Assumption has a cake-walk to the finals. ND v Mercy could be interesting in QF

The state tournament is usually the Assumption, Mercy, and Notre Dame Invitational. We are just a practice to them. I still am very glad and proud that we come from a small town. We don't have a recruiting coordinator, and we don't get to pick who gets to be on our teams. These girls play multiple sports, and for them to win the 14th Region every year the school has been in existence is awesome. We earn the right to be there!

It really is only the Assumption Invitational lately. But you're wrong on the recruiting coordinator accusation - they don't have that, no high school does.
It's fun to play the "we're just a small school" card, but remember every time Assumption plays Male or Eastern or DuPont Manual, they actually are the "small" school (# of girls enrolled) not to mention all of the out-of-state schools they beat that are way bigger than they are.

I just do not understand why everyone thinks ACHS Volleyball doesn't have a chance this weekend.
The Volley Rebs are honest, hardworking, dedicated youngladies that should not be under estimated about what they can accomplish!!!!

Greenwood was the first public school to even make it to the championship game, though, last year. I hope AC shocks the world and goes all the way, but it is just a fact of life that MOST LIKELY they will lose the first round. I really hope not, I'm pulling for the 15th region reps to show how strong the top of this region is, and perhaps garner a little more respect for the top programs in this region.

Assumption is on another level its there championship to lose. Notre Dame and Mercy IMO are the only teams in the tourney that has a shot to knock them off. I dont want to sound negative but thats just the facts. I would love to see a team from the mountains take the title, but its not going to happen this year unless some teams have bad games.

Can anyone tell me how many mountain schools does club volleyball? That is how you compete at the state level.

Schools don't do club volleyball - clubs do club volleyball. Usually after tryouts, the club teams are made up of players from across several high schools - rivals in the fall, teammates in the spring.
All you need to start a club is a coach, a place to practice, and players.
10-25-2012, 09:26 PM
And a full wallet of money to travel. Any mountain team who wins one match would be a stretch this year.
10-25-2012, 10:02 PM
Plus most mountain teams have girls who play multiple sports. Makes it hard to committ to club when you play basketball in winter, and run track or play softball in the spring/summer.

Well - you just answered your previous question . . and you can't have it both ways. You either commit to get better at volleyball or keep playing 3 sports. Every great volleyball player I know started as a 3 sport athlete, and then chose volleyball over the others. Better to be great in 1 than good in 3.

WOW Allen Central lead 2 sets to 0 and Greenwood came back and defeated them in 3 straight sets

Anyone have a score from Letcher/Notre Dame?

Strikeout King Wrote:WOW Allen Central lead 2 sets to 0 and Greenwood came back and defeated them in 3 straight setsProving that the 15th region (at least the top) was a very tough region this year. East Ridge took them to 5 sets, Pikeville battled them close for a couple sets, etc.

Strikeout King Wrote:Anyone have a score from Letcher/Notre Dame?Just left. LCC and ND were just starting. North Oldham beat Central Hardin 3-1 and Campbell county beat OCath 3-1. Mercy took out Southwestern in 3-25-15, 25-7, 25-15. Shaky start for Mercy in first but settled down after that. SW played hard but just didn't have enough guns for Mercy. I figure ND will win tonight and the final tomorrow will be Assumption and the Mercy/ND winner in the quarterfinal. Neither Campbell or North oldham will beat the Mercy/ND winner. Heading back tomorrow.

ND won 3-0. 25-7, 25-3, 25-9.

Not a surprising score. AC had already beaten Greenwood previously. What I am surprised about is the street cred given to Greenwood. They are not that good this year and haven't been for several years. They got to state by winning a weak region and lost just about everytime they stepped outside of Warren County. Last year they were the beneficiaries of a bracket that was loaded on one side. AC could have, and should have, beaten them today.
10-27-2012, 12:23 AM
They should not hang their heads at all. Just ran into a
Very good ND team with several
D1 players on it. As long as you give it your all and leave everything on
the court, there's nothin to regret.
