PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg worked its way back into the win column over the weekend, defeating visiting Cordia 79-22 on Saturday at the Fieldhouse.

Saturday night’s game yielded a milestone for one Prestonsburg player. Prestonsburg senior center Cassie Burchett paced Prestonsburg with 21 points and 21 rebounds. The Prestonsburg senior shot 75 percent from the field, connecting on 9-of-12 attempts. Burchett also pulled down her 1,000th career rebound during the win.

Prestonsburg shot 58.6 percent (34-of-58) from the field. The Lady Blackcats were 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

Prestonsburg was 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from the foul line.

Prestonsburg halted a four-game losing streak. The Lady Blackcats hadn’t won since defeating Piarist School 72-43 on Feb. 2.

Kristian Waugh joined Burchett in double figures, scoring 20 points for the Lady Blackcats. Catie Burchett also reached double digits, scoring 12 points for Prestonsburg in the win.

Allison Hall and Caitlin Kidd both just missed double figures, delivering nine points apiece.

Tiffany Meadows and Madison Rainey rounded out the Prestonsburg scoring with six and two points, respectively.

Prestonsburg controlled the glass, grabbing 47 total rebounds.

Earlier in the season, Prestonsburg dismantled Cordia 84-36.

The Lady Blackcats will host Magoffin County for a regular-season finale this Saturday. Prestonsburg will play South Floyd on Tuesday in the opening round of the 58th District Tournament at Allen Central’s J.E. Campbell Arena.
