District I do believe is Bourbon's to lose. Garrard is the only team that can team that can run with them this year
02-16-2012, 04:44 AM
I agree, with Bourbon returning Hopkins and Garrard losing Hayes I think the edge has to go to Bourbon at this point. Garrard Co. surprised me last year though so maybe they can do it again.

Rumor is Hopkins is leaving/ has left Bourbon Co. for the Jefferson Co. area but I don't know if there is any truth to it. I think it is wide open (for at least 4 of the 6 teams) and will depend on the home/ away landscape of the games to decide the district. Bourbon does have the best set up as they have 4 out of 5 district games at home this year but the one on the road is Garrard.
02-20-2012, 04:31 PM
I can assure you Kentayvus has not left Bourbon Co., nor will he be leaving. In that case Where would he go? he'd have to sit out at year if he transferred anywhere instate at that . Just can't up and transfer...so 3A District 5 will have to deal with Kentayvus lol. Please use logic next time you put a rumor on here.

Pretty close to the Bourbon Co. situatio and have not heard that Hopkins is leaving. Doesn't mean he is staying but with the family dynamics can't really see him leaving.
02-20-2012, 08:58 PM
I think Hopkins is staying. I think the kids are pretty happy with the new hire/hires and are excited about football this season. In the key returners that is a little misleading. Bourbon has a lot more than just Hopkins returning. They have several young men that have a lot of game experience coming back. It will be a tough district to win, but if they can stay healthy they should be a contender. The Colonels and their fans seem to be excited about the 2012 season already! Should be some great games.

Whats up Grid Iron Warrior glad to see you back posting on here, there is no truth to anybody leaving we actually went from 40 to about 60 and you would be the first to know if somebody was, still going thru the transition stage and the kids are working hard, just because BC has a good team coming back them kids still have to be coached, good luck BC....

Absolutely great to be back. Still fighting.
Numbers up is a good sign.
Looking forward to seeing the kids take a run at this crazy thing called District and playoffs again. Counting down the days.
Still say Bourbon is the front runner with or without transitions. BC is a good athletic team and were going to be a force in this District for numerous years to come.
Major draw back is the O line. Losing a few Seniors at that position may be a hiccup for a minute. Losing Arnold as a leader hurts, hopefully, someone steps up and fills his cleats.
02-22-2012, 11:34 AM
Replacing Arnold will not be an easy task he brung a lot to the table and laid a lot on the line with the sacrifices he made for the team, Thanks "Devin Arnold" you will be missed Good Luck to you, Nothing like seeing you at the games Grid Iron I look forward to getting your advice and hearing your input this year, I know you are a fighter and will accept any challenge put in front of you im just a post or text away, you are right about this district/playoffs sky is the limit for these young Colonels how bad do they want it & are they willing to sacrifice is the Question???? They are working hard getting bigger, faster stronger and buying into Coach Hodges philosophy, Coach P made them believe in themselves and it is carrying over good things goin on at BC, GO COLONELS !!!!!

I believe they will sacrifice. We have a fine group of young men.

Not true, if it is a legitimate move he could go anywhere he wanted and still play next year, be it Pikeville, Paducah, or even Paris. Not saying he is leaving because I have no ties to Bourbon Co. nor am I familiar with the situation, but he absolutely could transfer and play next year if his family moved him to some other school district.

They need to scrap it completely. It is a horrible offense and if you keep any part of it then it will make your passing game that much easier to read. The Engineers coach may do a great job in the weight room but as long as he holds on to that offense expect a lot of 3 win seasons.

Disagree. He tried the tony franklin system back in 05 and went 0-10 and brought the double wing back and started winning games. They've led the state (Entire State) in rushing for 4 years in a row including that 11-2 season in 08, however since those players on that 08 team graduated Estill hasn't had the players to run the double wing like they use to. Estill doesn't use a face pace offense in any sport, basketball is slow pace, football the double wing is used to wear down defense, don't say it doesn't work because it does, look at the high schools in California that use it, they have State Championships, granted they use more of that offense then what Estill did. Baseball and Softball are small ball.

What are you disagreeing about? The offense that Estill runs is antiquated. In other words, it sucks. You are flat out wrong about Estill leading the state in rushing yards for 4 straight years. Here is the link from last season: http://www.khsaa.org/football/2011/stats.htm Estill is clearly 5th. Here is the link for 2010, again Estill is clearly 5th: http://www.khsaa.org/football/2010/stats.htm. Here is the link from 2009, Estill is clearly 11th: http://www.khsaa.org/football/2009/stats.htm
Estill is 14-19 the last 3 years. They aren't wearing down anyone. Any offense works if you have the horses to run it, Estill, does not. You have to be may better athletically to run a pure power offense like the double wing. Estill does not have the athletes to do it. If Jones continues to try it he will be ex-coach Jones. The best schools in California the last few years ran a west coast style offense with Will Smith, Wayne Gretzky and Joe Montana's kids. Maybe a Class A team won with that offense but Estill doesn't have the athletes to run it.
Their basketball teams are 33-57 the last 3 seasons , how is that slow down offense working for them?
I wish Coach Jones was as confident in his offense as you are. Then maybe he would have returned Coach Lucas calls about continuing the Somerset/Estill series last season. Instead he didn't want to talk about it. I guess getting outscored 131-37 over 3 games will do that. I'm not sure how that happened with that explosive Engineer offense.

Through 10 Games meaning Regular Season
You are right we don't have the kids to run it, Coach Jones even told me that.
I don't know who keeps telling you about Somerset calling Estill but they're wrong because I did talk to every coach, the administration and they got absolutely nothing from Somerset. Jones will play anyone that wants to play, he didn't receive anything from Somerset. Yea I know someone who wants the Head Coaching Job and well, I've heard a lot of Estill fans say if he get's it, they will become Powell County Fans and no I'm not one of them. I'm not saying who it is, but if he does what I've heard he does he doesn't need to be around those kids
As for basketball, you don't have room to talk, Somerset is 36-72 over the past 4 years and haven't been to the Regional Tournament since 2007/08

Really, well I guess 10 games is all Estill can expect to play. However, that isn't how they base rushing leaders for the year. So in fact, Estill did not lead the entire state in rushing in any of the last 3 years as you claimed. The leaders are based on the entire season, not 10 games. You are flat our wrong about Estill getting nothing from Somerset, I saw the emails. If you don't have the athletes to run an offense then why run it? I know poor coaching. When you don't have the horses you adjust your style, you don't try to force your style on kids that can't play that way.
As for playing Somerset, your are being misinformed. I saw the emails, Somerset offered to play Estill, Garrard, Wayne, Russell County, and Casey County from last season--all declined.
Since you mentioned basketball, how did Estill fare against Somerset this season? Keep in mind Somerset had 5 upperclassmen on their team

And if that Offense didn't work then why was Estill in the playoffs 6 of the 11 years Jones was Coach? Why did they beat #3 Russell 35-14 in 2003, why did they lay a 77-6 beating on Powell County in 2003. Estill doesn't have the players like they did in 2008 and to be honest I don't know if they ever will but everyone seems to be all hyped up over the players we have returning and coming in from Middle School so hopefully 2012 is better than 2011. Like I said I talked to the Head Man, The Assistants, The School Administrators and they said they got nothing from Somerset, if they did get something from Somerset, how could they play they had their schedule already filled out, not sure exactly why we had Rockcastle and Walton-Verona on their. Estill's 2009 & 2010 Schedule's wasn't Jones', Stuff happened Jones resigned and they hired Coach Luttrell from Williamsburg Area, he had to resign due to health reasons and they re-hired Jones and he had to stick with the Schedule he had. Estill did adjust their style last year, they ran most of the time but they passed more than they had the years before and this year is totally different, not sure exactly what it's called

4 teams from each district make it each season. Districts only have 4-6 teams in them, even under the 4 class system. If you can only make it to the playoffs in 6 out of 11 seasons you are amongst the worst programs in the state. Look at your offense. When was Powell County EVER a power. Your numbers are from 9 years ago, again how has Estill done the last 3 seasons? I posted the numbers. We both know why the Engineers didn't play Somerset this season 131-37.

2002 - 5 Team District
2003 - 6 Team District
I'm sure if that was the case, Estill wouldn't have been playing Breathitt County, 133-54 against the Bobcats in 3 season's, So you can come up with another excuse besides that. I'm telling you Estill got nothing from Somerset. And since when did the Coaches start showing everyone that isn't a Coach because last I checked you wasn't a Coach, their emails.
Why do you bash Estill so much? Do you see me or another Estill fan get on here or even say anything about Somerset? No!

Lets end all the "RUMORS" Hopkins is staying never thought about leaving BC he is working very hard and being a Leader, BC had 5 Seniors last year 4 started all 5 will be missed, BC has a great group of kids returning the District is wide open for who ever wants it, BC was picked 5th in District last year and finished 2nd the kids are working hard to finish what they started....
