Over the past 35 years or so there has been a large number of high schools formed by consolidation throughout Kentucky. I was interested in finding out what schools formed each of these consolidated schools and the year they opened.
Flat Gap HS
Oil Springs HS
Van Lear HS
Meade HS
All consolidated and formed Johnson Central HS in 1969.
Any other Info helpful.

SF, BL, and AC will cosolidate when the road is completed from Rt. 80 across mudcreek to Rt.23. wait and see. and yes Pburg will go indpendant.

Virgie and Dorton formed Shelby Valley in the early 90s...don't know the exact year. Twenty years ago there were 10 high schools in Pike Couty: Pikeville, Belfry, Mullins, Johns Creek, Phelps, Virgie, Dorton, Millard, Feds Creek, and Elkhorn City. Today there are only 6: Pikeville, Belfry, Pike Central, Shelby Valley, East Ridge, and Phelps. Consolidation has had a big change on the high schools in Pike County but it is for the best even though I miss a lot of the rivalries. I always wished that Pikeville was a county school like Prestonsburg...that would have been a powerhouse school in athletics.

I dont think it will ever get to where we have one high school in the county except for the independent ones. But I do see a couple of the schools combining into one.

Do you see schools combining in Floyd or Pike County? The only school that I could see maybe consolidating with another school in Pike County is Phelps and that is doubtful IMO because they are so far away from any other high school...the obivious schools would be Belfry or East Ridge but that would be a long drive to either school. The current setup in Pike County is pretty good. East Ridge, Pike Central, and Shelby Valley are all very nice schools and all have good athletic facilities. Belfry's new school and athletic facilities are awesome and I feel Pikeville is a very nice school with good athletic facilities, esp. for a small city school.

I believe that Allen Central cosolidated in 1973. The four schools on the wall are the one's that came together.Allen Central,South Floyd and Betsy Layne are just a little down the road before consolidation. No pun intended VV.

I don't see any more schools in Pike County combining because now they are so widespread. It was ideal for Feds Creek, Elkhorn, and Millard to combine. All three were pretty small schools and by combining them, they have made a great school. We now have a bigger facility, better athletic programs, and an oppurtunity to meet more people, have better classes, better labs, and etc. Phelps is something like an hour's drive from East Ridge sooo I seriously doubt that they will consolidate with anyone.. I like the setup and think that the 3 schools you named have awesome set ups. The schools, surroundings, and everything are in good shape. They are multi million dollar schools. Belfry got a new school and had millions spent on it so I mean, of course that is extremely nice as well. Pikeville's school is still in good shape, it is in a good central location for the city, they had a great field, and keep producing amazing athletes and academic students.

No pun intended VV.it wont be long and when it does happen hopefully the students wont act like retards and fight with each other. if they come together quick then the sports programs will flourish and be tough to beat.

In Bell County, Henderson Settlement High School closed and those students went to Bell High about 1976-1977 school year, I think. Then, when they built the new Bell County High on Log Mountain in 1984, they consolidated Lone Jack and Bell High so now there is only one county high school. The colors of the old Bell High were maroon and white, but the new school took Lone Jack's colors of blue and white and kept the bobcats mascot.
