That would be scary lol

Caudill was a beast. He set a couple weight lifting state records and ran a 4.8 if i'm not mistaken.

In order:

Doug Howard - Belfry
Brent Coleman - Pikeville
David Jones - Belfry

Knocking on the door would be:

Barret Rogers - Pikeville
Michael West - Lawrence Co.
Eddie Deramus - Pikeville
Nick Meadows - Lawrence Co.
Micah Caudill - Belfry
Matt Slone - Prestonsburg
Shawn Robbins - Bell Co.
Lee Renfro - SW

I know there are some I left out, but those are the guys who come to mind first.

I would have Brent Coleman and Doug Howard as 1A and 1B. Both backs were great and it is about impossible for me to pick one over the other. When I saw Howard play at Pikeville this year that looked like Brent Coleman out there, they even looked the same...both GREAT backs. Eddie Deramus could have been the best back in the moutnains maybe ever if he would have devoted himself to football.

what about casey newsome and dusty hall from shelby valley
#14
Players I have actually seen play:

Matt Slone - Pburg
Mike Fannin - Pburg
Joe Blackburn - Pburg
David Peters - Paintsville
Matt Brown - Paintsville
Brock Taylor - Paintsville
Jonah Caudill - Belfry
Doug Howard - Belfry
Josh Banks - JC
Scott Salyer - JC
Barret Rogers - Pikeville
Paul Sullivan - Pikeville
#15
Eddie Deramus
Doug Howard
David Jones

and I had the privelage of playing with these guys:

Barret Rogers
Jarrod Frasure
Paul Sullivan

I can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned Michael West from Lawrence Co. He has to be the best, if not the best. 7,000+ rushing yards and didn't play any until halfway through is Freshman season. Quickest kid I've ever seen in pads.

I mentioned him, but to me he wasn't as good as Howard, Jones, Coleman, Robbins, or Renfro.

Actually, I thought he was the 2nd best runner on his team (Dontae Wright).

Also saw him head to head against Barret Rogers and Howard (Howard was a freshman). I'd take either Rogers or Howard, as a freshman, over West.

Granted I only saw a handful of games, but thats what I saw.

John Ortega was pretty darn good, when he graduated he was the state's 10th all-time scorer. Jeremy didn't play Rb in highschool. He played Full back, and that was his freshmen and sophmore year.

I don't know why I always forget about John Ortega, I guess its because when he was in his last couple years of high school I was in my early years of college. I don't remember much of anything from those times.

But John and his brother Ryan are two of the better athletes I have ever been around.

I knew he played FB, just didnt know it was just his freshman and sophmore year.

Seth Hyden from P-burg was pretty good too.
#23
Seth Hyden wouldn't be from the past 10 years though. He graduated in '93 I believe. I know Matt Slone was good, as was Mikeal Fannin. But the best is Howard from Belfry no doubt.
#24
John Ortega was a great RB and all round athlete and a great guy. I have watched a lot of football in Eastern Kentucky for the last 15 years and Brent Coleman was by far the best I had seen up until this season. After Watching Doug Howard I have to put him right up there with Coleman. I still think Eddie Deramus could have been the best RB ever in East Kentucky if he would have used his head and kept it on striaght. Another very good RB within the last ten years is Jonathan Chapman. He would have broke the all time TD record had he not got hurt his senior year at Pikeville. He was a great RB 95-97 for Breathitt County.
#25
Doug Howard from Belfry was one of those players that could dominate a game by himself. His speed and power was unremarkable and I haven't seen a player like that in quite some time. I don't know if I'd take a Fresh. Howard over a Senior Mike West from Lawrence Co. West was very tough and went to Marshall but I believe he is at Western Kentucky now. But I think Howard was probably the best as of late in EKY.
#26
I think Slone and Fannin were both as good as Howard.
#27
My top RB's who I have saw/played against from the mountains in the last 5 years.

1. Doug Howard- He is the best back I have saw from the mountains
2. Mike West- Played for Lawrence County
3. Shawn Robbins- Played for Bell County
4. Jonathon Chapman- Played for Breathitt County/Few games for Pikeville
5. Jonah Caudill/David Jones- both great Belfry Rb's
6. Barret Rogers/Paul Sullivan- both great Pikeville Rb's
7. Michael Fannin/Joe Blackburn-both great Pburg Rb's
8. Durrel White- Played for Middlesboro
9. Dusty Hall- Played for Shelby Valley
10.Jared Frasure, Robert Shurtleff, Gary Childers, and there was a big guy from M iddlesboro but I do not remember his name. I thought I would throw out some of the guys who didn't get much attention, but were great Rb/Fb's

Micah played all 4 years of high school at Belfry and had more carries for a career than Howard.

How can you not have Brent Coleman on that list?? Brent is the best RB to ever play at Pikeville High School. Well I just saw that you had the last 5 years my bad....Brent Coleman was a better RB than any RB on your list besides Howard and I don't think you could put Coleaman over Howard or visa versa.
