Reds 5 - Yankees 2
#1
NEW YORK - When Raul Ibanez’s two-run home run left the yard in the sixth inning, it looked as if the Reds were headed for a loss.

New York left-hander CC Sabathia was dominant. He had a two-run lead. The Reds have been offensively challenged since Opening Day.

But not on this day. The Reds answered the Yankees’ two runs immediately and went on to a 5-2 victory before a crowd of 45,622 at Yankee Stadium. With the win, the Reds won the series and finished the road trip 4-3.

“Great road trip,” said Ryan Ludwick, who started the answering rally and drove in three runs on the day. “The Yankees have the best record in interleague play since it started. To come into their house and take two of three, job well done.”

The Reds got outstanding pitching. Johnny Cueto threw seven strong innings. The revamped bullpen nailed down the last six outs with new closer Aroldis Chapman getting the save.

But the Reds’ rally in the seventh was the key.

“That was huge,” catcher Ryan Hanigan said. “It hadn’t been happening for us. To tie it and take the lead got Johnny fired up.”

Ludwick hit the first pitch of the seventh with a bolt to left for his fourth home run of the year. It was his first since April 24.

“It was nice to contribute,” he said. “I haven’t been doing much of that lately.”

An out later, Hanigan hit an 0-2 pitch out for his first homer of the year.

Zack Cozart, another of the Reds’ struggling hitters, lined off Sabathia’s leg for an infield hit. Sabathia came back with a strikeout of Chris Heisey. Then patience paid. Drew Stubbs and Joey Votto walked to load the bases. Brandon Phillips walked after being down 1-and-2 to force in a run and give the Reds a 3-2 lead.http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/201...y=nav|head

Just a 1/2 game out now!

“Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls – it’s more democratic.”

Johnny Cueto pitched awesome on the big stage at Yankee Stadium.

Ryan Ludwick had a huge game, and gave us the insurance to win the game.

The Reds have seemed to stay withing 5 games of the lead for several years now only to meltdown in august and september, can they keep it up?

Until they get rid of Dusty, I expect more of the same...win two , lose two...

Is that Trish Stratus?
