Sounds like Williamsburg came out and played great the 2nd half, only being up 8 at the half. (14-6).

Williamsburg had some turnovers in the first half and one turnover led to a Leslie county score. Williamsburg really seemed to turn up the heat in the second half. The quarterback ran the ball very well, and the game was no longer in doubt after the third quarter. One of Williamsburgs corners had two nice pics in the second half as well.

I think Leslie and Harlan are pretty even. I think you will see a good game between these two later in the season.

Congrationlations to W burg. This was a very close game at half time. A defenseive battle. If Leslie can put a whole game together like they did the 1st half against Wburg they will make some noise in 2A and go back to back district champs. WBurg is a well sound team that is gonna make a deep run in the playoffs. IMO. these are 2 great teams that will improve
more and more as the season goes on. This score doesn't show how close the game was either IMO.

I agree that it was a close game in the first half, but Leslie had troubles offensively. If it wasn't for a Williamsburg turnover and a personal foul call, I do not think Leslie would have scored untill Williamsburg put the subs in.

leslie gets compared to last year's team to much. yes they won the first district in 6 years. yes they lost 12 seniors they were big boys, 8 over 6 foot tall. the big difference tonight was that wburg blitzed them all night and the inexperienced line for lc didnt know what to do. however, the game was closer than it sounded. i wasnt very impressed with wburg, its just the 3-0 record is intimidating. congrats to both teams. harlan and leslie will be a showdown.

Too early in the season to tell if the Burg is for real.

How is a 3-0 record intimidating? It shouldn't be.

I agree with you that leslie gets compared to last season to much and they have some really nice players with an inexperienced offensive line. I also think that Leslie coaches dialed up some nice calls on offense and the defensive scheme was great forcing Williamsburg to use the middle of the field either it be by run or pass. Leslie coaches scouted well and knew probably 85% of the jacket plays before they ran them. Even with all of that being said it took Williamsburg till the second half to realize Leslie was playing speed in the d line to try and pressure and counter the sprint out passing plays. When they started running the ball the dline was overmatched by size and strength.
Bottom line is that even being out schemed Williamsburg had over 430 yards of total offense to Leslie's 150. Leslie had a hard time running the football and protecting their qb. But they countered the speed and blitzing of Williamsburg with a ton of screens and misdirection plays. I think Leslie is a solid team that can win their district and I hope they do. They just gotta get that line play patched up a little. I know they just had some kids return this game and I am glad to see them back.
But to say you were not impressed sounds a little like sour grapes. Williamsburg did play without 6'4 receiver Andrew Griffith who is injured and rememeber that Williamsburg only has 4 seniors. Also the score was 42-6 and Leslie scored on last drive after Williamsburg had subbed down in the secondary. That Harlan team you stated would be a showdown with Leslie was also beat 36-0 by Williamsburg. Just stating some facts about the team you were not impressed by.
Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Williamsburg scored a TD with Leslie subbing down as well. They were up big and the drive before the last Leslie TD, Williamsburg threw the ball every play, up big.. That was pretty classless in my book. Show's that the coach is not used to winning and doesn't know how, especially putting 70 up against Pineville. That should never happen.
It was not offensive scheme that won it for Williamsburg, but the QB simply being an athlete. Not his arm, but his feet.

I am not exactly sure of the win loss ratio for Coach Herron but I do know that for the past at least 3 years he has had a winning record so I'm pretty sure he knows how to win. That just shows that you have on idea what you are talking about. From what I have seen of scores this year Williamsburg had not been the only team to put up big scores this year. I guess you are telling those other schools they are classless too or are you just singling out Williamsburg?

williamsburg is the REAL DEAL this year!

I agree with rule the world... you should never put up 70 pts you just dont do that to the kids .. im not just calling out williamsburg thats goes for anyone

Right.. I don't know what I am talking about. All I know is if I am up 30 in the 4th quarter, and I throw every play of a multiple play drive with my first team against a team who had subbed multiple players, that's classless...
Just voicing my opinion.
09-10-2012, 02:35 PM
Well sometimes you cant help it... Wburg couldnt help but score 70 when you score every way you can...
09-10-2012, 02:59 PM
I know for a fact that's not true Williamsburg subbed down before Leslie did. Williamsburg might have kept throwing maybe because Leslie stacked the box and Williamsburg is a PASSING OFFENSE. No reason to run into a stacked box and risk getting someone hurt.

This is so you will know what you are talking about. Coach Herron's win/loss record is 45-26. The offense that Williamsburg runs is a passing offense. Are you saying they should run what they do? My next question is were you at the game? Did you see for yourself when they subbed?
09-10-2012, 09:42 PM
I Rule the World, I think you misunderstood me. I don't think Williamsburg scheme is what beat Leslie. I think Leslie counties defensive scheme was way better than Williamsburg's offensive scheme. They defended the outside the hash passes on both sides very well and I think they hit Williamsburg harder than they have been hit all season. I actually never thought Williamsburg would ever realize they should be attacking the middle of the field until the coverage was blanketing the receivers and Sizemore just had to run. It' is not really fair to say that he beat you only with his feet, he threw the ball really good at times and was a little off other times because of the coverage. Bottom-line at times Williamsburg's play calling is to one dimensional and a really good staff will scheme for it like Leslie did.
As far as running up the score, I don't think that should ever happen to high school kids. Do I think Coach Herron was trying to do that? I don't think so but I'll never know for sure. I'd like to think that he didn't want his starting unit ending the game with a fumble like they did the drive before. They ran it 3 straight times that drive which is not their typical offense. Having watched them play for the last 2 seasons I knew next drive they would come out and throw the ball. Just seems like they have very little patience with running the football. As far as Leslie subbing down on that drive I seen many starters still on the field except for Bray and Lewis who are two great secondary players and very well could have made a big difference.
As far as scoring 70 on Pineville, you kinda had to see the entire game to make a judgement. They jumped ahead 28-0 in the first 6 minutes and subbed down almost everyone on D. Then before you knew it Pineville scores a TD on a long pass and then gets an onside kick and scores again and Williamsburg had suddenly started sleep walking and only led by 2 TDs at the half. In the third quarter they came out firing on all cylinders and put the game away. No starters played in the 4th qt. except for #15 Hamblin who cam in at QB and they ran draw every play and he broke a big run. You can not tell kids not to play hard when they are on the field. Also consider their D scored 3 TDs in the game and they ran a kickoff back. So it wasn't all about the O running up the score. I think Leslie County might have had a similar thing happen in the Maggofin county game. They were up big in the 3rd and suddenly it was really close at the end.
Let's please let this be the end of all of this. I have interest in both teams and have been around players from both teams even coached some of them. The season is about district play and the playoffs. I personally hope that these teams do not renew next season because it is tough for me.
