I say the Tigers go 3-7 with this tough schedule. Bell & Johnson Central at home will be losses... then they have Whitley, Knox, Russell & Rockcastle away.

Have they hired a coach yet
07-20-2011, 09:12 PM
Kenny Roark is the new coach.

If i'm not mistaken Clay lost 12-14 starters on both sides of the ball. IMO it will be a rebuilding year with the schedule at hand.

That schedule has to be one of the toughest in the state. However, I still feel like the Tigers will win District. Maybe, Iâm drinking my own kool-aide but I think they have some tough kids.

Long year. Will not be fun.

Jacob Hyde Video

I don't understand the rebuilding, 3-7, and long year posts. If you guys watch that video you will understand that statement. Along with Big Hyde, he has one of the best all purpose players in the mountains in Joey Dezarn.
Going to be a very good year for the Tigers!

You lose 80 percent of your offense and you "don't understand" why you're rebuilding?

Im going to say clay wins at least games. did Jacob Hyde play last season. just didnt see his name on the tkl list on last season stats on kshaa.org

Hyde is a stud, but Dezarn is not in the same league as the guys that graduated. Granted he is a good high school player but no hooker, wilson, gilbert, reid or miller. Clay will be lucky to win two.

Tigers 7-3 but losing to some good teams.

I can't wait until the Season starts. Going to be a VERY good year for the tigers!!!!

Clay will find a way to be competitive. I don't think they can replace what left last year but Hyde is a good piece to build on. He is excellent for sure.
Still, he can't run it, throw it, or catch it so he will need help. I'd say 6-4 is a good season for them in 2011.

Might be best defensive lineman out of the Mountains since Jeremy Caudill. Anyone know his 40 time?
08-04-2011, 10:13 PM
Jeremy Caudil was a beast and Jacob would be honored to be mentioned in the same breath as him. As far as 40 time I think it is around the mid 5's. However, he is as strong as a bull. check out this highlight of Hyde.
Also, a couple names to look out for this year for the Tigers. Joey Dezarn, Zac McGeorge, Zac Kemp, Corey Corum, Josh Burchfield, Christian McNeal.
Even though they lost a lot from last year, I feel like Clay County has turned a corner on football. It's only going to get better.

I had high hopes, but after watching a couple of practices Clay just does not have any depth. They have some decent players besides Hyde, Corum will be a surprise. Mcneal is already known. I doubt the others will make much of a positive impact. Dezarn could be really good but stays injured and his load is just getting bigger this season.
Clay should be really be happy if they play .500 ball. I think they will win 1 game in the district.

Good luck to Clay, they will need it.
If they think Roark is the answer, all they need to do is look at the mess he left in M'boro.

Looks like the mess is already starting, heard today that the school board is extremely upset with Roark and the coaching staff over an issue with the players and the coaches lack of control. It appears he may even have encouraged it. Could have the school board in hot water.
Hope this is only a rumor, but came from a credible source at the board.

Clay will have your average season..6-4 or 5-5
08-09-2011, 06:53 PM
How are the Tigers looking?
08-10-2011, 01:26 AM
If Clay County has talent they will have a pretty good season. Coach Roark is a great Coach and he will find ways to win. If Clay has a running QB and some good backs and Roark runs the same o-fense he did at Middlesboro they will be just fine. Starting d-fense for breathitt that was by far the toughest o-fense i every played against. That split back field/some what like a wing t but not a true wing t, was almost unstopable. It just seems like he's always a step ahead of you. Also that confusion defense pretty much speaks for it self it confuses the hell out of you.

Going to be a long season for the Tigers. If they win 3, 4 games they will over achieve. I see 2 games in the W column.

Funny thing is, this is the longest pre-season thread I've ever seen about Clay County...seems like there is a lot of interest in a team that is supposed to win only 2 games. I think there may be some nervous people in a few neighboring counties. Fact of the matter is, nobody knows what Clay is bringing to the table this year, including me! I guess we'll get a glimpse tomorrow night!

There has been excitement around the program the last few years. Football gets much better attendence than basketball now.
AS for this years team, the line should be solid with Hyde, Mcneal, Weaver and Gray all returning starters. Dezarn is the only returning skill person, but is suffering from shin splints already so could be a long season for him. Clay will start Mcgeorge at QB, he has not played since middle school so has never taken a high school snap not even a JV snap. Corum will be the RB and should be pretty good as he is fast and strong, but has not ran the ball in high school. He is a senior and has only played his sophomore year on defense.
At receiver Kemp and Birchfield, neither has blazing speed and both lack experience.
Carr, a freshman, is a very good athlete so can help out in the backfield.
Clay also just lost their kicker.
Very little depth, so Clay can not afford to lose any of these players. Everyone else on the team are mostly freshman. Less than 30 players on the team. On top of this, we have a new coach and all new schemes on offense and defense to learn.
As I said before if Clay can go .500 this would be a great year for them. I hope for better, but sometimes you just have to be realistic.
