Private Schools in KHSAA Playoffs
#1
This is something that should be discussed within KHSAA. Some of these schools "recruit" kids, and we all know it. And have done it for years. I for one would love to see two different playoffs. One for private, and one for public schools. We all know that it is virtually impossible to compete against some of these elite private schools that continue to recruit the best of the best from larger city schools. Just wish KHSAA wouldn't bury their heads in the sand and ignore the FACTS.
#2
and if that doesn't work we could try redistribution of points to make it fair!
#3
I've always wondered, are there even enough private schools in KY for them to have their own class?

Really hasn't this been beaten to death.

there is alot of public schools that recruit players.
having a playoffs like that will take away from football in kentucky.
everyone need to grow a pair and get over it. it don't matter if its a public or private school. the better team will win 9 out 10.

Wow.

People say that schools like CovCath recruit because they get kids from all over, but, if they only had kids only came there for sports, then they'd be in a 2a or so. We had a lot of good athletes in my grade at CovCath, but most kids just went there for the atmosphere and/or academics.

Furthermore, I was recruited by Beechwood and Dixie to no end, but no one from CCH ever recruited me.

You want to say a school like Highlands doesn't recruit just because they're a public school? Who are the two biggest stars from Highlands? Jared Lorenzen and Derek Smith, right? I love Lorenzen- he's a good friend of mine- but he's from Edgewood (or might be the border of Erlanger, but it's basically the same thing), which is a half an hour away from Highlands when there's absolutely no traffic, you hit every light, and you don't stop on any tutrn. Smith is from Bellevue, which is closer, but it's still not in Highlands' district.

Agreed
Done both (coached public and private). The public have way more advantages on a whole than the privates

Be sides Newbie started the thread. Maybe a "sticky" needs to be put on the top since we need the patience of Job to rehash this topic

Man you are clueless, are you driving a horse and buggy from Edgewood to Ft Thomas? Grew up in Ft Thomas and lived in Edgewood for 6 years; It is 15 mins tops. And Lorenzen was from a divorced family with one family member living in Ft Thomas. Would you send your child to Scott or Highlands if you had the choice. And I am pretty sure Smith was from Silver Grove, which is one of the worst acedemic schools in the state, so I give a big pat on the back to his parents for sending him to a good academic and sports school. Highlands does not have to recruit, their great academics and great sport programs does all the recruiting they need. It is programs that are not winning that need to recruit, not the Highlands, Trinitys, X's, Boyles, Beechwood's, ect.

Besides Scott wanted to play Jarod as an offensive lineman. Although Scott was good enough for his brother and sister but that's another tale

Just another ignorant post. Smith never lived a day in Bellevue. He was from Silver Grove. He grew up playing in football and basketball in Ft. Thomas with Ft. Thomas kids. Not a lot of football played by Silver Grove High School.

Lorenzen's parents were divorced. One lived in Edgewood, the other lived in Ft. Thomas. He chose to live and go to school in Ft. Thomas. Looks like that choice worked out for him. He surely wouldn't have been as successful if he wasted away over at team that loses playoff games as consistent as say a team like Covcath.

And still lives in Ft Thomas, and has kids in the Ft Thomas school system.

Not when it comes to scholarship $ tuition manipulation. There's so many kids at the parochial schools that don't pay the full tuition it's sickening. It even says in their ads that you shouldn't let money be the deciding factor. How many kids parents are cutting the grass, trimming the bushes, and sweeping the parking lot for a break on the tuition costs? If you're a good athlete, but can't afford to attend the private school, don't worry about it. There's a bingo to run, or some garbage cans to empty. They can work out any deal they want for tuition. Afterall, it's a private school.

Tuition assistance is available for all students, athletes and non-athletes. I have many friends who kids go to catholic schools, do not play sports and get tuition assistance. Why is this sickening?

Kind of like the tuition assistance that is given to the public school kids when they pay out of district cost?

nky Wrote:Kind of like the tuition assistance that is given to the public school kids when they pay out of district cost?

I don't know how much tuition is to Highlands. I think it's about $4k to $5k. I could be wrong, but I don't think Highlands can give assistance.

I don't necessarily think it's wrong. I think if a kid is catholic, or even a non-catholic, and wants to go to a catholic school, it should be allowed with assistance. My problem is that the scholarships/assistance and the like can be used to steer kids to certain schools that the scholarship givers support.
An example, strictly for example purposes, not based on facts, would be something like a kid at St. Mary deciding on Newcath or Brossart. Say he doesn't have a lot of cash. Suddenly he gets the good citizen memorial $1000 scholarship to NewCAth. Now Newcath has an advantage of getting the kid over Brossart. Maybe the scholarship is deserving. Maybe it's because he's 6'9or maybe it's because he runs like a jaguar.
