Shamrocks use the long ball to beat Atherton 84-63

The No. 1 ranked Trinity advanced to the finals of the 27th District Tournament with a 84-63 win over Atherton at Seneca High School in the district semifinals on Tuesday evening.

Junior guard James Quick had a career-high 24 points and senior point guard Troy Saxton hit four 3-pointers, tying his career best, as the Shamrocks coasted to its 8th district championship game appearance in 10 years.

The Shamrocks used hot 3-point shooting and two big first half runs of 17-4 and 14-0 to separate themselves from the Rebels after an even game for the first six minutes of the contest. The Shamrocks hit 8-of-10 three-point field goals to start the game, including four by Saxton, and finished the half 9-of-12.

The Shamrocks reached the 50-point mark for the fifth time in a single half this season.

Trinity won its 10th consecutive game, marking just the 6th time in program history that the Rocks have strung together 10 consecutive wins. It is the 4th such streak during the Mike Szabo era and second this season.

Trinity will look to win its 16th district title in program history when the Shamrocks return to the court on Thursday at Seneca High School in the finals of the 27th District Tournament against Seneca (7-20).
