This kid is extremely talented, and I can't wait to see him suit up in the Blue & Orange.

I sure hope everything works out for this young man. He would definitely be a welcomed addition to the Hawks. I wonder if the Hawks will be able to provide enough powder for their cannon if every one stays healthy.

The young man is a very talented RB. Let us hope that everything works out for the best for him in 2011.

Think the Mods should change the title to Senior Highlights. No way Smith gets eligible for a 5th year.

Why would they do that, IMO there is noway that Smith isnt eligible . He didnt get his diploma, and he didnt even walk, and receive a note saying you need summer school, he is in fact a junior in high school.

How he is a junior? He was listed on Valley's roster this season as a senior and on Iroqouis' roster a year before as a junior. The only way he should get an extra year of High School is if he doesn't have the credits to pass, but he shouldn't get another year of football for that? Maybe there's part of this story we don't know...

Tim wasnt on the team at Iroquois as a junior, he wasnt even in school, He played his soph year at Iroquois, then was out of school and then came to valley as a senior hopeful, but was technacially a junior.
He is a junior at Pike Central, He is going to be ruled by the KHSAA to be eligable, and will be a senior next football season.
Here is the scout.com profile, he is listed as a senior to be.

So let me get this straight:
1. Freshman Year
2. Played Sophomore Year (Sophomore Academically)
3. Junior Year No School
4. Senior Year Eligibility wise Played at Shelby Valley (Junior Academically)
5. Senior Year Academically (Already used 4 years of athletic eligibility)
From what is stated there, it is like Ramey at SV's case in basketball and he was not ruled eligible to play. And if what is listed is correct, he should not be ruled eligible to compete in KHSAA athletics this season.

Good post; it makes a lot of sense.
Let's let the KHSAA make the rulings on players; most of us do not know all the facts.
Why do we not just get ready for August to roll around and start the season on the field.
Good luck to all, a Sheldon Clark supporter.

Why is PC always on the verge of rules violations? From picking up kids out of the county and now they are going to play a 5th year senior. Lets all just redshirt a few kids as sophs. It is only a matter of time before they pay.

If he is ruled eligible it will be biggest joke in KHSAA history. I don't understand how it's not fishy enough that he was shipped in from Louisville to live with a coach and play.
Then again Pike Central is becoming famous for these antics.
Let him play. It will only be a matter of time before they fall apart. Too many egos spoils the bunch.

Doesn't matter what Scout has him listed as the KHSAA had him listed as a SR this past season on the official roster

Good luck on the season Tim, except of course when you play P'burg. Want to see the best on the field for each team. Should be an exciting game.

So much inconsistency with the KHSAA. But, each kid has different circumstances. I have been told there is an obscure rule about being homeless that allows a kid an additional year of eligiblity. Does anyone know anything about it?
05-27-2011, 03:44 PM
The way I understand the rule is that once you enroll in high school you have 4 years to play athletics. I don't know any of the facts but from what I can see I don't think they will let him play. Can someone fill me in on more about this story and why do you think he should/will be granted a 5th year?

I got to talking with a friend who told me that Tim Smith even has an album on facebook called "Senior Year SVHS". If that's not an indicator then I don't know what is.
And Bylaw 4 above clearly states that you have 4 years of athletic eligibility once you have entered grade 9.
I think its pretty clear.

Dear Concerned and Afraid Fans,
I love you all. Plain and simple always judging others and throwing false accusations at young men or their respected team. You all shouldn't speak of these kind of things until it is final. Unless your a member of the KHSAA don't make any final judgements.
Thanks for caring
Sincerely,
The Hawk Faithful

I see very little judging going on here. It's a debate on his eligibility and people's understanding of the KHSAA by-laws. There's no false accusations being tossed around. People are talking about how he is classified as a senior this year when his 4th consecutive year of eligibility should have been last year. Shelby Valley had a basketball player who was home-schooled for a year, and yet he was ruled ineligible because of the same rule (I believe). Personally, I wish the kid the best, he seems like a good talent. But Pikeville put up with the same kind of scrutiny for years that Pike Central is going through now.
