Jacob Jett’s 14 points and 10 rebounds led Heath to the victory and into the All “A” semifinals for the first time since 1994. Drew Winkle added 13 points for the Pirates from Paducah. West Carter missed 13 of its first 14 shots and found itself in an early 11-point hole that it never escaped. The Comets were led by Dustin Black’s 12 points. Big man Derek Lawson had 4 points and 11 rebounds for West Carter.

Heath Advances, Webster Falls at All "A"

FRANKFORT, KY - Heath knocked off Betsy Layne 47-45 in the first round of the boys' Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic on Thursday morning at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Chase Bradley's layup with 22 seconds left was the game winner for the Pirates as they beat the defending champions.

Betsy Layne's Peyton Case had a chance to tie it but he missed the front end of the bonus with seven seconds left.

Drew Winkle led Heath with 16 points and Jacob Jett had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Pirates, who are in the quarterfinals for the second year in a row. Betsy Layne was led by Case's 17 points and five rebounds.

Heath will play West Carter Friday at 4 pm.

Derek Lawson had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead West Carter past Webster County 61-51 Thursday morning.

West Carter built a 21-6 lead midway through the second quarter, but Webster County rallied to within one point on two occasions in the second half.

The Trojans missed a shot to take the lead early in the fourth quarter. The Comets then pulled out to a nine-point lead and won their 19th game of the season.

Webster County was led by Jacob Scott's 21 points.
