The gap between Highlands and the rest of there class over the past 7 years is too much.
I dont even see why others bother. It makes no sense.

Remember that it is TWO classes - 5A for 4 years and 4A last year and this.

Highlands marches on. Should be more of the same next week.
#7
Shocker! LOL

Not counting round one of playoffs, the game against Collins will be the easiest game of the playoffs.

FTH won the Class 4A State Championship when it beat CovCath. Now, it is merely playing out the schedule.
#10
Tried telling Boyle fans who were picking LC to win or a close game, that this is not the same team they saw week one. COV CATH is clearly the second best team in 4A behind Highlands. And no, BG would not beat Highlands this year.

One day there will be a Highlands team that doesn't win state....curious as to whether the fort will ever survive.

Congrats on the win bluebird athletes and good luck next week at state!

That day will come, they look pretty solid for next year but some thin classes of boys coming soon.
#13
So, can we start the thread - Will HHS win SEVEN straight titles......
#14
According to some they already did.
#15
I hear the first weak class is the current 8th graders.

Even worse if you saw the officiating.

FORT THOMAS — Highlands quarterback Donovan McCoy is the real McCoy.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior was the stick-out standout as Highlands ripped Lexington Catholic 61-28 in a cold, wind-whipped Class 4A semifinals on Friday night.

McCoy ran 25 times for 219 yards and three touchdowns, and the left-hander threw for 174 yards and a TD as the Bluebirds won their 46th consecutive home game against in-state competition.

Highlands (13-1), a 21-time state champ, will play Collins (11-3) in the 4A finals in Bowling Green on Friday night. The Bluebirds will try to become the first school in Kentucky history to win six consecutive championships.

Lexington Catholic, which lost to Highlands in the semifinals last year, had no luck slowing the Bluebirds' relentless offense, which piled up 647 yards.

Knights Coach Bill Letton said McCoy was the catalyst.

"We didn't tackle well, and we didn't hold the edges at all. When that happens and you've got a guy like (McCoy) on the corner, you're asking for trouble, and he gave it to us all night long."

McCoy wasn't Highlands' only weapon.

Colin Seidl, who returned two kickoffs for TDs against the Knights last year, had a 62-yard scoring run this time around. He finished with 134 yards and two TDs.

Zach Harris pounded his way for 113 yards and three TDs.

Luke Turner led the receiving corps with five catches for 100 yards.

"We played really well," Highlands Coach Dale Mueller said. "We executed, and up front we played great."

Lexington Catholic's attempt to keep up on the scoreboard fizzled in the closing minute of the first half.

The Knights, trailing 28-14, faced a fourth-and-2 at their own 47 with 30 seconds left. Casey Nash got open behind the Bluebirds' defense, but he couldn't hold onto the pass.

Highlands took over and had time for another score. A 38-yard pass from McCoy to Luke Turner was the key play, and McCoy capped the quick drive with a 2-yard TD with one second left.

"That was huge," McCoy said. "It put us up three touchdowns, and they were going to get the ball to start the second half.

"That may have been the game-changer right there."

Letton agreed.

"Instead of being down seven, we go down 21, and that changed things drastically. We came out and moved the ball the second half, but we just couldn't get any stops."

The Knights had a few bright spots on offense.

Marcelis Logan rushed eight times for 75 yards and caught three passes for 12.

"By far his best effort running the ball," Letton said.

Sophomore quarterback Reese Ryan dodged a heavy Highlands rush most of the night and fared pretty well. He completed 15 of 31 passes for 137 yards, and ran 16 times for 72 yards and a TD.

Lexington Catholic 7 7 7 7—28

Highlands 13 22 12 14—61

H—Colin Seidl 39 run (Luke Brockett kick). LC—Noah Mitchell 7 run (Bobby Jacoby kick). H—Donovan McCoy 13 run (kick failed). H—Zach Harris 4 run (Luke Brockett pass from McCoy). LC—Reese Ryan 12 run (Jacoby kick), H—McCoy 10 run (Brockett kick). H—McCoy 2 run (Brockett kick). LC—Marcelis Logan 1 run (Jacoby kick). H—David Christian 30 pass from McCoy (kick failed). H—Colin Seidl 62 run (pass failed). H—Harris 9 run (Brockett kick). LC—Logan 15 run (Jacoby kick). H—Harris 9 run (Brockett kick).

Congrats to Highlands.

Over 600 yard in offense. LexCath could not seal the deal on 3rd and longs or 4th down conversions.

Like last year the score before half time was a negative for Catholic but they did respond with the opening drive score. But with only one turnover and no forced punts it was not a good night for LexCath D.

Congrats HHS.

The ball that Nash missed looked to be underthrown and somewhat behind him. I think I could have caught the pass that Turner caught. Not a soul near him. A defensive "DOH!"
#22
Highlands wins again blah

why can't you be like Trinity and make it exciting lol

congrats birds

Can you dig it? Wrote:The ball that Nash missed looked to be underthrown and somewhat behind him. I think I could have caught the pass that Turner caught. Not a soul near him. A defensive "DOH!"

The ball that Nash dropped for a TD right before half time hit him right in the numbers and Casey catches that pass 9 times out of 10, and that would of put Catholic Down 28-21 at halftime with Catholic getting the ball first instead FTH took over at mid field and 2 plays later they scored with 1 sec left in half. But that play didn't beat Catholic. Donovan McCoy and company did that themselves. We simply had no answer for him. According to the radio Catholic had 8 dropped passes, but that had no bearing IMO on who won the game. At best it would of made the margin of victory closer but FTH was clearly the better team.

Congrats Bluebirds and my hat is off to you..Hopefully we will see you again at our field next year.....I just hope you don't have a Donovan McCoy type QB in the waiting. God Bless

#70 for Lexcath made a mockery of the game at the end. Disgraceful behavior. Should be reprimanded by Lexcath.
#25
Lexcath defense like Swiss cheese.

Wideleft01 Wrote:Lexcath defense like Swiss cheese.

I wouldn't throw rocks if I lived in a glass house Wideload.. McCoy made our defense look like swiss cheese but if Highlands has a weakness at all it would be in its defense. Their offense on the other hand is down right nearly unstoppable..... for us anyway,

A lot of fans from both sides very unhappy about the very poor job done by the referees tonight. These guys did not belong in the semifinal game, both teams deserved better. My question is, do these games/refs get reviewed and by who? These refs should not be doing HS games.
#28
Wow,congrats Knights on a great season, and congrats Highlands on the win.once again the birds proved why you don't pick against them this time of year thier unstoppable.

Individually, the guys seemed competent before the game. But I believe it was another 'throw together' crew used by KHSAA. So they were meeting each other for the first time an hour before the game I believe.

They were not communicating well and did not manage the games emotions at as pointed out.

KHSAA has had monitors on the sidelines for playoffs. I have to believe this crew was a result of their ratings. But when you put even good individuals on a team for the first time right before a big emotional game they can look bad. And for what ever reason - they were not so good last night for either side.

The head ref(white hat) was the problem. Others would make obvious calls and he would change them. He must have had money on Lexcath plus 21. He did everything he could to make the game close. Highlands was just 40pts better than Lexcath.
