I think that Harlan's getting jersey's only. I know money is tight everywhere but sheesh, the field maintenance crew has to use thier own money to cut the grass and mark the field. The crazy thing is,and don't get me wrong I love the band, but, the concession money goes to the band and the gate money goes to the athletic boosters mainly. Not the football boosters. Only a small portion goes to the football team. The football boosters are having to work like mad doing fund raisers so the boys can go to camp this year. We're not real sure we're going to be able to come up with the money to send them though. Turns out that a lot of the money goes for things like chiors, band and trips for other school organizations. It seems as though the school board is not really interested in pushing athletics. I would love to see those boys get brand new uniforms, cause to me,there's nothing like wearing that green on Friday nights. Keep your heads up guy's. we'll keep fighting for ya!

I would love for Belfry to have the exact same look jerseys, except Nike. I still want plain red and white, the simple, just the Nike jerseys.

i know. how is it that football boosters work like mad to raise money for team and u never see any other sport doing it .they take baseball and basketball for overnight trips and stay days at a . football goes there and back no matter how long it takes.even feeding them falls to the booster club . never far from the gate money though.

Dragonsdad, if you don't mind me asking, how much will you all need to raise for the cost of camp? I'm hearing reports off 7-10k for 3-4 day team camps at some of our college and universities across the state? Tell me this isn't the case everywhere? I LOVE CAMP AS MUCH AS ANYBODY, BUT NO CAMP IS WORTH THAT MUCH MONEY. Think of all the other things you could get with 10k.

Central Hardin will have new home jerseys next year.

The boosters at Harlan are looking at about 6 grand to send 35 players to camp at the University of the Cumberland's. I think it's a week long camp and the money covers tee shirts and room and board. I think the coaches are covered in that price as well. We just had a yardsale with donations from the booster members and the players held a carwash. I think we did about 6 or 7 hundred, which is really going to help. In July we are going to have another concert at the stadium with the Cumberland River Band. They have donated two free concerts to the team and all the boosters have to do is supply the sound system. The Cumberland River Band does music for the t.v.show "Justified". They are pretty good if you like bluegrass with a touch of rock and blues. We had a concert in the gym last month and we did ok but it was on the same day as Bristol's NASCAR race,so we could have done better. I think the concert at the stadium will put us over what we need for camp. We will probably have a couple of b-b-q's too. I would like to see new uniforms this year, but it's more likely to happen next year.

They could take them to one of the 4-H camps for about half that. Talk about them coming back tougher. No AC, No soft comfy beds.

I just found out that the camp, for Harlan, will cost,roughly,55 hundred. That includes 4 coaches and bus fuel there and back. That comes out to about to about 140 per person. If a 4-H camp can do it for 3,000 I don't see how they could make any money. I'm sure UofC's gonna make something on it. If somebody know's for sure what 4-H camp prices are,let me know I'll pass it on to the booster's club. Harlan's not going for a vacation. We don't have to have AC and Soft beds.

108 per kid and coach. 3 squares. Showers. Beds. Practice fields.

Hopkinsville is suppose to be getting new uniforms. Swapping from orange helmets to white helmets and uniforms similar to the state championship teams in the 60's. Heard they are suppose to be more old school.

I wish Belfry would get new uniforms. Something like Red with a white stripe down the side. and for away vice versa
05-07-2011, 06:21 PM
Shelby Valley got new unis just last year...Home blue & black, away white & blue. Nike dri fits.

No AC, No soft comfy beds. That bring back memories from my freshman year at a 4H camp in Dawson Springs Kentucky. And you right it do make you tougher sit in a hot room at night when its 97 degrees outside. And hearing bears and other things outside in the middle of nowhere and the cafeteria food was horrible.

A lot of teams from far South Eastern KY, including Corbin and Knox i believe, go to the 4H Camp in London. Its a good place to have a camp. Teams like Whitley use to generally go to Georgetown, but i believe Whitley has also gone to Wofford University in South Carolina once or twice. I even went to Gtown when i was in school. Its a good place to get some hard work in and see other teams while youre up there.

I personally can't see that spending 5-10K (the range of costs I've heard), for a few days of practice is really worth it? I mean, if you have a budget and booster money that rolls in like crazy, then by all means, rock it. However, if you are like most programs across the state, I just can't see how you can logically justify taking that much money to use toward 3-4 days of practice just for the sake of "getting away". IMO if you have to spend that much money for that short of time in order to "help create team unity" (just one of the reasons I hear for going to camp), then you have a helluva lot more problems on your hand than camp can even begin to fix.
I just think of all the extras that a program could put that 5-10K towards things other than camp? An added assitant coach, a set of uniforms that would last you several years (varsity, then jv, then frosh and then middle school possibly), equipment like new sets of shoulder pads/helmets etc., extra gear for the kids and coaches in terms of spirit packs/hoodies/sweats etc., a few years of having video editing systems like Hudl or Apex and the list could go on and on.
To each their own I reckon.
Camp 10-20 years ago was how it still should be; 4-6 teams staying at a location for a selected few days and you practiced in the morning, then the rest of the time was scrimmaging. Those were the days.

Scrimmaged against Middlesboro. Great camps, always made us tougher.

I heard that Rockcastle was getting some new jerseys this year at least. As far as the camp thing goes, it seems to help the team bond some when they go "away" to camp. The coaches put the nix on the cell phones so that the boys don't get to talk to the girlfriends and text all the time. They get to concentrate on how nice hot and miserable those 4-H cabins are for three or four days. My boys appreciate those dewy morning runs and agility drills in the wet grass at six a.m. before breakfast. I bought them each a pair sealskin socks for that reason to help them a little. They only have one thing to really think about and that's football. I think there was two or three that got their parents to come get them last year. If you make it through...it is a rite of passage sort of thing and you can ask the older kids and there is always a story about camp and the pride they have for making it through another year. My oldest has one more year of Shangri-la at Jabez as I call it and he says that once you make it through summer drills and camp and school starts, he knows that it is all downhill from there.

I think that camp not only gives them a chance to bond, but it gives them the oppurtunity to go up against someone other than themselves. A chance to measure themselves against new competition. I think it will be good for them. I don't think Harlan's been to camp in a few years. So,this will be a new experience for them.

Teams are allowed two scrimmages. That is all. Anything other than that will result in punishment by the KHSAA. Be careful what you insinuate on here.

Aren't there some new NFHS rules on jersey design and color which will go into effect soon, maybe some this year and become more restrictive in 2012.
