With no title..... Shouldn't be in the top 5 without a title....
If I was Izzo I would be talking shit. Give that man some more money.

Partially agree with the first, absolutely agree with the 2nd. Izzo should be Top 5 in salary.

^ Agreed! Izzo is fantastic at taking talent and getting the best out of them

Rick is the highest paid coach in college basketball, and I wouldnt dispute that. Had he not make the biggest mistake of his life (outside of that night at Porcinis, or however you spell it) and left UK for Boston, I have no doubt that UK would have more banners than UCLA hanging from the rafters. No doubt whatsoever. Had Rick Pitino turned down UK's offer to coach in 1989, and you all can dispute all you want, UK would STILL be reeling from those sanctions. Remember what happened to SMU's football program? SMU wasnt fortunate enough to have a Pitino guide them back from disaster. Pitino SAVED the University of Kentucky's basketball program. NOBODY in America in that era (late 80s-early 90s) could have done what he did. Not Lute Olsen, not Bob Knight, not Dean Smith, NOBODY. Pitino SAVED the program. Eddie Sutton went 13-19 the season before with 3 future NBA players (LeRon Ellis, Chris Mills, Reggie Hanson). With Hanson the only guy returning, mixed with a bunch of Kentucky boys that nobody else wanted, UK, picked dead last in the SEC, shocked everyone by going 14-14 (and beating Shaq, Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts and season top 5 LSU in one of the biggest upsets in team history)with my absolute favorite UK basketball team ever, the Bombinos. Had Dean Smith coached this team, you are looking at 6-22. Anyways, moral of the post, the game hasnt left Pitino, but the players have changed (for the worse. Players today are far, far, FAR less talented than they were 15-20 years ago). And UK fans should still be mad at him, but be grateful that he saved the program. For the record, and I will believe this til the day I die, but the '96 UK team would beat the '10 UK team by 25+ points. The '93 team would beat them that bad too. But, thats just my opinion. The correct one

^ Incredible post. And you and I think alike on this one. Too many UK fans wear glasses that were only made within the last five years and forget that there was a messiah long before Calipari. Pitino means as much to UK Basketball lore as Rupp. Had he stayed, UK would not have lost any ground and would undoubtedly would have maintained the same level of success that dUKe has had since the departure of Pitino from UK.

If Rick could actually get past the first round and beat Morehead he might deserve that much

If Rick doesn't do something in the next couple years at "little brother" then the salary will dwindle..

I actually picked that upset. Morehead actually had a good team.
09-08-2011, 02:46 PM
yeah i look for ole' ricky to turn things around there in Louisville, i mean come on hes Rick Pitino! & i'll always be a fan of his even though he is a back stabber to UK, but i still hate the cards.
09-09-2011, 02:39 PM
COACH CAL! will be after he wins this year lol
09-11-2011, 07:50 AM
The only reason people on here say Pitino is over paid is because he is at Louisville and not UK. The fact is he is a damn good coach and deserves to make some good money
09-11-2011, 06:07 PM
by far 1996 could be one of the greatest teams all time does ne1 remember us haveing 80 plus points at half?
09-12-2011, 02:13 PM
Jim B at 15th. thats wack, He deserves much more.:lame:
09-13-2011, 04:26 PM
lmao rick has 2 produce wins and championchips be4 u get paid that type of money and his recruiting classes arent that special neither
09-15-2011, 07:16 PM
Rick did get a top five recruiting class this year by the way, plus Ricks recruiting classes are not usually real high because he gets players that will stay 3-4 years, no one and done players
09-15-2011, 07:17 PM
Even when if at all Calipari wins a National Title at UK, he has to win 2 if not 3 for me to put him ahead of Rick. Rick could be a top 5 coach to ever coach the game of basketball.
09-20-2011, 04:48 PM
Now only imagine what John Wooden would've got paid in today's time if he was a coach today and winning 88 straight games

willabeast23 Wrote:lmao rick has 2 produce wins and championchips be4 u get paid that type of money and his recruiting classes arent that special neither
I think has won his fair share of games and championships and been to teh final 4's... only coach to take 3 teams the final 4! (without cheating and having them vacated)

It never was proven that Rose never took his SAT and even if he didn't, there were numerous schools recruiting him. It would have ended the same way for the rest of those schools (sans Duke as they would have gotten it swept under the rug). And Cal had no clue someone was paying Camby. As a matter of fact, Cal was the one who went to the NCAA about it.
Let's also not forget, Pitino has more NCAA violations than Calipari. 8 more violations actually.
