East Jessamine at Conner 5A
#1
Who wins and Why
#2
Conner.
#3
No gimme game here. Conner should win, but I think East Jess can hang around long enough to possibly have the chance to win it late.
#4
Going with Conner. East Jessamine has simply fallen apart.
#5
Conner 31-14
#6
With rhe loss of Cameron Thomas for EJ, Conner should win this game, but if he is back then this will be a toss up, I would have to take EJ with Cameron Thomas.

I agree and disagree with the above statements. I got to see EJHS play the last 2 weeks while visiting and I can sum this up:

1. The coaches have not prepared at game time and can't make adjustments.
2. The loss of Thomas was bad but there are several good athletes to carry on.

When a team loses its "star" player and falls apart it is a sure sign that the coaching staff is not capable.

I understand EJHS lost another game last night. I have not seen Conner play and don't know anything about them but I am taking Conner based on the play calling I witnessed over 2 weeks.

Wow. Sounds like you should apply to take over play calling duties. See how that works out for you. East relied on Thomas for a lot. One of the best backs in Kentucky. There is some talent, but not a lot that is older.

Conner - 31
East Jessamine - 18

Conner by 2 TD, Conner has a good running game that goes along with a good passing game, plus they are fundamentally sound with their tackling and blocking...

any word on thomas kid? If he plays im going with EJ one of the best backs in KY if not the best!!

How on earth can someone 'visiting' for 2 weeks make those type of statements? Especially since those two games were the first two without Thomas? I'm not really sure how you see 'not prepared at game time' from the stands while visiting? They didn't just lose a solid player...this kid was averaging over 300 yards from scrimmage and 4 TDs a game when he went down.

This sounds less like a 'visitor' and more like someone with an agenda hiding behind an anonymous post.

I agree with Bubba22 if The thomas kid is back 100% East Jessamine will win. If not Conner probably takes it.

You are correct, I do have an agenda. I am an assistant coach/recruiter from a small college in GA and happened to grow up here and graduated from UK. This is one of my my recruiting areas also and I am looking at a couple of kids from EJHS. I have seen several games they have played this season on DVD and two live; vs West Jessamine and vs Anderson County. Thomas is a great athlete and maybe one of KY's best running backs and my post was not meant to discredit him in any way. The mark of a good coaching staff is when the team can win without their star player and Thomas was that guy. What I saw in person in those two games were: A.) No solid game plan and no adjustments B.) Coaches panicking because they weren't prepared C.) An Offensive line getting blown out and a Defensive line getting pushed around D.) A running team desperately trying to throw the football without success E.) Inability to stop the pass, defensively F.) 2 losses that sank their season

Some of these are not things you can easily see on film, but it is apparent when you are standing alongside the fence and hear everything that comes out of the coaches' mouths. It was pure and simple chaos and the play calling was comical.

I find it humorous that folks on this web board would call me out for making a couple of comments. They were fair and honest assessments. At least I am not an armchair QB on here making predictions with no knowledge. You guys crack me up.

Enjoy the playoffs.

I agree with GACATFAN on a couple comments and disagree with a few as well.

In terms of the coaches not having a gameplan, I disagree. The offensive gameplan for ANY team outside of the Trinity's and Highlands of the world has to be modified when your opponents are putting 9/10 in the box in both games and daring you to throw the ball. East has been predominantly a running team out of the Wing T for years now. They led the state in rushing in all classes last year for crying out loud.

Without Thomas, you have very young, inexperienced backs getting their first Varsity playing time in their careers. East is not a passing team, and will not be a passing team this year. This is proven by the fact that their QB for the season has 4 TD passes and 19 INTs. However, to get 9 out of the box, going into Gun and trying to throw it around a bit is sometimes what you have to do. East knew that the lack of a QB was a huge issue for the team going forward and the loss of Thomas has proven this over the last few games.

In the West Jessamine game, there were a couple of factors for the loss. First, West ran an offense that they hadn't shown all year. They were a Pistol team all year long and then against East, ran the I and Power-I and nickel and dimed them down the field and played ball control/keep away. Coach Heasley deserves credit for his gameplan. I will say there is absolutely no excuse to lose to an 0-8 WJ team. East should have won the game, but weren't mentally ready to play.

The team was shellshocked too because it was the first game they played without Thomas. I don't know if I can agree that the coaches were panicking. When your offense turns the ball over 5 times, it's tough to win no matter who you are. Against Anderson County, you had three sophomores with little to no Varsity experience playing in the secondary due to injuries and still no Thomas. Coaches knew that it the pass defense was suspect. Anderson ran for 30 yards in the game, yet threw for 360. I don't necessarily call that getting whipped up front.

Here's the point. When you have a kid that is that good, and 90% of your offense runs through him and has been for 2 years, I can see it being rather difficult to just change on the fly in a week's time and expect the same results that you've been seeing. I will agree, however, that the offense being designed for one player to determine the offensive success completely for the team is a major mistake by the offensive coaches. Main issue: They let the kids down by not having anything to fall back on if Thomas got hurt.

Side note: East's starting Guard (a position they are thin at as well) was lost for the season with a broken arm. Injuries have dessimated this team this year. East looked really promising at the beginning of the year, and some would argue that they gave an undefeated Franklin County team that could go to Finals their toughest test all season. Losing Thomas killed them on both sides of the ball.

I think for the future, however, youth getting this experience is only going to help them and also will help the coaching staff assess where to go offensively so this doesn't happen again. This is a very YOUNG team with a large sophomore class which could be really good in a couple years. Good luck to them down the road.

Riiiiiight, that makes perfect sense. A small college coach from Georgia visiting East Jessamine two weeks in a row. Without contacting their coaches. Without coming to look at Cameron Thomas. And then getting on a message board to blast the same coaches that he would need to help in recruiting these other players. Its too bad that Georgia doesn't have any talent to recruit in their own backyard and you have to drive 6 hours to recruit at a 1-9 vs 5-5 game.

I stand corrected, you are obviously not a disgruntled parent whose son isn't getting enough touches or reps, you are obviously a knowledgeable small college coach just trying to find his way in the tough world of recruiting. I salute your work ethic!
#17
Did anyone find out if Cameron Thomas was playing, I really enjoyed watching this kid.
#18
Conner 35-14.
#19
If Cameron Thomas is back and his ACL is at least 95%, then I'll take East Jessamine in a very close one. But if he has issues with his knee and can't get outside, then I'm going with Conner by a couple TDs.

Thomas is a stud, 1600 yards in 7 games
