No stats yet, but he only played in the first half. He threw a couple poor looking screen passes and lateral passes, but had a pass to Shehan that was a thing of beauty (it was about a 80 yd TD reception, which was a great pass and supper catch). Western was out of the game after the first minute; they looked slow, lazy, and lost.

Last season, he had trouble with the screen. He threw some good ones against Dixie. Probably some mechanical problems.

I heard he had over 300 yards passing in the 1st half.

Shocker! How did Western hold the Birds to ONLY 56! I guess the defensive effort to hold the Birds under 100 kept them from being able to have any gas left for offense.......

The 83 yard pass play for a TD, reminded me of the Lorenzen days. DB's play tight coverage for 35 or 40 yards and then figure nobody can throw the ball that far and break off. On this play, the ball was in the air for 60 yards, hitting Sheehan on the dead run.

Louisville Western made the trip north to David Cecil Memorial Stadium to take on the Highlands Bluebirds and the home team did not treat them friendly as they cruised to a 56-0 victory.

Highlands (3-0) raced out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Running back Jake True scored the first of three touchdowns to get the scoring started as the Bluebirds build a 49-0 halftime lead. True finished the night with 102 yards on just seven carries.

Quarterback Patrick Towles continued his stellar senior campaign by completing 9-of-17 passes for 304 yards and three TD strikes, including two to classmate Austin Sheehan.

The defense was equally impressive forcing five turnovers in the first half alone. It was the first time this year that the Bluebirds pitched a shutout, a feat they’ve managed five times over the past two seasons.

Up next, Highlands travels to Mason County as they look to move to 4-0.

Highlands running backs were all impressive in this one. True had his best game ever, and Harris and Seidl both looked great. Short passing game was out of sync all night, but Sheehan, Turner, and Towles were clicking otherwise. The defense was pretty scary, causing several fumbles on the few passing plays that Western tried, limiting the run and laying some big hits. After the first quarter flew by, the second quarter dragged on because the refs seemed to flag every play. Western looked stunned after the first quarter, but kept pounding away. They had an injury or two that hurt them, #4 (no roster to refer to,) running back hobbled early by an ankle injury, but stuck around, only to limp off later and not return. They'd be a good matchup for Dixie. Overall the game left us wondering about the state of 4A in Kentucky.

Looks like the 4A and 6A championships are already decided. Congrats to the Birds. Really thought Western would make a better game out of it.

I wouldn't call them decided. Strange things happen in high school football. I've seen it too many times to be overconfident.
I also thought Western would be more of a challenge. That idea went away pretty quickly last night. Highlands looked pretty good and the strides they're making week to week have been impressive to see. Looking forward to Mason County next week. I've never been to a game there and it's always good to experience Friday night lights from another perspective.

If Western is the best the other half of 4A has to offer then the state championship game will be the day after Thanksgiving in Lexington or Boyle County.
