Why is southern not in the playoffs??

Southern just did not have enough 8th grade players left to make a run in the playoffs.
Southern did finish the season 9 - 2 with wins over Farnsley and North Laurel and their only loses coming to Northern Pulaski and Bowling Green, both #1 seeds in their region. They actually had a better record and more points than several teams who are in the playoffs.
The 8th grade team finished the season with only 12 players remaining after injuries. During the year, several of the better 7th grade players, including the QB, played in the 8th grade games. With the Southern 7th grade team a potential favorite to win the state, those 7th graders were not going to be able to play in the 8th grade playoff games.
It is a disappointing middle school ending for some really good football players but a couple of those guys have championship rings from playing on the 8th grade Division 1 Championship team from last year and I am sure we will hear from a few of them again at Southwestern High School.
