I love ya Runitupthegut, but I have to disagree with moving Hazard over Holy Cross. I know Hazard did good competing with Breathitt the way they did,but they are 2-2 with a lose to 4A. Holy Cross is 5-1 with a win over 5A. Truly,Hazard looked better in their loss but I just don't think you can go over Holy Cross. They played way above their class and came out with the win. Now,I can live Raceland over Harlan. Their offense didn't show up against Leslie. I don't know what the problem was but I believe it is a mental thing. They'll get it back together. So I'm ok with 2-4 being ranked over us for now cause thats what the Dragon's looked like.

lol i agree with you, youll have to take that up with panther thunder.
Hes currently doing the 1A rankings.
I can see why he would choose harlan over holy cross as hes also personally seen harlan when they played pikeville.
Im sure he will take everything you said into consideration. I also believe your one of the top posters on following 1A football on this site. If panther thunder is cool with it, you and him could console with each other and share ideas about the rankings each week. Two heads are better than one, and i know youve put the time in on this site enough for me to trust and respect everything you say and know that your very unbiased.

Hazard has been impressive against opponents who have been doing good things. Hazard man handled LCA in a game I got to watch. LCA proceeded to destroy Frankfort who is considered a top 10 Class A team by many. Played well/ controlled the game for a while against a very good Breathitt County team. Holy Cross has won games against a few bad teams and one good team and has lost to a good team. Hazard does have 2 loses, but both to pretty good teams. Somerset is ahead of DeSales in this poll so those losses are a virtual wash. I feel Breathitt is better than J-town, JMO. It is a fluid situation. We will continue to learn more and more each week. Hazard just was more impressive this week via many factors.

In regards to Harlan/Raceland, both are very even from what I have seen personally. Judging from other scores, both have been impressive and confusing. This week was confusing. But, I gave Raceland the nod going up against Lawrence, but the two are virtually interchangeable and are very capable of flipping from week to week.

But I can see your points, hopefully my explanation is sufficient to help you see where I am coming from. Like RIUTG said, all feedback is appreciated. Everyone has different views and the best polls are the ones that use all facts and views to come to a conclusion.

Class A is really, really bad in relative terms outside of the top 3 or 4. 5-8 are respectable. 8-12 ehh. 12-the rest are miserable.

Im glad to see Madisonville is starting to get some respect from the Eastern part of the state. They are a very solid football team that I believe will also be shown some love by the AP polls this week. Hopefully they can keep it rolling and finish the season 9-1 with a home playoff game and make a nice run this year.

I've been watching them, and they're probably still underrated in our threads. They may be the #5 team, but the only Top 10 4A team that lost this week other than Knox Central was CC to Highlands (in a better than expected fashion). So, I didn't want to jump Madisonville in front of teams that won their games. I do wish we had a common game between at least one opponent to bridge the gap between East-West.

Good job on coordinating these rankings!!
#19
Thats understandable Laker20, I believe the statement they made against Owensboro this week opened alot of eyes. Hopefully they can do the same against Lone Oak week 9 and get home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Its been a long time since Madville has had a team thats capable of making it to the big game. I also agree that bridging the gap in ranking east-west in all classes is difficult do to the difference in opponents. Maxpreps has the Maroons ranked #20 in the state overall and #7 in class 4A at this point in the year.

4. Boyle County (4-2)- (57-0 Win @ Taylor County)

9. Franklin-Simpson (5-1)- (55-21 Win vs Russellville)
10. Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-1)- (46-0 Win @ Owensboro)

Just for comparison. Here are this weeks Massey Rankings for 4A

1. Highlands
2. Covington Cathollic
3. Boyle County
4. Lexington Catholic
5. Ashland Blazer
6. Rockcastle County
7. Franklin-Simpson
8. Madisonville-North Hopkins
9. Russell County
10. Johnson Central

Same 10 teams, just sorted out a bit differently. So perhaps, everything is starting to line up in 4A.

Everything is starting to line up with the AP polls, Massey, Max Preps, Bluegrass Preps, and Bluegrass Rivals in 4A but with the district games a little movement is bound to happen. I know the East is tough but I believe Madisonville and Franklin Simpson from the West may fit somewhere higher in the rankings when its all sorted out.

I agree. Franklin-Simpson is one of the games that I'm missing from our schedule this year. It would be nice if these two teams could work out a home-away.

With ACS having a down year this year, I think Madisonville, Franklin-Simpson, and Lone Oak are the three teams that stand out in 4A from the west. IMO Madisonville is a notch better than FS, and FS is a notch better than LO. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Warren East as well.

I think the eastern half of 4A is much deeper with quality team. With 8 of the top 10 coming from the four eastern districts there will be some losses moving forward (Rock vs Russell, Ashland vs John. Centr., Boyle vs. Lex Cath., etc). Madisonville could (should) win out the regular season. So they are almost bound to end up 6th or 7th. Franklin-Simpson should only have Warren East to worry about. The only team from the other two districts that I feel have Top 10 potential is North Oldham.

I believe if you take Highlands out of 4A, it would make that class WIDE OPEN.
On any given night i think Lex Cath, Boyle Co, and Cov Cath could all beat each other.
Maybe Highlands even falls into that category after there close call with cov cath

Will Madisonville's off week hurt them in the rankings

No, their spot is pretty secure. They may very well be underrated now.

if the Maroons can beat LO, this will be there best year of making it to state since 1988 or 89 cant remember ,we got beat in the semis against shelby county 6-2( we crossed plain for td,but refs said no) and shelby county went on and won state..

I was paying attention to Madisonville well before last week. I'm probably one of the few people on here that understands Mt. Football and Western Ky football, being as that I'm stuck in the middle and have spent many Friday's watching both.

Lone Oak is still a question to me. They started off slow, but they seem to have their traditional passing game working pretty effectively. I'm looking forward to next weeks match up to see if we have 3 teams out of the west to consider for Top 10. There's a lot to learn over the next 2-weeks in 4A.
