Update on Dorton Wildcat Invitational
#1
We have had 2 teams (RW Combs and Feds Creek) drop out of our tournament. Both teams were scheduled to play pool games on Monday night (2 games). I am looking to fill these two spots before the end of the day. The likelihood of that happening isn't very good with the short notice, so if it doesn't happen we will only play at Dorton on Monday. That will leave each of the pools with only 2 teams instead of 3. This will result in those two teams in each pool playing each other. The winner will receive a 1 seed and the loser a 2 seed to be placed into bracket play. If I can't get replacements that will leave Pool A with Dorton and Mullins and Pool B with Pikeville and AB Combs. If this happens the schedule for Monday will look like this:

6:00 at Dorton: Pikeville vs AB Combs
7:15 at Dorton: Dorton vs Mullins

Here is the entire pool play schedule:

Pool A
Dorton
Mullins
RW Combs (dropped out)

Pool B
AB Combs
Pikeville
Feds Creek (dropped out)

Pool C
Paintsville
Johns Creek
Valley

Pool D
Belfry
Hazard
Millard

Monday, November 12th at Dorton
6:00--Pikeville vs AB Combs
7:15--Dorton vs Mullins

Monday, November 12th at Virgie
No games

Wednesday, November 14th at Dorton
6:00--Whitesburg vs Millard
7:15--Belfry vs Millard
8:30--Belfry vs Whitesburg

Wednesday, November 14th at Virgie
6:00--Valley vs Johns Creek
7:15--Johns Creek vs Paintsville
8:30--Valley vs Paintsville

Thanks Coach. Can you let Coach Roberts know that we will not need Virgie gym on Monday unless we add more teams?

Is Hazard still in Pool D or just Whitesburg?

Why are games starting at 8:30 on a school night. Couldnt a couple of them be moved to tuesday night in the open spots. You know with only allowing a hour and 15 minutes they are going to be running late also.

Sorry, that is a typo on the schedule. Whitesburg was originally in it, but Hazard has since taken their place. I just forgot to change it.

We cannot play on Tuesday night because of Blue/White Night at SV. To have those three teams playing the pool out on Wed night, each has to play the other two, resulting in 3 games. I agree that it is late, but there is no other way to get around it. We did the same thing last year and I believe the year before and got no complaints.

Not complaining, I just see an open gym for games on Monday and didnt know why they wasnt using it so the kids could get home before midnight.

If we used Virgie's gym on Monday we'd either have to play 3 pool games there, or each team in that pool would have to make two trips to finish out their pool. All coaches who expressed an opinion about it said they'd rather make 1 trip for 2 games than to make 2 trips.

With the tournament format this way (guaranteeing 2 games), I like the pool play format. With this format and 3 teams in some pools, everyone has to play everyone in their pool. If that is played in one night, it results in 3 games being played. Every night was going to be like that, but once RW Combs and Feds Creek dropped out it left us with 2 pools having only 2 teams. This dropped the number of games in one night from 3 at each gym to 1. (For example were were supposed to play Mullins, Mullins was to play RW, and RW was to play Mullins. Now we just play Mullins). We decided the best thing to do was to bring the 1 game at Virgie up here to avoid having to get 4 referees and 2 sets of game workers for just 1 game. We could have played 1 game in the other pools, but based on prior talks with coaches they would have preferred not to come up here twice for just 1 game when they could make 1 trip and get 2 games.

If we should happen to win our pool when would they play again.

Congrats to Dorton on running a good tournament.
