Breathitt 57 - Hazard 34
#1
Final...

Long time..

Breathitt has been a problem for hazard the 3 or 4 years.
#2
wow, never saw that coming. thought bobcats would win but didnt think hhs wouldnt show up.
#3
Hazard - 1/15 from 3..
#4
wow, did olinger play???
#5
Nope.. Olinger isn't going to play.. Hurts bad.
#6
wow, yes it does hurt bad. how did the brashear kid play? Thought he would help hhs some. This looks bad since wolfe just beat breathitt, may be a long season for hhs.
#7
IMO Breathitt still is one of the top 3 in the 14th

Bad loss.. They happen but without Olinger hazard will fall from about #3 to #5 or #6..

If Breathitt had played the whole game against Wolfe like they played tonight they would have beat Wolfe 30+. I was at the game and Hazard kept it close til halftime, 22-16, but Wes Noble took over in the 3rd quarter and it was over by middle of the 3rd. Coach Holland basically threw in the towel with a minute and change left in the 3rd by pulling BJ Combs and not putting him back in but they were down 20+ at that point. This Breathitt team can be good if they play like this every night.

When Wes plays like he did tonight he is as good as any player in this region. Breathitt's D also looked really good tonight taking Hazard out of their game plan and making BJ Combs a non factor in the game.

Going to be a good season for the Bobcats if Coach Fugate can keep them playing like they did tonight.

He was a non factor in the game. Played some minutes off the bench. Had a couple rebounds and maybe 4 or 5 points. Will probably look better against other teams but Breathitt kept Fraley on him who is as big as Brashear.

Anybody have stats??

What I remember from the post game radio on the way home. Breathitt was led by Wes Noble with19 pts and 12 reb. BJ Combs led Hazard with 9 pts. Breathitt outscored Hazard 36-15 in the paint. Breathitt had 6 TO's to 17 for Hazard.

This one kinda has me speechless!! What happened?

Way to go Bobcats!!! Great win for a great person and great coach in Coach Fugate! Keep it up Bobcats

Hazard looked very bad tonight, but stayed in the game the first half when they were in the 2-2-1 three qtr look and made Breathitt play slow. For some reason at the start of the second half, they brought more pressure and played man to man which sped Breathitt up and at that point the game was over. Breathitt looked as bad as Hazard in the 1st half. They can't play slow at all. Hazard is very slow at the guard position and took alot of bad shots. If they had played the same defense in the 2nd half as they did in the 1st, it would have been a close game. Unlike Wolfe, Hazard doesn't have the speed to run with Breathitt.

Seen this one coming....

I thought Denny would turn Breathitt around, but the loss to Wolfe had me wondering. How long has it been since Breathitt put a 20+ beating on Hazard?
#18
Wasn't expecting this one
#19
This is a big surprise!

Looks like it's gonna be a long year for the Dogs! I saw the stat of 1-15 from 3 point range. That sounds about right, and if those kids keep shooting from 26 feet, 1-15 is going to be the norm. I couldn't really tell much about the Bobcats because Hazard looked so bad. I hope both these teams get better.

On a different note, there was a nice crowd in Jackson tonight. Breathitt did honor its 1962 regional championship team, so I'm sure that added a little to it. It was nice to see a good crowd this early in the season.

Congrats Bobcats

That's What She Said Wrote:IMO Breathitt still is one of the top 3 in the 14th

Perry and Knott are #1 and 2. That's a definite.

So...
are you saying that Breathitt is better than Buckhorn and Wolfe? Wolfe just beat them the other night, then Buckhorn beat Wolfe. Buckhorn also beat Tates Creek (in Lexington) and North Laurel.

I would place Breathitt around #5 at the present time, and that's because I don't know much about Letcher or how good they will be this year.

Just from observing the Hazard players that were shooting threes,
they had neither the technique nor strength to shoot them. If
that's all they have they better find another offensive strategy
or it WILL be a long season.

Breathitt on the other hand looked very disjointed on offense,
but played so well defensively they were able to compensate, and
Noble was able to get create and get some shots. Can't say
the Bobcats looked at mid-season form, but they gave great effort.

Honestly I will say that Breathitt is better than Wolfe. Breathitt played about as bad as they can play and took Wolfe into 2 overtimes at their place.

I will have to see Breathitt play Buckhorn before I determine how those two rank. The game will be at Buckhorn so I give Buckhorn the edge in the game but Breathitt has a good chance to win if they play well.

I wouldn't say Breathitt is better than Wolfe and Breathitt looked alot better at Wolfe than they did last night. Wolfe just beat them so give Wolfe credit. I would say that it's a toos up between Wolfe, Breathitt and Buckhorn. All three are capable of beating one another. Clearly Knott and Perry are at the top of the region without a doubt. Buckhorn, Wolfe and Breathitt could be dangerous to face when they are at the top of their game.

Not taking anything away from Wolfe as they did win the game and also put up a good fight against a good Buckhorn team.

Not sure how you can come to the conclusion that Breathitt played better against Wolfe when they only played 2 quarters and part of the 1st overtime. The 1st and 4th quarters Breathitt hardly did anything at all. They did have a quick start to the 1st overtime but then they played poorly the rest of the game. I may have exaggerated in my earlier post when I said they would beat Wolfe 30+ but I still think they beat them comfortably if they play again.

I would have to disagree. I thought Breathitt played well against Wolfe, but they had no answer for Denniston and Conway. They are both much improved this year. Denniston is a load for anyone and he got Breathitt in foul trouble late in the game and that was the deciding factor. I give both teams credit. That was as entertaining a game as anyone could want and it was a shame to see either of them go home with an L. I think Wolfe and Breathitt will be better than anyone thought and I hope they don't draw each other in the district because I would like to see both of them in the region. Both could make some noise.

Wow, didn't expect this. I'll bet Hazard will improve once their football players get a few more practices in. But anyways, congrats coach Fugate and Breathitt County!
