Valentines Day--Is It A "Hallmark Holiday"
#1
Do you think that Valentines Day is a legitimate holiday (or a day that is worth all of the trouble?)

For me--it is 100% Hallmark--designed completely for the sake of seperating me from my money.

What do you think?

Yes.. Its a money thing is all. Id say we boycott Hallmark and all these flower shops and draw up our honeys a card and pick her some fresh flowers out of the neighbors or your mamaws garden.. She will appreciate this more anyway.

I am with you, QQ. I think it has gotten a little overboard.

On a different note--some people must be a little nervous about this topic--because I figured that there would be a few more responses by now . . . . . . (but after yesterday--with my wife--I should probably be a little more careful as well).

Valentine's Day is a way for people to easily express their love or like for someone. You can take Valentine's Day any way you want.

Personally, I think Valentine's Day is definitely big business. It has become all about the money and all about how extravagant a gift you can purchase for the one you love. So many people feel compelled to go along with this. I am NOT one of them.

My husband and I are not materialistic people and we don't need big gifts to express our love for one another. We know we love each other and something from the heart means so much more.

I think a homemade gift means so much more than a store bought teddy bear or a dozen roses that will die out in a few weeks. So many people are hooked into thinking they just have spend money on V-day! Money doesnt equal love!

Very good post. I agree with not spending a ludacris amount of money on gifts. I will make a card, write something, and make a few homemade gifts. I take a ceramics class at school so my sweetheart will be getting something made from the heart. I'm not totally opposed to buying things because I have a couple of SMALL things planned but I know what they want and I am going to make something special.

Teenage couples view Valentine's Day as spending a great deal of money to outdo to next couple. I've seen boys my age spend hundreds of dollars on a ring, buy balloons that are blimp sized, and four foot tall teddy bears. The holiday is to express love, not inflate commerical businesses OR spend more than your buddy to make your girlfriend or boyfriend happy.
