The Manual Machine continued to roll Wednesday night. April Wilson had 13 points and all 13 Lady Crimsons scored at least two in an 80-27 rout of Christian Academy in a semifinal of the Class Act Seventh Region Tournament at Bellarmine Universityâs Knights Hall.
Wilson took control early, scoring five points as Manual jumped ahead 10-2, and the Lady Crimsons never were threatened from there.
âShe was assertive with her play and her attitude,â Lady Crimsons coach Stacy Pendleton said. âWhen sheâs like that itâs very difficult for us to lose. Sheâs such a great leader.â
Manual (32-2), No. 1 in The Courier-Journalâs Litkenhous Ratings, improved its winning streak to 17 entering Saturdayâs 8 p.m. championship game against Assumption (17-13). Manual beat the Rockets 82-48 on Dec. 16.
Wednesdayâs victory continued a recent run of blowouts for Manual. Since beating No. 2 Marion County 47-40 on Jan. 28 in the final of the Louisville Invitational Tournament, it has won 11 straight games by an average of 45.5 points. The closest was a 65-38 victory over Butler on Feb. 18.
Pendleton said heâs not worried about how his team might respond in a tight game during the rest of the postseason.
âI think the December and January schedule prepared us for close games,â he said. âThe reason a lot of our games are a larger margin than they could be is because of my bench. ⦠Iâd rather go through it and win by 45 every game, but I donât see that happening.â
Manual led CAL 18-7 after one quarter and 40-10 at halftime. The Lady Centurions hit just 3 of 26 first-half shots (11.5 percent) and committed 17 turnovers, with Manual turning them into 14 points.
China Dow finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds and six steals for CAL, which shot 20 percent (10 of 50) and committed 28 turnovers.
Destony Curry had nine points and 10 rebounds and LeAsia Wright nine points for the Lady Crimsons.
Christian Academy 7 3 5 12 - 27
Manual 18 22 24 16 - 80
