Note to Self
#1
What would you say now to the person you were as a kid, teen, young adult. Be mindful of your audience. What you share now may change the life of another whether young or old.

This was inspired by a clip on Christmas Day by Dale Earnhardt Jr.. This made my earth shake....consider this a walk to remember the good, bad, and maybe ugly....but more importantly share knowing you'll impact the lives of others in a positive way.

They may literally learn from your mistakes. The level of self-disclosure is up to you. But remember, you're on BGR....most of your identities are not known unless you have conveyed them to others. Based on the folks I've witnessed on this site anyway you'd share your note to self regardless. Because you get life...for all the right reasons.

Don't hold on to the past. Alway look forward to the future. And although life may not be filled with bags of riches and the women that stardust gets. Enjoy every second. It may be your last.

I had a wonderful friend with this attitude and he was in a accident awhile back and died of head trauma. Call up old friends. Hang out with those friends that u should be in jail with for the stuff you have done.

Live.

Note to self...

When you're the new kid on the block, don't sweat it, the other kids are busting your chops because their afraid of what they do not know. You'll be teaching them and their kids how to hit a baseball, swim, and play football before they know it.

Embrace lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans....they ground you and make you happy although in your early 20's you will literally fight or not for your life in a river in greater cincinnati. This will be Gods way of getting your attention and refocusing your priorities.

When the kid from another race stabs you in the back with a pencil in Kinders garden....don't sweat it...your blessed with many gifts including forgiveness....you'll have many friends from all races, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds.

When the high schoolers tempt you with drugs, drink, and going against your parents word, kindly decline...they couldn't convince their peers...why are they trying to convince a middle schooler? Wink

Make time to study...there's plenty of time for sports, tv and women when you're older. Academic success in middle, high school, and college is paramount to career success. Although your parents may have been too busy to help you, id an interest in hs. Start looking for what interests you: do you work well in a team, or alone, do you delegate well, do you read people well, can you tolerate others bs. Are you analytical or creative?

Envision going to work and enjoying work... a few are blessed to do so. When you marry. Find someone who makes you smile and challenges you to be better a person and vice versa. Life is going to throw you curves...you need to make sure you have a great teammate to help navigate.

When parents, siblings, friends, spouses pass you need to make time to grieve, cry, surround yourself with people who care and love you. Key being people who love you. When you wake up one morning and you aren't surrounded by those folks....time to re-direct.

I tell you that to tell you this...you are a blessed child of God whose parents worked hard to guide you, love you, and put you on a good foot. And even though they divorced when you were in 3rd grade you had nothing to do with it. And thankfully you made peace with that once you where old enough to have your own relationships.

You'll learn from parents divorce and find a good teammate to build your own team with. Which you will do before age 40.

I can go on and on BGR but you get the idea.....we know each other by avatars and signatures.....share your knowledge and right a note to self... you may change a life for the better.

I would tell my self to stop being stupid; I have no one to impress that's more important than I am. I know right from wrong, and I shouldn't compromise just because someone that I want to impress believes differently.

As it turns out, I was correct all the time.

Depending on if I was 14 or 15. Cause I had a huge change in life choices that summer

Either one though I would tell myself to work harder at what I wanted to do. Don't think that I worked hard enough. Push myself to do better than I expected. And if things don't work out know that it really isn't your fault.

And also know that jus because you didn't get what u worked for don't resort to destroying your body. It really isn't worth it and it destroys what talent you have. And 15 years later you will find out the downside of those "good times".

And know that while you think u know it all and your parents know nothing, they are usually giving you decent advice. You will realize this when you are typing a post on a sports site and are giving said advice to others.

to little kid: keep it up kid, you're doing great
to high school kid: truly appreciate what you have, what you'll get, and what you've lost
to college kid: put the beer down and go for a run

Don't take everything so seriously
Mistakes are learning opportunities. Don't get mad at yourself for making a mistake
Don't worry about what others are thinking about you.

If I had known this when I was younger, my life through high school and the early years of being an undergrad would have been easier. I try to teach my kids and students this everyday.

Good idea for a thread Spirit!

I've thought about this question before and reminds me of the phrase "no regrets"....apparently a lot of teens live by that these days. However, I have plenty of regrets and majority of them go back to my childhood and teen years. I came up with a saying to counter act this...."have regrets for it will keep you from making the same mistakes"...

Here is what I would tell my younger self(s)...

Child: stand up for yourself, do not let the bullies win for you will suffer the affects as an adult. Don't eat so much.

Teen/20: be a better friend! You can be successful no matter what others say but to do so, work hard in school and stay away from the drugs and alcohol for you will regret it later in life. Don't get married young. Find yourself and then find someone to love.

Curious....what, in your guys' opinions, creates a "10"??
#16
To me a ten would be devastating. Cause at that point you know that it can't get better. So I hope I never see one.

I give 9's out from time to time. But a 9 can drop to a 5 in less than a minute after she shows her attitude.

And the reverse holds true for 6-7s who become 8-9s because they become supportive, make us laugh, challenge us, make us better. At the end of the day they know us better than we know us and vice versa.

But don't tell anyone Granny...it will be our secret Confusednicker:!
