Game Report Pike Central 38 Greenup County 00
#1
Greenup County opened the 2011 tackle football season by hosting a very good team in Pike Central. The Hawks have a talented offensive ball team and as the night went on they would dominate this one, easily.
The Musketeers would give their fans something to cheer about with 10:36 left in the opening quarter when Dustin Linthicum, their 6-5 169 pound multi talented player would convert a third and long giving his team a big first down. Later on the drive the Hawks defense would make a stand when 5-8-210 pound Cody Little would get to Linthicum holding him to zero yards, with 9:55 showing on the first quarter clock. The home team got a nice catch from Travis Murphy 6-0-160 split end but after being hit by Justin Smith,6-0-195 free safety he would fumble the ball and the defense would pounce on it.
7:20 showed on the clock when Alan Boggs 6-1-200 would connect with Cory Shouse,6-1-195 for a gain of about seventeen. Boggs would drop back to pass with 6:18 left in the quarter and he would find Wes Pugh 6-0-175 wide open for a fifty-four yard touchdown. A two point conversion by Justin Smith would make the score,8-0 Central.
With 4:20 left in the quarter Greenup County would get their 2nd first down on the ensuing drive when Brandon Marsh would run for twelve yards. Facing a fourth and three and looking for another first down the Musketeers gave the ball to Joey Aeh 5-9-180 but he was hit hard by Justin Runyon 6-2-280 holding him short of the first down marker.
When Central got the ball back they needed just one play to go the seventy two yards needed for their next score. The play was a long pass from Boggs to Pugh, who beat his guy by ten yards. Cody Trivette would convert the two point conversion, putting the Hawks up,160- with 2:01 still left in the opening quarter.
Travis Murphy got a nice return on the ensuing kickoff and if not for a nice play by Trivette he might have scored. With 10:24 left in the half Greenup would get a much needed first down on a pass interference call. Nathan Sowards was wide opened with 9:48 showing on the clock but he let a nicely thrown pass go off of his hands and fall harmlessly to the ground. Later in the drive with 5:07 left in the half Jeffery Williams would go right and pick up twenty seven yards giving the home fans something to cheer about. The drive would end a few plays after that giving the ball back to the potent Central offense.
The combo of Boggs and Pugh would strike again, with 3:55 left in a half. This time the result would be a sixty one yard score. A two point run would fail leaving the score,22-0 Central.
The NEWARKCATHOLICFAN hit of the game with 3:37 left in the half, when Cory Shouse lit up Linthicum, who still managed to pick up four yards on the play.
The Hawks defense continued to flex their muscles and with 3:03 left on the clock Trivette would get to Linthicum for a three yard loss. Trivette looked very good in this one and at times seemed to be on a level that was unstoppable.
Jefffery Williams would sack Boggs for a seven yard loss with 1:18 left in the half.
The 2nd half started of very good for Central, with 11:43 showing on the clock Boggs connected with Robbie Hobkins for a long gain.Hobkins made a nice catch and a better run on the play.
Then with 11:00 showing on the clock Boggs stepped up in the pocket avoiding some nice pressure by the defense and connected with Kolt Pruitt for a gain of nearly twenty yards. The defense would stiffen up and keep the Hawks out of the end zone giving their offense another chance to do something.
With a little over seven minutes left in the quarter Calvin Cline and Justin Runyon would combine to stop Linthicum for a short loss.
Pike Central would use the dangerous combo of Boggs and Pugh again with 6:21 left in the third quarter and this time the duo would team up for a gain of forty plus yards.
Justin Smith would run for ten yards with 5:50 showing on the clock taking the ball to the Greenup one and then fourteen seconds later he would hit paydirt from a yard out. Smith then would convert a two point run to make the score, 30-0 Central.
