Who are the best players in the 15th?
#1
Who do you think are the best players in the 15th region, by position? Outside hitters, middle hitters, right side hitters, setters, liberos/defensive specialists?

Too early to tell. But I have to give props to Blair Pack from Pikeville, she absolutely dominated Phelps the other night on the Varsity game side. 6 blocks by herself. Absolutely stuffed Phelp's attack attempts. I was impressed. She has some work to do on conditioning, but she played basketball too, so that held her back a little on the volleyball conditioning. She has really good timing on her blocks, and is a legit 6 foot tall. Haven't seen eough games to know yet who is among the tops in this region, so many new faces.

Betsy Layne and Belfry have two or three good players and I noticed Pikeville was using a Libero this year for the first time! Seemed to help them! What other schools are using a libero?

The best setter in the 15th is Jessica Hall, the setter from Paintsville.

Based on what few teams I have had the opportunity to see, there are really few outstanding players so far. As the season goes on, that should change, as some are sure to develop as everyone gets better. There are 2 really good setters--Brooke Risner from Allen Central and Jessica Hall from Paintsville.

They are, and it has had mixed results early in the season. Serve reception errors are too high for the libero they are using right now, but I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, since she has never been a libero before. Main thing they've had to work on is improving their serve errors, doing better than last year so far, but still giving points away. Their attack errors are too high also. But I think they will be just fine as the season goes on. Talented group of players, and a VERY talented JV squad developing in the wings.

I'm a fan in Floyd County, but I went looking on Max preps.com and Pikeville posts their stats there... apparently, their libero only has 15 service reception errors and has passed 65 cleanly... which is really good- 81% of the time she gets a good pass off a serve. I've heard they're a young team which means they will have more errors than others... especially if these girls don't have varsity experience, but I'm not certain if they do or not.

I think a lot of people are overlooking Ashley Castle the setter from South Floyd. She runs that team and is a great setter... my opinion is there is no setter that's better than her in the region.

That's 65 total service receptions with 15 errors. But yes, they are a young team, only one Senior, and she doesn't start. Their Freshman class is big in numbers and has a lot of potential.

Where is says 65 service receptions that's where they put successful service receptions... not the toal. So total she has 80 with 15 errors... 81%. Not bad at all!

Ahh, very good. Thanks for correcting me on that!

After watching several games over the weekend I was really impressed with the libero from Pikeville! I was told from one of the Pikeville fans she was put in as the libero after the Betsy Layne scrimmage, a position she had never played before. I got to see her play the two games at Prestonsburg Elementary between our games, like I said I was really impressed with her play and leadership! I agree with the other poster that Pikeville did look good, but has still not turned the corner and knocked of one of the big four imo, Allen Central, Betsy Layne, South Floyd or Belfry!
