hold back in highschool?
#1
if injured and out for season could you hold back 2 regain year of eligablity?
#2
yes, if the khsaa gives you another yr. It has to be special circumstances to do this though. I remember yrs ago that jody noble from BUCKHORN was granted an extra yr because he had cancer. i was really glad they did because he was a special player. He didnt come back as the same player but he did get another yr.

Wish I would have done this my Jr. year!
#4
^me too!!!

It is usually from a catastrophic circumstance that keeps you out of schook, i.e. a car wreck or chemotherapy in the mentioned case. If you mess up your ankle or knee you are not going to get an extra year of eligibility. But if you are like the kid from Ohio County or Terrance Smith from Lewis County & are in a bad car wreck and out of school for 8 months, they will file a hardship case and more than likely approve.
#6
^ Correct. It has to be catostrophic

And it was the right decision. Good call by the KHSAA.

What? Are you talking about in High School?? This is ridiculous!!! Why is this so widely accepted in Kentucky????? NO CHILD SHOULD BE HELD BACK UNLESS IT IS FOR ACADEMICS!!!! As much as I love Sports, it comes second to Education... What kind of message are we sending our kids by holding them back for SPORTS?!?!?!
#12
^ I could not agree more!
#13
yeah i feel you should be granted another year of eligibility if you are injured and unable to play. Something like being red-shirted in college.

Probably the same message parents are sending their kids when they "shop" them around to different schools for strictly "Athletic" purposes.

I think the kid is saying if something happens like an INJURY or SICKNESS and u lose a yr of sports, he is not saying he wants to holdback like all the other kids do.

What if your holding to your child back to have a shot at playing college ball.

I'm not talking about big time D1 ball.

Just a chance to maybe go to a small school around here on a basketball scholarship.

IMO it is up to what the parents want to do. If I have a kid that has a shot at playing basketball and turning it into a college degree I will think long and hard about giving them that extra year.

You better do it before they are "PROMOTED" from the 8th grade, cause once that happens they have four years to play unless there is something catastrophic. That is basic KHSAA rules, read the rule book and don't be a rebel.

I agree with u zaga. That should b what sports are all about. We as parents and coaches seem to 4get that sometimes. I would 100% holdback my child for a all expense paid degree. No doubt in my mind!!!!

It would be during grade school of course.

IMO you can still hold a kid back for sports and still be doing it for their best academic interest.

Well, my kid will be staying back at least a year if he indeed does become the baller that I intend to shape him up to be.

With zaga_fan on this one.

But I don't intend on figuring out some crazy way to break the system of highschool.. It will be done in the early-mid years of grade school.

i believe that if a child is young in highschool that they should be held back, especially if you play sports.
