Christian County Colonels 2011 State Champions
#1
Christian County defeated Rowan County 65-63 In 2 OT's On A Buzzer Beating Shot To Win The PNC/KHSAA Sweet 16 Championship
#2
Rowan won the game before it ever made it to 2nd OT.... but I guess that's the way it goes. Congrats Christian County.

Absolutely amazingly horrible officiating for a state championship game. Townsend's "jumper" that was counted as a two was a 3. It was clear as can be on the replay. That ends the game in the first OT if the correct call is made. Then in the second OT, Townsend gets an and one on the layup and block but instead they call a charge and it fouls Townsend out? Terribly, terribly officiated game.

The 3 in the first OT was blatantly obvious... even without the replay. The charge could have went either way I guess as they always can. Sucks to see Rowan loose the game that way.

Radio analysts were pretty vocal that the shot was 100% a two pointer. I would love to see the video of it. I hate that it came down to something like that.

Does anybody have the scoring yet? It was a great game and a great run in this tournament for Rowan Co. They had a good record. It sure sounds like they would have won if the basket had counted as a 3 instead of a 2 but who knows. Maybe the refs missed one on the other team earlier. Congratulations to Christian Co. on winning the Sweet Sixteen and to Rowan Co. on a fabulous tournament.

Scotty doesn't know I've always liked you but I have to Disagree with you here he was behind the line, even the tv analysts said it should have been called a 3

There were many times that the local announcers thought CCHS got bad breaks by the refs. So maybe the game should have never went to ot by that way of thinking. The fouls were definitely very lopsided without a doubt. Couldn't tell on the three, it could have went either way. Charge was the right call, not even close. If Hickey had been there any longer, he would have taken a nap as tired as he was.

Congrats to both teams, both had great seasons and played their hearts out tonight.

Craziest 4th-2OT I've ever seen. Great game by both teams. This game was great and was officiated well, IMO. I'm unbiased and watched it all from start to finish.

Huge shot by #32 from Rowan and #3 from Christian.
#12
Heck of a game. That shot by Rowan was a 3 or it looked like it to me on the replay. But if it was counted a 3 I believe that Rowan would have went for a 2 to end the game instead of a 3 because a 2 would have tied it if the shot was counted as a 3. Congrats to Christian County on the championship and Congrats to Rowan County on a heck of a season. It was a heck of a game!!!!

I'm sorry man, I swear it wasn't my opinion or anything, I was just telling what the radio guys were saying back here on 95.5 (Pikeville). I really have now idea what the right call was, and since the media guys are sitting at a really acute angle, I would say that you probably had the better view. So I really can't say but I believe you man.

Nope. After watching the UK women play on CBS I was just listening to the game on the radio back home here. I would have loved to have watched it all unfold. I think it may go down as one of the best sweet 16 championship games ever. By the way, man I really didn't mean to make you mad or anything in that last post, it was seriously just what they were (emphatically) saying.

Go to ihigh and watch. It was 100% a 3 pointer. I don't understand how an official can miss that! the first thing you do when somebody pulls up from anywhere near the 3 point line is look down at their feet.

Here is the game winner, I know it isn't good quality but it will do lol

That is pretty amazing. I do think this brings up another issue in Kentucky high school basketball. I think that Kentucky is one of only a few states that do not have a shot clock in effect. I completely know and agree that if you have a lead, are tied, or want the last shot, etc., why not hold the ball and force pressure out and chew up time. It just seems like it should have been changed by this point.
Nothing to take away from Christian Co, but they got three chances to do that hoding the ball for a minute at the end of regulation, the first OT and yes, the game winner at the end of the second OT. What does everyone else think?

Townsend's "jumper" that was counted as a two was a 3. No doubt about it!!! It was clear as can be on the replay. Even the play-by-play folks agreed after watching the replay. That ends the game in the first OT if the correct call is made.

Here is the 3 that was ruled 2

If that is called a 3, which I thought it was, Rowan doesn't shoot a 3 in that situation, IMO. It may have worked in Rowan's favor, you never know. To say it lost the game, that is a little much.
#23
Its very close. You can see the ref whose call it is getting there late. He come to his spot as the kid is landing, not going up. But at the same time it looks like the ref from under the basket is signaling 2 as soon as it goes it. Believe it or not he has a good look at it from there. The 2 lines probably made it a little tougher.
#24
I think that is indeed a three. I THINK I see space (wood) in between the high school three point line and the tip of his foot. I think that there should have been the meeting and the point awarded.

Clearly a 3. Rowan got hosed out of a state championship. Its horrible to see a bunch of men in stripes take away something this kids deserve. Pathetic.
#26
I agree it was a 3, but also agree with an earlier post that that did not "cost" them the game. There is no guarantee they go for a 3 again had the first been counted correctly. Definitely affected the outcome of the game, but to say that it cost them the game is assuming we know what would have happened that next time down the court...

And I also agree with an earlier poster that I too think it is time to implement a shot clock... The days of stall ball should be over. It is a great strategy with no clock but at the same time I think it takes away a lot from the game. Time to get with the times...

I say 45 second shot clock.

Thank you!! I really would love to see this implemented this summer. Does anyone know if this is something that may happen soon?

This is why you dont televise a high school basketball game if your the khsaa.
It burnt em this year, however, that wasnt the only thing that lost the game for Rowan as they had a whole other overtime to get it in gear.
With that said, good game by both teams and Christian played well enough to deserve the win.
#30
Congrats to both teams!!!

One of the best, if not the best games I've ever listened to.

Hickey for Mr. Basketball!
