The host Yellowjackets of Central High School (9-3) cruised to victory Friday night against the visiting Corbin Redhounds (7-5) by a score of 62-7. Yellowjacket quarterback Tahj Milliken went 8-13 for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air while tailback Anthony Wales also racked up 137 yards and 3 total touchdowns in the victory. Central was really led by their defense though, which forced 6 turnovers and scored on 3 of them.

Actually made it up to this game at the last minute. Wasn't really expecting a Corbin W but man, Central's closing speed and defensive pursuit creates turnovers in bunches.
Any team hoping to beat them must be able to control the ball, eliminate turnovers and pound the rock. Of course, once you find yourself down by 2-3 scores, that plan has to be reassessed.

Someone had a thread asking "How good is Corbin?" I think you just got your answer.

Corbin need not feel alone in this score, 98% of the 3a teams that have played central, have felt the same wrath. Only one loss in 3a since 07. I would say the central fans will tell they would like to have another crack at that one. corbin was a 2 seed and won a game to earn the right to play central. I say central has the bullseye on their back and salute the team that has the horses and the guts to bring them down.

Central actually struggled until Wales took the game over.
From the radio it sounded like he might have sit the first qtr.

There used to be a sign in the Ossie Burch Field House that said "Tradition Never Graduates" They may have to rethink that one.....it may transfer though. I expected a Central win but I never envisioned a dog whipping (pardon the pun) like the one the Redhounds got.

When you have years like this, your tradition goes away.. Corbin better get moved back down in 2 A.. Corbin radio announcers said it best lastnight.. " Corbin has know business being in 3A, we can't compete at this level."

They did not seem to mind when they were in the weakest disrict, in the weakest region, in the weakest semi-state, in the weakest class of all the classifications. Now what they used to use a tool to acquire certain players can now be used by other schools to acquire athletes.
I know!!!! Maybe if they let the Knox County kids go to their rightful school in Knox County, they can get back down to the level of 2A!!! I guess Corbin is in a NO WIN situation.
They have to understand that they are now playing football at another level and the coaches and players are going to have to elevate their level of play instead of whining about it.

Corbin's defense played well in the first half, held really should have been 7-7 at the half. Corbin's offense could not do anything, Central was stacking the box and Corbin's passing game was very ineffective this year and could not make teams pay for doing this. The offense was directly responsible for 5 or 6 of Central's touchdowns.
Corbin will be a top 10 team in 3A football every year, but in the watered down 6 class system in place, not sure what that means. They have to get some of the "rougher" kids out to play as those type of kids kind of get weeded out now.

Sadly this is the complete truth.
Dont get me wrong, ill cheer for Corbin and even Wburg to do well in football.
However, Corbin has gotten a long so easy for years now in the really weak 2A district until reality smacked them in the mouth in a form of Bell County and Central. The recprical agreement is ridicolous, i which Whitley would also end theres.
Until Corbin realizes the road to the state semis isnt going to be handed to them anymore, and that Jewell's times is up and has been, they will struggle.

I was hoping the Redhounds would win but congrats to Central.

Did our radio guys really say this?
All classes seem to be ruled by a few schools. Bell Co is now is one of those schools. Most of us in the mountains hope to crack into that level every once in a while. Our district is still not very good with the exception of Bell (And our #3 beat the other's #2). The Redhounds seemed to have problems this year, but we're not quitting. We'll suit up and try again next year.

I listened to the entire game and I never heard the radio crew from Corbin say, "We can't compete at this level." They did say it was going to be harder to compete at this level. I know the radio guys and I can't believe that they would ever say anything about not being able to compete at the 3A level or that we had no business in that class. I didn't hear that at all.
