Conner
Coach: Jim Hicks (104-123 in eight years) Last season: (11-18, lost to Ryle in district semifinals)
Key players: Sr. G Carter Byrnes, Sr. G Cody Huff
Fun fact: It wasn't so much fun for Conner, but the Cougars lost to regional champion Dixie Heights by four points in last season's opener and lost to regional runner-up Newport Central Catholic in the regular-season finale. The Cougars played eight games against the four regional semifinalists, going 0-8.
Outlook: The double-post with Tyler Hodges and Clay Robinson is gone, and so are the high expectations. The Cougars last year were voted No. 1 in the local coaches' preseason poll for the first time and had a lineup that featured three players taller than 6-3. But Conner stumbled to a 3-6 start and lost to Ryle by 22 in the district tournament. Seven seniors were lost to graduation, but senior shooter Carter Byrns remains as a piece around which to build.
