prediction of top 30 holds water by next Thursday...GO CATS!

We will have to start winning games and go to bowl games to get out of the cellar, but the way its looking we are on the right path to get this done in the next 2-3 years.

And for UK to do so the nation needs to see them progress along the lines of 6-6, 8-4, 9-3 these next three seasons. This is a realistic goal. It will take a lot of hard work and buy in from Stoops coaches, scouts, players, fans, and the administration.

More importantly, if Stoops establishes himself as a good head coach who does what he says he'll do and increases UKs football recruiting sphere of influence throughout the southeast and midwest, the higher quality athletes will come. The quality of his supporting cast of coaches and scouts will be pivotal. They'll need to re-establish relationships that have been allowed to die on the vine due to prior coaching staff neglect!

But if we see 30s-40s rankings three years from now. You'll know Stoops Troops fell short of the necessary athletes and success needed to break into the middle of the pack in the SEC.

Withing 3-4 years Stoops will be playing with the guys he chose and recruited.
If were still a 6-6 team in 3 years, bring in Bobby.

If anything shows how hard playing in the SEC is, its recruiting.
27th recruiting class in the country, and were still 12th in the SEC.

There may be a few surprises with regards to juco additions and others with academic eligibility issues which may add or detract to the above rankings...but you get the idea!
