JC pretends Greenup County's colors are Blue and White (Paintsville) and not Green and Yellow.... As JC claims another victory on the Thursday night (Former Apple Bowl Game Night) before Apple Day.

Matney isn't known for calling off the dogs. Fairview put up 72 on Greenup. This could be worse. Greenup is so bad JJ's single game record may be in trouble in this one.

We won our freshman and sophomore years, and lost our junior and senior seasons. And, IMO, it's not right/fair to the JC and Paintsville students not to get to experience the atmosphere surrounding the Apple Bowl.
Getting to play against kids you've known all your life, go to church with, maybe even be family members.
I'm just saying, I've never seen JC carry a state championship trophey off the field yet..... But there is nothing like seeing your team carry of the Apple Barrel off the field after an Apple Bowl win.

You need to worry more about your little boys on your side of the creek. The boys from Westwood are no joke! " Greasers" what are you like eleven years old. Just like most of the tigers faithful you will never grow up. The apple bowl from a competion stand point is pointless. But let's face it. It's good money for both schools and who couldn't use more money in times like these.

Disagree 100%. I'm a big fan of JC football, but if they ever play another Apple Bowl with the talent levels where they stand now, I'll never ever go and waste my time watching a manslaughter, and I think you would find out that there would be very little interest in the game. This does not interest me one iota. It's time to move on and forget that an imaginary Paintsville/Johnson Central rivalry in football still exists. It doesn't.

It wouldn't create any bigger crowds than what a JC/Ironton, a JC/Bell Co or any other quality opponent would create and it would insure that Johnson Central would receive the entire gate and concession receipts, rather than have to split it down the middle with Paintsville. It would cost JC a bunch of money to go back to the old Apple Day set up. I was on the site based council for many years, and I know first hand that JC always received the short end of the stick in this game based on the fact that JC fans commanded the bulk of the attendence for the game, and had to settle for a 50/50 split. Not good business guys. Sounds exactly like our federal government's way of thinking.

Greenup will score. Guarantee that. I do not believe a shutout has ever been recorded in the Matney Era. He doesn't believe in it (despite the howls from people who like me who desperately, desperately want one). He actually DOES call off the dogs, contrary to belief, and he will mix in the JV and freshman liberally and early in this game. It may not even be a running clock, but I bet every kid on the Eagle roster who can safely enter the football game does so.

Iv never figured out all of the folks that say matney runs up the score id just about guarentee the varsity wont see more than half of the third quarter in this one if that. If you keep running it at them with your jv and they can't stop it that is not running up the score.

I look for the score to be somewhere around the 49-7 or maybe even 49-12. I agree that greenup will score. Any true Matney fan knows that he will sub his younger guys in liberally in a game like this. With that said good luck to both teams. Let's hope for a injury free game.

A lot of people in woodford county would argue about him calling off the dogs. Me personally I say if a kid or team has a shot at a record let them go after it. I'm sure that rushing record was a great sense of accomplishment for JJ and every kid deserves the oppurtunity for the same. So if someone was close and matney did call if the dogs. He would be doing a disservice to his own kids

I would argue with those Woodford County people that the score in that game was never embarrassing, and the entire JV and freshman squads played defense in the latter part of the first half and entire second half. Had he wanted to actually embarrass Woodford County, it would've been no problem to hang 80 on them, run the clock, and be done with it in time to get back to Paintsville to watch Sports Overtime. The score remained respectable. The clock was never running. While he may have left a single player in longer at times than necessary for statistical purposes, he has never made a point of running up scores, and he has always made sure as many kids as possible get into games.
