Covington Catholic football or basketball school?
#1
Covcath makes a great basketball hire. Apparently it was finally realized that they are a basketball school and not a football school. I think the new bball coach will elevate the basketball program well beyond what the football program is capable of.
#2
The football team has been dang good in their existence, just not the last few years.
#3
I disagree. Football will always be at the top of that school. Difference between Cov Cath and Highlands, all three of the boys sports programs are at the top. Football has struggled of late, but they are climbing their way back up. Basketball will get better. And Baseball has been a top tier program for a long time. The Colonels will be the leader in Kenton County for all three sports for years to come now.

No one mentioned Highlands, but now that you did, Highlands has more 9th region basketball titles than anyone. That includes Covcath. Covcath has recently missed playing in the 9th region tournament and has rarely won the 9th region title. That could change. In football, they've lost 18 of the last 22 against Highlands. Many of which have been slaughters. That's unlikely to change.

Maybe they should try to become a baseball school.

Covington Catholic has a pretty good athletic program. Many would say it's a football school because of the 6 state titles they've won while being in the same district as highlands. some would say its a basketball school because theyve been a top 5 team in NKY almost every year since the 50s. Either way CCH has a very good athletic program.

It's like Louisville St.X, many people including myself consider that to be a football school, even though they won 4 basketball championships, 17 cross country titles, and 47 swimming championships.

Holmes has 21 combined boys & girls regional titles, Highlands has 19 combined regional titles, and some of those are 10th region. only reason i know that is because i interviewed mike flynn last year and i had that in my notes.

I have to agree with you. Football has struggled a little lately, and they have been highlighting their other sports because of that. But, I guarantee that the CC fans can't wait to get the football program back up to speed. They always have good sports programs across the board, but I think first love is the football program.

Cov Cath has an incredible student section, or at least they did. I know it is a side-note, but it is neat.
#10
CovCath is neither a football school or a basketball school. It's a baseball school.
#11
Football, just as it is the sport of all of NKY

Holmes doesn't have 18 boys titles! I'll research it and respond with specifics when I have time.

All other sports are just for something to do until football starts.

Absolutely incredible! Probably a stupid question, but, a person has to be Catholic to attend? Or at least observe Catholic traditions during school? Right? Maybe I am far off.

No they do not, just have to come up with the tuition. You see alot of noncatholics at catholic schools across the country because of their good academic programs.

Okay. So, why would anyone that could afford the tuition and live in the area, NOT send their kids there?

In NKY we are blessed with many great schools both private and public. So the choices are plentiful

Here's the page on khsaa with all the official regional champions

http://www.khsaa.org/records/basketball/...mpions.pdf

http://www.khsaa.org/records/basketball/...mpions.pdf

quick note: Covington Holmes was previously Covington, then split up into Covington Holmes and Covington Grant. Covington Grant then integrated with Covington Holmes sometime in the 60s. So all titles that list Covington, Covington Grant, and Covington Holmes all currently belong to Covington Holmes. Covington (Taylor Mill) Scott does not fall under that.

If you want to just count "Covington Holmes" alone, they have 12 compared to "Highlands" 11 titles
#24
How much does it cost to go there?

Highlands has 12. Holmes has 12. With your logic, does Cooper get credit for Conner, Boone and Ryle titles?

That 1924 title that says Ft. Thomas is Highlands too. Ft. Thomas was known as Highlands at the time. Same school, same name, same location. Unlike your Covington titles you're claiming.
#27
Actually Covcath is probably best known as a "cheering section" school.

Wideleft01 Wrote:That 1924 title that says Ft. Thomas is Highlands too. Ft. Thomas was known as Highlands at the time. Same school, same name, same location. Unlike your Covington titles you're claiming.

Nope, its almost like your Ft. Thomas High School situation. Covington and Covington Holmes were always the same school, it just changed its name by adding Holmes to the end of it after the Holmes family donated their mansion to Covington High School. Holmes and Grant were different schools AFTER the black students at Holmes were moved to Grant due to segregation. The black students were then PUT BACK into Holmes when de-segregation occured.

Not even close to the Cooper, Ryle, Boone County thing your referring to. That was all due to over-crowding

LWC Wrote:Okay. So, why would anyone that could afford the tuition and live in the area, NOT send their kids there?

You have some very good private academic schools in NKY (St Henry, Cov Cath, ND, Cov Latin, Villa Madonna), and two excellent public academic schools (Highlands and Beechwood). The two public schools mentioned are at the top in KY every year. Why parents would send their kids to any other school than these, I have to question. If you can not afford the tuition to the private schools, they will work with you on ways to pay it off. And if you do not live in the district of the two public schools, move to the area; you have to do what it takes to give your kids the best education possible.

LWC Wrote:Or at least observe Catholic traditions during school?

They have to observe some Catholic traditions during school, but it's nothing extreme. Things like attending the all-school mass. They do not have to participate, and the school will respect the student's religious traditions as well. As long as both sides are respectful to the other faith, there are usually no problems
